About:
Gladiator is a 2000 American-British epic historical drama film directed by Ridley Scott and written by David Franzoni, John Logan, and William Nicholson. The film was co-produced and released by DreamWorks Pictures and Universal Pictures. DreamWorks Pictures distributed the film in North America while Universal Pictures released it internationally through United International Pictures. It stars Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Ralf Möller, Oliver Reed (in his final role), Djimon Hounsou, Derek Jacobi, John Shrapnel, Richard Harris, and Tommy Flanagan. Crowe portrays Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius, who is betrayed when Commodus, the ambitious son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, murders his father and seizes the throne. Reduced to slavery, Maximus becomes a gladiator and rises through the ranks of the arena to avenge the murders of his family and his emperor.
Inspired by Daniel P. Mannix's 1958 book Those About to Die (formerly titled The Way of the Gladiator), the film's script, initially written by Franzoni, was acquired by DreamWorks and Ridley Scott signed on to direct the film. Principal photography began in January 1999, before the script was completed, and wrapped up in May of that year, with the scenes of Ancient Rome shot over a period of nineteen weeks in Fort Ricasoli, Malta. The film's computer-generated imagery effects were created by British post-production company The Mill, who also created a digital body double for the remaining scenes involving Reed's character Proximo due to Reed dying of a heart attack during production.
Gladiator premiered in Los Angeles on May 1, 2000, and was released theatrically in Australia on May 4, the United States on May 5 and in the United Kingdom on May 11. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for the acting (particularly Crowe's and Phoenix's performances), Scott's direction, visuals, screenplay, action sequences, musical score and the production values. It was a box office success, grossing $187.7 million in the United States and grossed $457 million worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing film of 2000. The film won multiple awards, including five at the 73rd Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Actor for Crowe, Best Costume Design, Best Sound and Best Visual Effects. It also received four BAFTA Awards at the 54th British Academy Film Awards for Best Film, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design and Best Editing. Since its release, Gladiator has also been credited with reinventing the sword-and-sandal genre and rekindling interest in entertainment centered around the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome, such as the television series Rome.

Classics are best left alone. C'mon Hollywood come up with some new movies, there are millions of great books out there.
Thanks for this. Now, I can check it off my watchlist.
You won’t change *RusselCrow he’s the original OG
Hes changed quite a bit. Sen his Sothebys catalogue for the divorce?
I never get tired of watching this film
Its a classic, still a great movie 24 years later
And I am too....🥰🥰..
I don't know how many times I watched this great movie🥰
ME too
You can never repeat the success of the original, mistake!
Maximus, his wife and son are dead. What's the point?
I cannot wait to watch Gladiator 11. I do believe in Miracles: I Pray that Maximus will rise from death! Russell Crowe was The Best Performer Actor in Gladiator. The Whole World knows that: We would love to see Russell Crowe back as Maximus!
Who knows maybe they could bring him back somehow
Well one thing-at least they aren’t trying to remake the original.
They could never do the original justice........epic film. But I heard they were doing a younger version of Maximus.......either way, can't wait
No dares, or tries to makes a copy of the 'Mona Lisa' or of Michelangelo's 'David' ! Why movie producers think they can repeat true movie classics is beyond me ! Of course there is the ever present 'Culture and Vulture of Greed' hanging over everything ! Ridley Scott of all people should know that, with having none of his classic movie 'copies' being successful! - It also reflect badly on producers, writers and directors of not being able to come up with new original ideas ! -
Hollywood is FULL of queers, been nothing GREAT in 40 years. Only movies that do well, just don't suck as much as the rest. -- everybody is trying to make a statement.
Such a huge fan of the original film. Ive rewatched it so many times, looking forward to seeing what they do with this, what happen s to the remaining characters. I believe that Lucius maybe Maximus son, not sure Paul Mescal can fill Russell Crowes shoes, they are big ones to fill.
I agree, its not many movies that are good 24 years after they've been released
I want to see it . American Gangster was great and it sounds like a great cast !
I’m not holding my breath if Napoleon is anything to go by. That was a stinker.
Yes Miguel but he’s dead…. Give the new cast a chance. As much as I love Russel, I’m glad they didn’t try and raise him from the dead.
Too physical for aged Russell
They never do as good when the main star doesn't come back
Well to be fair, the main character died in the first film, so unless he's like Jesus, and manages to rise from the dead, it's highly unlikely that Russell Crowe will put in an appearance.
I don't see the need for a part two in any case - the first movie was self contained and required no follow up. Some movies just can't be improved upon, and 'Gladiator' is one of them.

As a rule, part 2 films are usually a let down when the first film was such a hit with fans.
Remakes should only be done when/if the script was good but the acting and set was poor.
@@David-kk5fxseveral great exceptions though. Godfather 2, Aliens, Terminator 2, Lethal Weapon 2……but the majority of sequels should not be. Remakes? I need to think about for my opinion.
"Script by Nick Cave..Maximus returns as in a reincarnated form" Lol, sure fire dud
Hollywood probably will try to remake star wars and Jaws
Since they are casting Matt Lucas in this, Lucas can resurrect his Pompidou like character set in the Gladiator world. Kinda like in the Black Adder series which puts him in various time pieces. but with Pompidou somehow ending up in a gladiator school. Perhaps as a sub plot of the original Gladiator. Which can give an explanation for bringing back Crow and Phoenix and what’s left of the original cast. . I believe this is what people would most appreciate as a fine sequel to Gladiator. Be different, but honor the original.
With CGI, it might be possible to even bring back Oliver Reed. Can you imagine Pompidou and his butler mixing with Proximo. And imagine if they were to CGI ole Sugar Tits herself into this as well! It would be cinema GOLD!
