For recharging power I rely on 3 sources that have everyday usefulness. In my car I always have a modern small Jump Starter battery pack that also has usb ports to charge other devices. A real life saver when your vehicle battery dies or when someone else needs a jump. In addition to the Jump Starter, I also have a rechargable tire inflator which has usb ports to recharge other devices. I once got a slow leak in my tire on a deserted dirt road in the Okefenokee swamp area. I had to stop about every 10 miles of a 55 mile drive back to town to refill the tire, but it got me there. I also carry in my camera bag a smallish 1500 mAh powerbank with folding solar panels. It is small enough to fit in a big cargo pants pocket. Plus, I always have an extended battery case on my phone. It can keep my phone powered for a week, and it makes the phone a lot more "holdable".
Thanks for the tips
I keep my gear bag on the floor of the passenger side and my camera on the passenger seat when driving. I never want to miss an opportunity but I do find myself reaching out and hanging on to it in the tight turns, rough roads and quick braking situations. I’ve never really thought twice about how it could become damaged or worse, an airborne weapon in a crash. I will definitely be re-thinking my vehicle set up. Thanks Scott!
Very true. I do at times keep the camera in passenger seat, but only if im working a road or something like that. Any other time they go in the cases
I’ve been waiting for this video, thank you so much.
👍
The Peli Case range of products are fantastic. If its good enough for most of the worlds military & special force teams then its certainly going to protect valuable photography gear while being transported. I’ve used Peli in various applications for many years.👌 another great content video Scott.
Thanks
Ive rolled the exact same way for quite a few years now.. I have a pelican air 1615, a pelican air 1506, a nanuk 935. All with hood organizers and trekpak or my diy divider system just like trekpak... And I cable lock them to my frame in the back of the 4runner. I then use a framed hunting pack with a rear/back entry with divider insert in it for out in the feild. After 35 yrs of photography, I've found this to be the all around best route for me. It's crazy to see someone else with an almost identical set up.
Very nice setup. Ive got a few more cases also 1506, couple drone custom cases.etc. Just depends on load out I need.
would love to see your winters, cold outdoor to warm indoor setup for your camera gear. Thanks

I love my Pelican cases for camera gear! Thanks for the great info!
Thanks for watching!
I’ve recently purchased the R5 ii with no backup batteries available so I purchased 2 power packs. Man were they a life saver. Cheaper than batteries and recharge by plugging into the camera with a type c cable.
👍
Great video!! Thanks for sharing your rig setup!!
Thanks for watching!
My setup is very similar, with a 1650 Pelican case. I use ABUS locks (which are hardened, and one of the most difficult locks to pick), and ABUS hardened safety chains with my case. If a thief had the largest bolt cutters, it would take them a long time to cut through the locks, and the links of the safety chain.
👍
I ALWAYS keep my camera on the passenger seat secured with the seatbelt around the lense foot and in cold weather don’t use the heater or warm weather the air conditions as this will cause condensation on the lense until it is stabilized
👍
Great information. Thanks. Any thoughts on having the camera in the front seat safely for those quick shots out the window?
If I can keep it from tumbling into the floorboard etc, yes. If im just working a road, then ill have it at hand in the passenger seat.
I like to have the gear set up to go also and for years was using the Lenscoat 4 x expandable bag. It was ok but the sides were so flimsy and it didn't provide any padding or support. So I started searching around and after a month I found a bag that I can have my Canon RF600 F4 and 1.4TC with R3 and Zemlin Photo travel hood all together in, it's a Unistellar telescope backpack.
When I do flyaway trips I use it as one of my checked bags and put my tripod and rain gear in it and when I get to my destination put the camera in it and keep it behind the passenger seat on the floor so I can grab it from the driver seat quickly and shoot from the car if needed.
👍
Great review.. Pelican Air 1615 Case with Trekpack Dividers good call. I will look to buy during Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals. Maybe put a link to this so you can get money back.. Thanks Again..
