They still produce the same amount of spot free water, but you can make them last longer because you can use the bypass to use regular water for parts of your car wash and then switch to filtered water for your final rinse. If there is no bypass your using the filters the whole time. So even though the filters will produce the same amount of spot free water, you will be able to get more car wash's out of it because you control when you use it
Finally someone who reviews this, i have asked Bigboi multiple times for videos and they never responded. Customer service sucks with them. Thank you Josh
The carbon filter is actually a good addition. It doesn't remove any desolved solids, but it does pull the chlorine out. Chlorine will eat up your resin and shorten the life. I've been running an inline RV carbon filter just to try and preserve the resin. I have high chlorine and around 500ppm of TDS. The resin be struggle'n in my garage.
Good to hear your experience on that! I know a carbon filter can really help the membrane on an RO system, but I wasnt sure if it really helps prevent break down on a DI system
I’ve had my CR Spotless system for about three years and it works great, since I just wash my own cars I don’t go through a lot of resin, great to have options, thanks Josh 👍😁
ive been debating a di system. weekend warrior.wash two cars per week. will the resin go bad quicker if it sits and not used everyday? id use it for final rinse, garden hose pressure
@ I don’t wash my cars as often as you do but I use my DI water basically from start to finish, the main reason is even though I wash first thing in the morning I’m in direct sunlight and my tinted windows spot terrible if I use straight tap water, for me the resin lasted me about two years before I changed it out at 15 to 20 ppm, I’ve never had the resin go bad from water sitting in the tanks, I also have the duel tank system, hope this helps you
You should be able to just put the carbon filter on the right side and the other DI cartridge on the left and have the inlet on the right and the outlet on the left. The only variable Could be the TDS Meter probe locations
I run the water drop Di system with the internal bypass and love it. It has one valve and a robust stainless steel by pass pipe. On initial hook up no leaks. I did add a carbon filter to prolong the life of the resin cartridges and overall love the performance of the system. The quality of the water drop DI system is stout. Highly recommend this set up.
I live down here in rosirito and my ppm is around 650 to as high as 720... I use the griot's single tank mixed bed deionizer. It recommends 13lbs of resin. My first round only lasted for 3 final rinses before it was already at 20ppm. So I added 2 more pounds of resin to the tank and the next round got me 20 final rinses before it went to 20ppm. Hard to believe that little bit of resin makes that much difference but it does I'm on my 6th round and the results are very consistent. So there is a tip to all you DIY people like me..
Keav has a good youtube on carbon filter in front of the resin and how it extends the life of the resin. I bought a $400 Envig carshine 817 includes 2.6 gpm flow, bypass, tds, stainless etc and put a charcoal filter in front. It's incredible but not wall mountable but super cheap/easy resin replacement.
Josh..the Carbon filter is for saving your DI resin which hates chlorine..want your di resin to last even longer Get a RO filter..flow is reduced so that's why you don't see it in most applications but a holding tank would fix that issue but much cheaper Di water setup longer term..
So carbon first, into an ro filter into a holding tank, then into the spotless. The holding tank needs to send water too tho, so unless it's really gravity fed are you using a pump on that or is the reduced flow when the water is actually moving enough to do that?
@Calihan so there are many routes to get to a solution but the cheapest way would be source water to carbon filter to RO to holding tank with a Hudson float valve...then ideally you'd have a pressure washing capable of pulling it's own water so typically a bit higher end machines ar630, kranzle, active 2.0 and above....when you add RO to the system it drops water supply below what you would want to holding tank solves that issue...now your DI resin lasts a year instead of a month
Hey Josh, you probably already know this now, but as for the plumbing quirk, can be resolved if the initial install of the pressure washer you could avoid the funkiness by installing them side by side (filters on left & pressure washer on the right) and problem solved. 👍
Great info. But the issue with the water supply depends where your source comes from. If it was on the opposite wall than there would be no need for all that pex piping.
