Ciao 👋 .. I use a double line (traditional OLD school) method .. I noticed U use 1 line .. unlike me .. I recently purchased a foot ascender (right foot) .. so .. I assume I purchased in this item ( thinking it would B of use for my application .. I use foot Lock and body trust to ascend .. I thought by purchasing the foot Lock ascender .. it would B of use .. can U confirm it cannot B used for my application .. I haven't received it yet .. so based on your answer .. I will send it back 😉🆗
A foot ascender can be used with a moving rope system, however depending on what climbing system is being used, could dictate how smooth the system may tend. Also, because the rope is ran through a friction saver (or branch union) rather than just running a stationary system, your could be slightly more tiring.
I must be using mine wrong it says R for right foot on it but it goes on the outside of my foot so I never bothered with it and it gave me cramps bad in my outer thigh
Ok, if you're aware of the line kicking out, why are you using that Camp foot ascender? Is there a better make/model out there that doesn't risk kick outs? Is that the best equipment out there?
Some prefer a non-locking foot ascender such as this model because of the ease to kick out the rope at will... once the technique is down. It eliminates the added step physically bending over to remove another cam. However, the Camp Turbo is now Camp Turbo Evo, which does have a lock feature. Absolutely there are makes with lock functions, but it ultimately comes down to preference.
@@BartlettArboristSupply Thanks for the info - appreciate it. I'm more of a beginner climber using equipment - what would you recommend for foot ascenders? Are the European brands the best, or are most makes about the same? With your life on the line (literally), is an $35 just as capable as a $120 model?
The CT Foot Ascender is one of the most popular as it is still compact and has a locking feature. This specific footie works for anyone, no matter the experience level. A $35 foot ascender is just as capable as its $120 counterpart, however there may be differences on the cam design, webbing used, durability of the said ascender, and in the case of the Camp Turbo; pulleys to help reduce drag.
@@BartlettArboristSupply Again - thanks for the info. I want to get the CT Foot Ascender - can you use any style of rope with it? I have a 1/2" three strand bull rope - I think it will fit, but not sure that style will work right with the cam mechanism - does it make a difference? Also, does the cam teeth damage rope? Do you have to replace rope often when using these foot ascenders?
We would recommend using the ascender within the rope diameter that the manufacturer has recommended; most times it would be 11mm-13mm (some may be as low as 10mm rope). We recommend using the ascenders with double braided ropes; 24-strand count or higher, as they share load between cover and core (may be different depending on the rope you have chosen). We would not recommend using these tooth cam ascenders on three-strand or 16-strand ropes. The toothed cam can, over time, begin to pick and/or shear the jacket (depending on the amount of force being applied or via other factors) and most 16-strand ropes are cover dependent.
Thanks for sharing this tip!👍🏽 🇨🇦🇺🇸
I’ll have to try this with my notch jet step. It doesn’t happen every time but it does happen sometimes.
Thanks for the tip Abdon...
Hi
Great tip.
Where can I buy the device you use close to your chest, it locks when going up and you use it for descending?
How is it called?
Thanks
Chest croll. Petzl brand.

I'm honestly not trying to be a jerk; you can avoid the need for a piece of equipment by just taking the time to nail down foot locking.
And you can wear yourself out and take longer if you want too, I wont
I got a better tip, buy one that locks.
