As soon as I heard it, I knew what you had fired up. This is same propulsion system as Germany used for their buzz bombs. A pulse combustion engine. I worked for a company that manufactured a product based on this principle. It was studied by a Canadian scientist, Kitchener, during WWII. Kitchener realized that this system produced amazing amounts of heat, and designed boilers based on the principle. They were manufactured by Hydrotherm Corporation in NJ, a division of Penn Central.
That looks like a load of fun but I’d be shitting myself having the gas next to the exhaust due to it looking like it’s hotter than the sun lol great vid
I'm guessing the camera sensor is blowing out the highlights. If it were accurate, according to the kelvin color temperature chart, that would be 5000-6000 degrees celsius (which it can't be because what metal can withstand that heat, right?). So I'm guessing we'd need a camera sensor with more dynamic range to guess the temp - or does anyone know the temp those things get up to?
The camera can lie a bit but the metal color seemed like it was close to the melting point of steel. Its probably the camera lying a bit, but I'd be very worried about getting the thing just explode on my back. But he probably knows better. Robert I must say that I’m very impressed with your ambition, technical knowledge, and courage! 🤗 Would you like to take your jet engines to the NEXT LEVEL? My dad, Charles Dahle, was an expert on jet propulsion and he passed on some of his knowledge to me. Your current setup wastes a LOT of energy as you know. You need to turn this wasted energy into thrust. May I suggest that you build what I would call a “steam afterburner.” (Just a name it doesn’t really burn anything) First step is to completely enclose a jet engine with a stainless steel “steam jacket.” Similar to a water jacket on an internal combustion engine, but it houses steam instead. This housing is a simple shell with a “donut” shaped opening at the nozzle. I suggest a 1/4” gap to start with. I would add several rows of fuel injector nozzles. Each row would be activated by an electrical solenoid and of course you are not injecting fuel, but water. Water expands 1600 times when flashed to steam! 😳 When a spray of water hits your engine, that is glowing cherry red, it will flash to steam instantly and give you a tremendous boost in thrust. 😬 There is a LOT of power in steam! Have you ever noticed that a steam locomotive did not have a transmission. It doesn’t need one!!! Anyway, certain precautions HAVE to be made! I suggest using some pressure relief valves found on an air compressor just to be sure that you don’t have a steam explosion. 😬Also your welds have to be flawless! A tiny invisible jet of high pressure steam can penetrate your body before you can say, “I’m a dead man!” 💀 I suggest that you install a piece of armor plate with some sort of high temperature ceramic between your engine and the back of your seat just in case a weld develops a pin hole leak. You should also encourage bystanders not to get too close. High pressure steam is invisible and VERY dangerous! Navy personnel on nuclear submarines use broom handles to check for steam leaks. If the end of the broom handle falls to the floor, they know that they have an invisible steam leak. 😳 By using several rows of injectors activated by solenoids you can increase your speed gradually with each flip of a switch. You don’t want break the land speed record on your first test drive. It probably wouldn’t be that dramatic, but you never know for sure. It pays to be careful! I knew a fellow who owned a Yamaha dealership. He was testing a brand new turbocharged bike. He was cruising along at 80 mph and thought to himself, “This thing runs like crap!” Then he noticed that the choke was on, so he pushed in the choke and did a wheelie stand at 80 mph!😲 Fortunately he was coordinated enough to maintain control and lived to tell the story. Anyway, it always pays to be careful! My inspiration for this idea came from an article about Bruce Crower’s Six-Stroke Engine. He replaced the cooling system on an engine by injecting water directly into the cylinders after the engine reached operating temperature. The water flashed to steam and generated power. He increased the thermal efficiency of the engine and eliminated the weight of a cooling system. This is an AMAZING idea! He predicted that it would almost double the fuel economy of an engine. I suggest you do an Internet search on “Bruce Crower’s Six-Stroke Engine.” Very interesting! I would be very interested to see you try this steam afterburner idea. I have too many projects to try it myself. I think the FUN potential on this idea is pretty high! 🤔 Good luck! Be safe! 🤗 Don’t get killed!

I just realized the military's "chinese mortar" field water heaters are very VERY loosely based on this design! 🤣
Same here. The distinctive "growl" it makes left no doubt in my mind what he'd just lit off.
How fast You figure that can go?
That looks like a load of fun but I’d be shitting myself having the gas next to the exhaust due to it looking like it’s hotter than the sun lol great vid
I'd prefer to see some sort of heat shield between them!
Ah that heat make propane put out better
My thoughts exactly 🤣
I'm guessing the camera sensor is blowing out the highlights. If it were accurate, according to the kelvin color temperature chart, that would be 5000-6000 degrees celsius (which it can't be because what metal can withstand that heat, right?). So I'm guessing we'd need a camera sensor with more dynamic range to guess the temp - or does anyone know the temp those things get up to?
The camera can lie a bit but the metal color seemed like it was close to the melting point of steel. Its probably the camera lying a bit, but I'd be very worried about getting the thing just explode on my back. But he probably knows better.
Yeah It seems its after sunset so the colors seem much more bright than they actually are.

@Joshua Westop Your mom?
This man did NOT look death in the eye doing this, he made death look into his eyes.
May I suggest that you build what I would call a “steam afterburner.” (Just a name it doesn’t really burn anything)
First step is to completely enclose a jet engine with a stainless steel “steam jacket.” Similar to a water jacket on an internal combustion engine, but it houses steam instead.
There is a LOT of power in steam!
By using several rows of injectors activated by solenoids you can increase your speed gradually with each flip of a switch.
