To minimize the distance the micro will travel, you can skip the qickdraw and just clip it directly to a bolt (with a locker ideally). Cuts that distance from 18” to say like 6”. At a cost of some rope drag, but the pulley helps reduce that, and it hasn’t felt so bad to me. I (unfortunately) had my second fall in this scenario. It held, rope came tight and pulled me a little but not enough to pull me off my position. No one was hurt. If on gear, different story, but I still try to minimizes the length as much as possible. Clipping the cam thumb loop, or the sling, ideally not extending w alpine draws. For that, I might try your system out. Cheers!
@@BeauWilliams-Orser Yep. I’ve done that when/where it makes sense. Maybe I’ll try to do it more frequently. I used this technique last night and found it was helpful when I needed a bit more slack to clip due to follower being in the middle of a slow spot. So it may be more helpful than I originally thought…? Obviously it’s overkill and nuanced. Glad you didn’t get pulled off when your follower fell.