I thought the next movie was going to be about Maximus as a young man and how he became. General
I LOVED the original. I believe this is a mistake
Most sequels are.
We really don't need a woke maximus.
Sit down
@@ladybitts9271fk woke
I agree with the previous moments but I hope this is still a good movie. The original is like a diamond that can’t be duplicated
Actors need to pay their bills 😊
I hope it will a good one, but will never be the like the first one, specially how Hollywood doing things now 😢
The First one was amazing
I can't wait, please bring it on ( The movie ) ❤❤❤
I love that Denzel & Connie will be in this, but not sure about Lucious' character...guess we will see(?)
I don't know why they didn't use the original Lucius. ( Spencer Treat Clark) did a fantastic job in Animal Kingdom. Paul Mescal looks too short as Lucius. Continunality???
This is like making Braveheart 2… hmmmm hard to top it
Brave heart - what a load of twaddle.
Historically inaccurate and Mel Gibson - the worst Scottish accent on film.
@@David-kk5fx for someone using the word “twaddle” ur awfully judgmental
@@David-kk5fxdefinitely not historically accurate, but was a great Hollywood type film. As for the accent, I kept telling myself it could be worse, Nic Cage or Kevin Costner could have tried it.🤮
Gonna be great to see the sequel but will be a difficult task because the 2 main actor’s characters are dead. But since it’s the same director there is a very good chance it’s gonna be a success. Everything he does is good ❤
I watched the first one at least 18 times!
Russell Crowe has adamantly denounced a sequel and wants nothing to do with it.
i can't wait!
It’s gonna bomb
I wonder if he’ll turn out to be Maximus’ son.
It was suggested that he was..
Gladiator II, he died in the first movie. Recipe for disaster.
Gladiator 2 Will never cut legend performance of Russel Crowe .. dissapointment
I don't know man,, Gladiator without Russell Crowe would be like remaking Gone With the Wind without Clarke Gable ! 🤮
I liked the video because it gave detailed information about the movie.
Thank you
❤❤❤❤It is a awesome movie
Will Russell Crowe be replaced with Rachel Zegler? ("She's NOT going to marry The Emperor - Weird Weird Wierd!") 🤣
Haha probably
It sucks for Spenser Treat Clark, that he’s not going to reprise his role as Lucius. I wonder why? Maybe they don’t think he’s a good enough actor. I saw him on Animal Kingdom playing a gay character that surfs, and he’s in good physical shape, so that’s not the problem. Maybe they feel he’s not a good enough actor to play the starring role.
Exactly my thoughts!!!
Flop written all over it.
Maximus, "My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."
Tattooist, " I`ll just put ' Max" then, dear."
I can't blame the writer of that, they're present here in camouflaged person's in this present generation, probably the character script was intentional pointing at this time , I'm not lawyering for the movie scriptwriter but I've seen the correlation.
Russell is too out of shape to play Maximus again.
No shit sherlock?
Always take a good movie and ruin it by doing a remake.
👍😀
Sounds like an upcoming "flop", Ridley Scott or not.
How can General Lucius Varus become Emperor when he and his 4 Legions perished in the German forest ambushed by Roman German Armenius and his German tribes warriors, and how can Lucilla who could have belong to the age time period of one of the 5 Good Emperors Emperor Marcus Aurelius the last Roman Emperor have in the same time period with Lucius and Varus and Maximus, how can Mark Anthony be involved with Lucilla when Mark Anthony and Octavian who belonged to the 2nd Triumvirate age time period at the end of Roman Republic to the Gaius Caesar time period of Augustus Caesar the Octavian, was that time flip flopped time here and there as all star cast from different age time period ?
Who is this guy asking if Denzel can hold up a space Crowe left? Crowe is no Denzel. You need to step away from the heroin.
No.This never should have been done again.Pascal is NOT Crowe
Nah, sequels rarely fare well. It would b like Elvis in Vegas at 21 yrs old..
You mean like the Die Hard franchise? Each one made more money than the last.
Gladiator is an outstanding film although it's very inaccurate. One example is Lucilla who was exiled by Commodus to Capri after a failed coup and later executed at his order. He killed her daughter as well. Truth is so much stranger than fiction. Why do film makers have to mess with the facts?
Gladiator and Braveheart are in the same category IMO. Great to watch, but not historically accurate.
Ridley Scott would have done better to film a completely different story, unaffiliated with "Gladiator." There is plenty of history to draw from.
Script changes code for ,we are going woke
If it's going to be for non existent "modern aufiences," no, I won't watch it.
I don't want to poison more good memories.
Where're Beyonce and Jay-Z???
Ridley should know better, you cannot improve on perfection. I promise you, this will not be nominated for one Oscar!!It will be a huge mistake!!
Didn't he die at the end
Yes
Maximus will become new transgender emperor of Rome, all hail the cezar!!!
Will not be anywhere as good as the original simply because Hemsworth is not nearly as good an actor as Crowe. Ironically both Aussies.
F L O P
Cant see this being any good to be fair with Russell crowe no chance of being in this as died in 1st they should of left this a just the 1 it will never stack up to that original
just B.S. like the passion 2 , never making the film
Well, that was a whole lot of nothing.
Russel crowe died in the first one.
No shit batman.
This is utter bollocks the lot of it period.
ITS GOING TOO BOMB........To many changes poor story .
I don't write this with any pleasure ....ee will see
Napoleon was garbage don’t hold your breath for this one. Just saying
Napoleon was terrible and I don’t see this being any better but hope to be proven wrong.
Skirts for Men sre back.. Boring!!
Kilts hurrah for the Scots