I will add one to the video description
Great security, but when I travel I just put the camera strap over my headrest just like it’s on my neck. Makes for really fast grab and go. Box is great for security!
👍
That's a great idea! Thanks!
Glad you like it!
Thanks Scott!!
The Pelican 1615, can it fit a Canon R5mii - EF600mm F4 mark2 with controlring and the lenscap up + the Canon R5 - RF200_800mm + lenscap up! at the sametime?
Regards RJS
yes
Although I get the desire to have the rig fully assembled, I would like to share a cautionary tale. I was travelling with my Sony FS5 fully assembled in the Yukon. Most roads in the Yukon are fairly rough, and about half way through my trip I discovered that the lens had separated from the body! The rig was sitting on the front passenger seat of my truck when this happened. I was lucky that it was still in warranty and got it repaired for free, but it was useless for the rest of the trip.
Thanks for the info. That's the whole reason for the case, to keep it secure. But in a long or very rough trip, I do separate the rigs.
@@WILDALASKA Thanks, and I'm glad to see that you are doing well these days. Keep the faith brother.
Great tips! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Nice, but close to 600 bucks (with the divider system) - ouch!
Yes pelican cases are not cheap, but having 10-30k in gear protected is worth that peace of mind.
Great tips! My car always ends up in a mess with all the gear...
You and me both! 😂
Great info. Thx for sharing. Which rubber pants do you use? thx.
Helly Hanson and Grudens
@@WILDALASKA thx Scott !
I was hoping to see how you might set up 600mm lenses, but all good. Smaller lenses will go well in that case. Thanks
So the 500mm f4 , lens hood, and body all together fits in the case. First thing I do with these big primes is swap out the lens hood for a Zemlin Lens hood that's much shorter which helps fit in bags or cases as has a awesome lens cap for them also that locks in.
@@WILDALASKA sound like a good ideas, thanks
I like your setup I have a Jackery unit with the solar charger. I've been using soft case backpacks for my cameras and lenses my pro master backpack is locking has wheels for rolling and will hold two of my cameras and lenses attached with the lens hoods turned backwards. My 55- 300 mm 4.5 - 5.6 and my 150 - 450 mm lens
My travel setup is 3 lenses my 16-50 mm 2.8 , 55 -300 mm 4.5 - 5.6 and my 150 - 450 all three lenses are weather sealed as well as my camera bodies for incidental weather
👍
11:50 after you’ve used your rubber boots and pants in the field, where do you store them as they’d mess up the car with mud/slush? Thanks
Usually wipe them down. What's left will get caught by the back mats in the bronco. They have the lip like the floorboard mats. Then I just wash the mats down every couple weeks or as needed.
Similar to what I use. I have three cases, the 1485, the 1535, and the 1615...
I have the 1485 also. At times it goes in the Tenba slot in the Bronco. Just depends on what I need. I like there Tenba as it doubles for flights and getting in and out of the vehicle as its a shoulder bag. Thanks for watching.
What is the name of the smaller bag and where can i find one? Ty
I think he is referring to a Tenba cinema bag . They com in 3 sizes. He has the 21 inch model. Hope this helps.
The one on the left is a Tenba Cineluxe 21
any update about nikon z6 III?
Update?
Smash & grab? In Alaska!!!
Those Dang bears ☝️ 🤭
✌️🤙
Yeah. Luckily they can't use bolt cutters 🤪😂
I lay my 600 with camera attached on the passenger seat and pull it forward enough that the hood is almost touching the glove compartment. In a hard brake, the hood pushes gently against the plastic glove compartment and is stuck in place. My shorter zoom is under my arm on the center console. In a bad accident, well...I have insurance.
👍
I just let my gear run shotgun beside me so I don’t miss a shot lol
😮 I do the same when im on a short run along a road or something like that, but once it gets rough or longer runs, its in the case