The water Inlet for the pressure washer is on the left so it would be nice if the outlet for for the filters was on the left as well. The water source I just ran a hose from to the inlet on the filters.. it’s really not too big of a deal just wanted to mention everything I noticed
Josh no one is providing more useful content than you. Keep em coming! However I agree with the original comment here. If the water outlet was on the opposite wall, you could have run the source into the filters on the left, and instead of stacking the pressure washer above it, simply install it directly to the right and eliminate the excess pex piping. Not a big deal. It would just all depend on the individual’s situation.
From watching Keav's channel, the CR spotless bypass is a bad afterthought that barely puts out the minimum amount of flow. It's a 3/8 tube if i recall correctly. I have also not had an issue with my BigBoi pro, but its nowhere near the output they claim. Im getting about 2gpm at about 950 psi, but the amp draw is insanely low.
When you did a lot of Mobile Detailing with your van do you fill your tank up with deionized water or do you just use other products like water spot remover and drying aids to combat mineralized water? The Doug Demuro nod at the beginning was funny. 😂 Love your videos Josh. Cool that you're a fan of Doug's.
Ha thanks! Yeah for my mobile set up I fill the whole tank with di water… a system like this isn’t the best solution for that since I go through so much water. But for home use it’s great
Yeah I think the tds sensors are the main reason they say to keep it on that order. It’s not that big of a deal and running the pipe looks pretty good, but since the inlet for the pressure washer is on the left side I think it would have made sense to have the outlet on that side as well
why didn't you just flip the base of the filters where are they screw on if you want it the hose to be on your right instead of your left all had to do just take off all 12 screws from the bracket and flip the base it around.
@imjoshv I meant if you just spun the assembly around. So all the cartridges are in the same order but the mounting bracket is just in the opposite direction. The bypass piping would be in the front, but that's no big deal. The wires for the TDS meter can just be twisted a bit, no big deal.
Yeah I know I wanted to do that, but I also don’t want to waste the water/cartridges… I’ll see if I can do something like that though… have to be careful on CA hah, I might get fined for too much water usage
Josh! Very informative, I enjoy your videos. I thing I'm gonna pick this up. Are the resin cartridges reusable? can you fill them up with resin bought elsewhere?
What’s the parts list to use pex piping like the connections? I wanted to do that and I saw all the different sizes and thread styles kinda confused me when I got my bigboi deionizer in. Lol
How do you deal with cold temperatures on the pex setup? I was concerned so ended up using a hose based setup direct from bib, so I can disconnect from wall mounted kranzle between uses in winter!
I’d like your take on the CR Spotless with the bypass. Keav did a review and didn’t love it, because it restricts the flow. I really don’t understand why that is a problem. He wants maximum flow. Can you provide feedback?
Sometimes if the flow isn’t enough it can let water through that hasn’t been filtered which mean you won’t get 0ppm… if that’s the flow I think you are referring to. Im planning on going to cr spotless though and I’ll find out
I just bought my TDS meter from your link in another video. I live in South Georgia and I get my water from my Well. I've been detailing for lil over 18months. Long story short, my TDS meeter says my water is 12PPM. Should I still invest in a DI set up? I haven't had any issues of water spotting since I've been detailing.
From what I'm gathering from what you've said, I should get a lot of water from either water system. 🤔 I was under the impression that when it said supports up to "300" gallons that that's what I'd get. My detailing water tank is 250 gallons.
12ppm??? Wow that’s incredible. Supposedly anything up to about 20 is still spot free. So if that’s the case you should t need anything. If you want it to be 0ppm you could still use a system like this and it will last you a looong time since your water quality is still very good

I’m curious, everything appears to be mounted to the bracket with screws. Couldn’t have you inverted the filter canister in the reverse order to obtain your desired water flow needs?
@ Keep the order. Invert the wall mount. You would unmount all three filters from the wall mount. Put the bypass now on the front side of the canister. Turn it all around. Bring the monitor to the back side. Then remount the filters back to the wall mount. Then attach to wall. You haven’t change anything but the logos now face the wall.
Yeah that makes sense to me too, but I did call and speak with BigBoi and they said it needs to stay in that order. Maybe because of the TDS Meter sensors?
