- Attorney Bonnie Smith said in a press conference Sunday that eight corrections officers were prevented from guarding or even interacting with Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer charged in George Floyd's death. The jail said corrections staff immediately expressed concerns and the decision was reversed within 45 minutes. CBSN Minnesota has the details.

Julius Newman I have never been in jail but communities protect their own, and this is a norm. People are not always divided by race like the media try to inspire. Police are the community, for instance. Also I know many black people who don’t belong to a “classic black community”.

High profile inmates are placed in protective custody. It's the facilities way of protecting themselves. Very doubtful that he had any say as to any black CO's who were removed from his control. If that did occur, then yes, there is an administrative bias favoring Chauvin. Firing anyone will not change a system that favors white men, particularly white cops.
If only "George Floyd" had gotten this type of respect & protection.
Don't forget he was far far from perfect, a criminal that had an unfair and sad end, just as so many none criminal americans by the hands of police, so be real and do not forget that.

That is to much like right it will not happen.
This is commonplace in jails and prisons where it is not unusual for cell blocks to be segregated and for CO's to be assigned only to cell blocks that have inmates that share their racial heritage. It's probably more common in traditionally racist states but I am aware of this happening in at least one New England state less than ten years ago where I was a literacy volunteer. I had wondered why I hadn't seen any African American inmates and was told that I would only be teaching White inmates how to read as the Black inmates had their own teacher. At least that would mean they had a better student teacher ratio but that teacher also did not have as good a set of credentials as I had. So in that sense the African American inmates might not have gotten the same quality of teaching as the White inmates. I had 12 in my class and the African American teacher had 4. I could have taught them all. That was around 2012. The inmates didn't complain so I figured it wasn't any of my business.

I wish they would release the full bodycam footage, but from this new article, with partial transcripts of the 911 call, and partial transcripts of body cam audio, and new video seems to show Floyd resisting arrest, this link to a channel of an ex cop helping to decipher the article and what it may mean. This is the professionalism Derick Chauvin should've shown when he sat all of his entire weight on George Floyd's kneck with his knee for 10 long minutes. See this is the samething the uproar from the Asian community is talking about racial injustices and insensitiveess. This is without a shadow of doubt emotionally traumatizing. Yes. All 8 officers should be compensated at that as well as removing the leadership from however higher up they must go and revamp that whole entire department and have training sessions periodically on a variety of all race and culture on how to get along and be mindful and sensitive to what you say and how you behave as a professional doing service to and for your community. There should be trainings on proper mannerisms and courteous to each other and respect as well as the communities you took an oath to promise and protect.
This case is examined thoroughly and those officers showed NO Leadership whatsoever when sitting on Mr. Floyd's and digging into his neck. It's simple and clear. Becausr if the color of the other officers skin they could not even go near him just WOW. Those officers spoke up and I would to. Got dammit where is leadership while wearing a uniform.

Cells get cleaned by other inmates called trustees .. fkd up how they had the black c.o's to clean

I call BS! If Lyndon was sincere and was actually concerned that the corrections officers may have suffered trauma from recent events, and that dealing with Chavin might further those traumas, he would have talked with the corrections officers for their input.
This shows that the Minneapolis police department is rife with racism. No wonder Chauvin had a history of misbehavior. It's not only tolerated, it's encouraged.
How does it prove racism? The media and Democrats have racialized the killing when no racial motive was proven...black people have been led to believe or chosen to believe that Chauvin deliberately killed a theft/fraud suspect with a criminal record while high on drugs due to racism, so it is reasonable that he is protected from those who may be influenced by the media/political/judicial distortion of the case.
