In many ways I am more excited about this kitchen renovation than the Convent kitchen. I get lovely Downton Abbey vibes imagining a huge chestnut 🌰 table in front of the open granite fireplace, with big ceramic bowls and wooden spoons and copper pudding molds. So look forward to seeing this evolve. 👌💖
I would love to sit in front of the open fire, in a side chair, and have Carson bring me a glass of the finest red wine; after a long day of truffle hunting with that adorable pig of Michael's.. LOL..
I could listen to Michaels’ voice describing with passion and excitement the history of your chateau all day. He looks as though this kind of work brings him joy. Truthfully, I am enjoying the return to the homestead content very much. Thank you. ❤
I’m pretty blown away by how much that coat of plaster refreshes the space in the chateau. It’s incredible. Also impressed with Michael’s ability to complete tedious tasks like waterproofing the courtyard. And painting a room with a brush.
I was thinking through the whole description that you could film a show like Downton Abby in your kitchen once it’s finished…and then Micheal mentioned it at the end. That’s a testament to both your skills of describing your vision for sure, I was definitely tracking with it!
I have been looking forward to this kitchen being finished for a long time and I think Michael will do a most fantastic job ! Simon and Yanis are amazing workers and even with Yanis being the new craftsman, their work is stunning. Thank you, Billy, for your amazing filming, the children and the little pig are such delights.
It doesn't matter where you have your people, Michael Simon Yannis, and yourself. The Convent or the Chateau an amazing skillful and talented bunch and always make such a huge difference and improvements 😊
Michael's tedious and labor-intensive work above the kitchen reminds me of Billy's long slog with the convent's kitchen floor tiles. Long, hard graft involved in both jobs.
I have two suggestions regarding the grouting of the terrace/kitchen roof. First, get some cotton clothesline of hemp rope and run it through the washing machine for a few cycles. When it's nice and soft. pack it into the bottom of the grout lines. This will serve to support the grout in the next step. Second, after you mix your two-part resin/hardener grout, scoop it into a large plastic kitchen storage bag. Cut one corner off the bottom and use the bag as a giant pastry bag to apply the grout from the bottom up. You will find it to go much faster and neater. Finish up with the putty knife or trowel. I've done this many times although my renovations have been done on a much smaller scale than yours.
What a fantastic project, knowing The Pethricks it will be wonderful to watch, you have a great team. Simon, what a lovely man, so patient and a great teacher, well done to Yannis x🇬🇧👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I am so glad you keeping the kitchen as original as it was , it will look fabulous. The plastering is coming along and looks fab as well Loved watching
The kitchen is very exciting. Michael and Gwen are probably having fun with the plans. I love seeing the smiles on the children’s faces and your dad keeping the grounds free from falling limbs. Yannis is a pro now. He will complete the plastering perfectly! xx
So excited to see this old kitchen come to life. Big job but well worth doing. This project will be mega. Lovely to see Michael using his skills and can’t wait to see it. ❤
I really enjoyed this video- back at the chateau and with Michael! Simon & Yannis are such excellent craftsmen and I’m curious about Simon’s project as well. Thank you for your vlogs.😘
I'm so glad Gwen called you back to work on the chateau for now Billy. Such interesting content as always and exciting to be here to watch it all happen. Great to be seeing Michael! We're going to miss Simon! Hope he comes back soon!
Yanis is chafing at the bit for a Simon size trowel, and I think he’s going to need one rather soon too. Michael is such a sweetheart with the care he has for restoring that kitchen without having it look modern. Already the floor is drier than it was when last we looked. The children always look so happy…and I still love the pig.🖤🇨🇦
I just admire the fact that you are trying to replicate the original design of the kitchen You are so sympathetic in your approach and I look forward to seeing your plans coming to fruition showing how new can meet old
Billy and Gwen, thank you for sharing your children with us. 🫶🥂🙏 16:39 a frosted glass door between the kitchen and the back room would give it light 💡. Just like those offices. 👍🏻🥂
Transom windows with a fixed screen, keeps the bugs out . A big side board would be great. Store all table covering & napkins and such ; a buffet would look great also. Michael is so talented
Ok Billy....you will have to gift Yanis with a larger trowel now...he has earned it!! He has come so far under the training of Simon. Yea Yanis!! Love the plans for the new kitchen and dumb-waiter, it will all be fantastic and do hope that it comes to fruition! Michael is so articulate and explains things so well, he sounds very passionate about this project and am so glad that he is heading this up. Thank you Billy!!
I love that Michael is retaining so much of the original feel and workings of the kitchen. I'd guess that washing area would be known as the "scullery" in England. With all those ovens, you could start your own bakery!
Thank you so much for sharing your lives during the fantastic restoration process. Such a pleasure to watch the friendship amongst you all and the craftsmanship. Love watching the progress in your videos, 👏👏👏👏💝🇦🇺
Michael i love your vision of the kitchen. I can't wait to see it come to life. Billy, thank you for letting all of us share in your family & the adventures of your lives!!!!❤❤❤
It's Happening!! I've been waiting for this on Michaels channel - hint hint. Gwen must be so thrilled!! The plaster work upstairs has transformed the stairwell and halls. Thank you again for the sneak peaks inside your Beautiful Chateau!!
