Thank you! Especially for the rankings part. I feel that a lot of people of color don't consider that because for many of us, just getting into a law school is a major achievement. We don't discuss how your choice of law school can shape your career prospects and unfortunately, close some doors.
I agree. It's just painful to say because a lot these rankings/"elite" institutions are historically rooted in classism and racism, but we want people to have all the information and then make an informed decision. Thanks for watching! --Angel
Thank you guys so much for all the good advice in this video (this is like my 7th time watching this one). In the video you guys mentioned negotiating financial aid. Would you guys consider doing a video giving some pro tips on how to go about that process? Also with the current public health situation(COVID-19), how would you guys recommend deciding between schools without having the usual option to attend admitted student weekends?
I don't know why I'm watching like a dozen of your videos. I'm a creative artist from Canada and I'm not going to be a lawyer LOL but I guess it is like being a fly on the wall :) I am obsessed with New York. I love it but I have never been. I was going to travel there for the first time this fall but then Covid happened. My dream is to be a songwriter, but I live in the Canadian prairies and I don't even know how that would work, but I've always wanted to live in New York. My husband and I own a physiotherapy clinic though and it looks like I wont be able to move anywhere interesting. :(
Hey Angel and Sam! Love your videos and hope you all are having a great summer. I was wondering if you two could do a video about scholarship/Fiancial aid? (If it's not too personal or private of course)
Can yall make a video on GPA and LSAT scores?? And what were your scores?? Is there any way I can PM yall? I'm a junior with a 3.7 with goals of getting into Harvard. Would like to know my chances.
Thanks for the honesty and as a black girl I would like to hear from you. Is Columbia Law the gateway to legal practice? Considering we are Black into big law. Xxx
I recommend the free Khan Academy LSAT course. There is also a guy who teaches LSAT strategies on youtube. His channel is called the LSAT Trainer. Good luck!
How early on would you suggest starting the negotiation process with law schools? Obviously after you've received financial aid packages, but is it bad to wait until March? Should you start closer to the new year?
I started when I heard back from about a third of the schools that I applied to. That's when I really began to get a good picture of what I was looking at/ could expect. For some that can be in January/ February, for others that can be in March/ April. - Sam
I don't know too much about the school, but there are a number of graduates from U Penn who work at my law firm, so it's possible to break into the NY market.
I would like your opinion please. I am older. I will get a free ride to any of the University of California law schools. I would prefer UCLA or Berkeley. I think I may have a chance to get into Harvard or University of Virginia. If I go to Harvard it will likely cost around $250,000 + at my age I do not know how important it is where I go to Law School, the education is the most important. I would appreciate your thoughts please. I live in the Los Angeles area and do not believe I will move out of the area.
Hi, we discuss this exact scenario in the following video: Sam turned down a full scholarship???? | Affording law school & living in NY ruclips.net/video/brecDM6B6C0/видео.html
I don’t have admitted students weekend 😭 what about ranking vs. region? I personally just looked at high ranked law firms on linkedin and the school name and found former students working there to pick my school but it’s lower ranked than another school in a close state!! 😖
It really depends where you plan to practice after law school. In many places, the employers would rather hire someone from the local law schools instead of someone who went to a better-ranked law school from another state. Good luck!

This is a great idea! We've touched on it briefly but we havent went into depth. We'll consider it for upcoming videos!

Hi, we don't release our personal scores, application materials, or law school notes. And yes you can message us on instragram! @angelandsamllp
Love this!!! Great advice

Yes, Columbia law students often get jobs at big law firms. Also, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, NYU. Best wishes!
@@aalegalfocus thank you 🙏🏾
Really candid advice
I knoooow the LSAT was many many years ago, but can you please share some application/LSAT resources as well as study schedules?? Love your content

Are all schools open to negotiating scholarships and if not, would asking a school to reconsider who isn’t open to negotiation risky?

@@Sistersinlaw Thanks so much for your input!!
What was your guys GPA/LSAT?
What's your thoughts on U Penn? I would want to work in the Boston, NYC, or DC area.

Why would rather go to Upenn than to Columbia? Tough decision I guess
Penn places phenomenally in DC and NY. It’s an Ivy so it’s probably favored over BU and BC in Boston but I could be wrong. Shouldn’t be a problem.
Hi, I'm a JRF Scholar attending Manhattan College in NYC and I'm planning on pursuing a Law degree (hopefully at an NYC LS). Let's Connect!
Hey jrf fam! And yess, reach out anytime! --Angel
