It's a Gilbert O Sullivan song but Sir Tom Jones vocals are soooo string n great, I lost track of time just listening to this masterpiece... God really blessed him with incredible vocals at birth n he is still great today in 2022 ♥️♥️🌹🌹🙏🙏. I'm a huge fan 🙏🙏🌹🌹♥️♥️. Thank you for your music n especially your vocals. You're a superstar 👍👍👍♥️♥️🌹🌹
@JOHNNORTHBRADY hmmmm Gilbert is ok John, but and you know there is always a but, Tom puts his heart and soul into it ,I think it's better.. cheers mate.
Tom Jones is a great performer, who sings with feeling & power. The author of the song is Gilbert O'Sullivan, a great composer/lyricist, not a bad singer but no one is as a great singer as Tom Jones, because Tom always sings with the passion of an amateur no matter how professional he is. Yes professional is a negative word in my book, meaning cold-hearted & calculating-
@@zeezee9670 He was also Engelbert Humperdinck's manager . The three singers are all still alive into their 70s and 80s , but Gordon Mills died quite young years ago . The Gilbert O'Sullivan song Claire was allegedly written about the times when Gilbert would babysit for Mr.Mills' Daughter , Claire . I am full of useless information , but it can be quite handy at pub quizzes !
I have read the story behind Claire but didn't remember the name. Is there any useless info (in the right context of course)?? Any info can be the missing link that triggers one of the "well-oiled lightning-speed chain" of brain cells (intuition iif you like). Then, even if you think you are filling a memory capacity of sorts, then the info extends the capacity. ;pIn short keep it coming for me and the others here, thanks.
I was 7 years old when the original song was released and I absolutely loved it - it's a very moving song. I just found this version by Tom Jones (I love his voice) and it has far more emotion and depth than Gilbert O'Sullivan's version. Thank you for uploading :)
The very song version from Tom Jones which holds a heavy weight of my childhood memory with every second of this track, I wish I could see more of his rare Performances of this song soon.
Marvelous song by the most marvelous of singers! THe feeling TOm puts into this song along wiht his magnificent voice is an unbeatable combination! Has anyone got a copy of Ring of Fire performed on Danish TV by Tom back in 1967????
You are 100% correct my friend! All of the total worthless crap that gets million of views...and along comes this classic from 1971 sung to perfection by one of the greatest singers in history, and it has a 4000? Amazing isn't it?
@elvidinck Amen, brother, amen! I could not have said it better myself. We live in a world now that does not know what it has lost. Just two generations ago, we could watch giant talents sing, dance, act, do comedy and other live performance art. But no longer. It really is amazing what psses for talent these days, and they are all "superstars", right? The term "superstar" was first used, believe it or not, to describe Tom Jones, a singer's singer. No singer today can compare to him.
"When I'm drinking my Bonaparte Shandy, eating more than enough apple pies; will I glance at my screen and watch real human beings starve to death right in front of my eyes?" Wow!
Jesus lol that was shit. I like Tom Jones a day didn't realise he sang this one. Sorry Tom. Sometimes they give you a great song but if its already great then you can only fuck it up lol and before you all start writing shit. Listen to both versions:) from the beginning to the end ;)
Solveig Mortensen I would not say that the version of Tom Jones is better or worse than the version of Gilbert. Just different I would say. I like both of the versions.
No no no,, this song is painful if not sang exactly the proper timing,,..he is dragging the arse outta it...when done at exact speed it doesn't sound overly sentimental or cheesy like Mr Jones.

This voice is simply amazing, so many years, so many songs, sung so brilliantly!

A Welshman singing an Irishman's song. That is perfection.

Wow! What a version!!
I hate that it's in 4/4. The change in meter loses a lot in my opinion.
Such a wonderful song, such a tender interpretation. Love it!
Том красава,лучше всех
Brilliant performance! Tom Jones one of the best crooners of all time

Unmatched! Masterly...simply outstanding.

Somehow this song suits him
Original is a walz.

What a song for all singers to attempt?
❤️🙏🏻😎🎶💋🔥💥
Kuunyelen Tomppaa😊
Tom's a great performer but Gilbert O'Sullivan's version is the definitive one.
Detsl featuring Marusya - Pismo
I prefer it by Burton Cummings but Tom does it very well indeed.
Not a bad version at all but the original by the man who also wrote it wins by a country mile.
gilberts is the best version but tom does a great job .
Децл - письмо 😂
I don't like the time signature change from 6/8 to 4/4. Feel like it loses a lot. The lyrics and melody were written to fit that 3/4 or 6/8 feeling.
Great, love Tom Jones, big fan, but a bit over performed. I prefer the original version by Gilbert O'Sullivan.
You can’t get near the original....

Honestly I like Gilbert O'Sullivans version better, much better.

His voice is so clear & so strong
But I must say, I don't like the song.
You're tone deaf.
He ruined this classic. A disgrace.
Still prefer Burton Cummings' version.
