  • Kids who grew up in the 80s, like me, couldn’t get enough of these transformer toys. Robots that could transform into cars, planes and big semi trucks. What young boy didn’t want this under the Christmas tree. Transformers - along with G.I. Joe - was one of the best selling toys of the 80s in America. But it didn’t start in America, and these toys weren’t always known as transformers. Take we take a look at the history of transformers from 1980 - 1984.

    I find it funny that they say there is no blue Bluestreak. But, there is a blue Bluestreak in the Diaclone commercial. Maybe it was prototype, but, it does exist.

    Nice video! I think it's worth noting that the toys weren't all from Diaclone. Many Microchange figures made up the line as well.

      Thank you so much! I appreciate it. I went back and forth on if I should mention microchange or not. I had it in my original script but took it out because it felt confusing to me. I finally decided since diaclone was a spin off of microchange I'll just go with that. But that may not have been the right choice since both lines make up the transformers. I'm glad you mention it here because that is true. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to write 🙂.

    i saw Jet Fire one time at a mall toy store . was not able to buy it . probly cause it was too costly . i was into voltron i had every lion except the black lion. my next door neighbor had the entire Voltron lion set as well as Devistator . He had pretty much every transformer . it was insane how many toys he had.

      Funny! I only had the black lion and none of the others. My brother had the blue lion but we could never buy the entire set.

    Did they change the name from buzzsaw to lazerbeak once the show came out?

    • @theretroshow
      @theretroshow  Год назад

      That's a good question. I think Buzzsaw and Lazerbeak are 2 different cassettes. But I'm not 100% sure. When I was doing my research I pulled some information from this website - which has both listed. Lazerbeak is listed as a cassette and Buzzsaw listed under Soundwave. So they could be the same? I wish I knew for sure. tfwiki.net/wiki/The_Transformers_(toyline)#1984

    They toys always Sucked because they couldn't
    Move ... & most of them were too small.. G.I Joes
    Always had the best toys with the most movement
    Probably still today

      That was what the 82 release of G.I. Joe was so good with! I loved how they moved too. True transformers didn’t always move as well.

    There was a story behind diaclone just like there was behind microman which you omitted to mention, this was a nice basic history but you missed a hell of a lot, you could have gone back to Hero Joe as a Barrie competitor getting rebranded as action man in the uk and takara creating henshin cyborg then the big scale down in the 70’s so Hero Joe becomes the Star Wars scale GI Joe which becomes action force in the uk and Takara scaling down Henshin Cyborg to become Microman, Takara then develop Diaclone alongside Microman and Diaclone then move onto Car Robo for the Diaclone team and Jet Robo and for their enemies the Waruder they get Dino Robo and Insect Robo, Microman gets imported back to the US as Micronauts and then develops the Microchange sub line which is where Megatron and Soundwave come from and the Microchange penny racer style cars become the mini bots I I’ll stop there.

      The videos I'm doing now are really basic, mainly because of the time it takes to put them together, this is a busy time for me in my main job. My initial plan was to do quick histories of 80s toys. Transformers and G.I. Joe is what people have been coming to see. As the channel grows I'll probably be able to get more in depth. The one big thing I do regret adding on this video is the microman piece. I had it in the script and took it out to keep it as basic and simple as possible. I think I could have still kept it simple with that piece.

      Dude, it's a five-minute video, not a documentary.
