- This week JC and I made the long trip from the coast back out to the grawin opal fields. Unfortunately Noah was busy house sitting for his parents and was unable to make it out with us.
Nevertheless JC and I had a fantastic time mining. I made it to the claim a couple of days early got things set up and did a little bit of digging, JC shortly rolled into town in his new/old Holden rodeo (Bundaberg rum edition) and we got to work.
Our mission this trip was to connect up a new shaft Rod and Lez from the bushmen had put down for us.
It was a long hard few days of digging but we managed to break through and Jc had a lot of fun picking his way through into the mine and squeezing through a tight hole!
With that accomplished we spent some time digging for gems and managed to score a few kgs of material the majority of which rod is still sorting through but we estimate around 6-10k worth of opals! All in all a fantastic haul!

You guys could just film your day-to-day operations and it would drastically increasing your RUclips Revenue. A lot of people watch just to see you guys and what you're up to.
One day they will realize there’s more money to be made filming the journey for treasure than the actual treasure. Sooo much room for more content. I’d love to see the process of cleaning these up. Also, low grade Opal and chips are begging for a Patreon community with ‘free’ giveaways. At $5-$15 each member adds up to real quick, like a steady paycheck. If I lived in Australia, I’d come negotiate a deal with these guys to do their social media for cut.
If only we had the time! Mining comes first RUclips videos I do for fun when I can find the spare time!

Put your cam(s) in place, just record 8 hours of digging and finding opals, adjust camera position at times, upload it raw (unedited) to RUclips.
This would offer a nice 8 hour day insight into your world. Try it and see the results for this minimal effort.

I love that JC came back to opal mining with the Young Guns Team. I was afraid he wasn’t going to come back there for a minute. I am also glad that he found some good opal to keep him wanting to mine for more opal to support his family.

When opal hunters and Aussie gold hunters first kicked off I was hooked,I honestly used to have vivid,so real dreams of finding big,full color spectrum gem black opal stones and metal detecting big gold nuggies😂😂

Been watching you blokes for yonks now and watching all your ups and downs. I remember when you were just starting out and learning all the tricks of the trade. You have come a long way boys and your confidence levels are way high. Keep slogging at it and you’ll get there eventually. I have all the confidence in the world in yous.

Any tips on public places to search through tailings? I’ve watched all of the Opal Hunters show and been so keen to come up and will be at the end of next week. I don’t care if it’s potch, it would still be exciting for me 😂 thanks fellas.

Could anyone explain why they couldn't both work in the shaft before they connected the second drill hole??
I can explain that hahah.
Basically if for some reason the hoist bucket gets stuck or malfunctions that’s your only access hole.
Meaning you’re trapped underground with no reception. The hoist on occasion will get stuck up the top and can come rocketing back down if that hits you when your climbing back up, your gone. If the drive belts slip if or the cable gets tangled up or somthing else and the bucket gets stuck half way up the shaft, no way around it and if it lets go then again crushed.

as I've seen in comments, if you just had chest or helmet mounted go pro recording, either voiced or not voiced, a lot of people would watch. doesn't even have to be edited. i know a small streamer, whom posts stream vods, its about gaming, But basically the same concept. posting unedited/raw footage, i would watch them too, over time!!
If only, the videos we have tried that on get very little views and overall RUclips then shows our channel to less people.
@@younggunsopalhunters you could have a second channel, that u can just post raw vods on, won’t ruin ur main channel or demographic.
Just set it and forget it, takes up less time, and eventually it will grab more views or watch time, also second income.
@@forrestking1760 I guess that might be worth a shot. Next time I head out I’ll check a pov helmets GoPro on and just record till the battery dies. The biggest problem is it’s just super repetitive, dig shift the dirt dig shift dirt ect. Even if we find anything the GoPro is no good at capturing the opal you’d just see somthing in hand but wouldn’t be able to make out really what it is or see the colour like you do on these videos where we use a proper camera with a macro lense for all the close ups. Would that be somthing you’d still watch ?
@@younggunsopalhunters of course, also, that will make it more real. Where the viewers will actually see you working! Which will make the audience more community tight. Also I trust you guys, and most of us do. So no macro lenses needed, ofc if it’s super coloured or a 10,000 piece, you can also edit the end, and show some pictures. After u get back, or don’t haha 🤣

Hello. At I think 12:34 when you shine the black light around. There is a darker green tint to that bit.
Is it just different minerals that make it a different color?
Sometimes the fluorescence can have a bit of a green tinge, just the wavelengths I think, but yes the different minerals in the ground can all produce different colours under a black light, some are crazy different - check rubys out under a black light !

This may be a stupid question but why don't you excavate with black light only on? Is it too disorienting or would it not help
I mean when you were excavating by hand off the ceiling not the tunnels
Yeah it’s better to see with full lights on, we have done it before but the UV lights do affect your eyes after long exposure so we try to minimise it, we will go over a pile after we dig it and pick anything out we missed