Plaster is such a skill! Soooo difficult to find craftsman to do this kind of work where I live in the US! I’m sure Gwen is loving seeing things finished!!!
The knowledge and the memory that you both have is just wonderful, it makes you want to sit with a cuppa and listen for more. Great job, just great, thank you.
Just love it when Michael gets excited about a new project 😊. Really hoping we get to see a finished product, was so looking forward to seeing the finished cottage. He does such fine work. As you all do. Keep rallying the troops Billy! Crack on then
Michael and Billy, I really love how much you respect and do your best to replicate the original plans and decor. I can't wait to see the original kitchen completed.
How. exciting for you and I love the focus on restoring to the old/former situation where possible and combining with modern equipment - tastefully of course! Greetings from NZ and a fan.
Very excited to watch the kitchen reno unfold. What about turning the very back room into a walk in fridge? You could then utilize the other space for storage, dry items, commercial dishwasher? Just a suggestion. This is gonna be epic!
Michael has great vision and it’s going to be a fantastic kitchen! Maybe that far pantry that is beyond where the commercial dishwasher will be can be best used as a walk in freezer. Great job, Yannis! You have a great teacher in Simon!
there is a company called Heritage Tile in the US they specialize in reproducing historical tile. they have some stuff that is so beautiful it could make you cry, worth looking into.
So Exciting can’t wait for the reno to begin!! When I saw your youngest in this video Gwen and Billy, I nearly dropped what was in my hands he looks so much like a child in my family 😊😊!
You should look up the kitchens from the Newport Rhode Island Mansions built in the 1800’s. They have some with intact kitchens as they were. Could be inspiration to you to look at the pictures. A few of them are amazing with all the copper pots remaining. Preservation society does a fantastic job of maintaining these mansions.
When Michael said he was going to make it an open fire I was bouncing in my chair. This is going to ge great fun! I have been wishing for to this space to be created all along. (Thank you, Gwen) 🧡
Michael, could you put the granite patio sealer in a bag (like a pastry piping bag) and run a bead down the seam being sealed? It may be too thick to pipe.
Fabulous! I can almost smell the cooking with Michaels description. Real downton feel. I adore Michaels passion for recreating and restoring old things. I am going to love following this restoration. xx
Why doesn’t Michael use something like a piping bag to get the grout between the slabs on the patio. It would be a lot easier and a lot less messy I’m sure - Just a thought. 😎
I would put some frostet Glas tiles on top of the headlights on the Terrace, that would give you plenty of light in the kitchen…I love that Staff room, completely original, beautiful to just freshen that up, so much Charakter ❤❤❤
Kitchen is going to be fantastic! Love the floor and original tiles. The fireplace is amazing too! Got Downton Abbey vibes when Michael was describing it😊 Any ideas on the wall color?
Thank you so much Billy for sharing your home with us, some of us will never see a chateau like your, and it’s so beautiful. I find it a privilege, also love the convent, what a wonderful experience watching all you do. Michael has such patience and abilities in so many ways, a wonderful family.
The kitchen will be amazing. So glad that you are conserving the old tiles. Apart from the ecological benefits, they will be so nice and historic. Thank you for the video!
Michael, you can't make a mold of the kitchen tile, because when it fires it will shrink. But you should be able to find a ceramicist to get it to the right dimensions.
I can’t wait to see how you will restore your kitchen, will it be modernized or will you go with period……. Hoping to see it restored to its original style!
Billy, you are a fantastic interviewer!! From Simon's trowel tutorial, to Micheal's plans for the kitchen. And of course kudos to the editor. Much of the viewing pleasure comes from the video cuts chosen, the sound quality and the music choice. A well put together production as always.
Great plans for restoring and certain “upgrades in keeping” with the chateau kitchen spaces!!!❤ the staff entrance area is Most charming of all….feels like down under Downton Abbey!!!!
I'm so excited to see this kitchen come back to life! Definitely the Downton Abbey vibes. Will the kitchen be something you could offer cooking classes in? I would absolutely pay to take a cooking class in the Chateau in the kitchen Michael described. That is, unless it's just for private use. Again, so excited to see it come to life!
Quick suggestion for the tiles... just remove the tiled behind the sinks and cupboards you will be installing (since no one will see them) and use them to replace broken or missing tiles in other areas. No need for a ceramicist or someone to remake replicas.
My Architect grandfather designed and built his house, with the basement ceiling done the same way. Arched tiles between I beams. Concrete over the top. With an outdoor exit the basement was certified as the neighborhood storm shelter.
OMG, that reminds me so much of Downton Abbey!!! I LOVE all the things everyone is doing at the chateau, it's lovely at the convent, but it's so much fun to see you at your amazing chateau!! And great work Simon, and Yannis is learning so much.
Things are progressing beautifully, Billy. Everyone is doing such a fantastic job. I really love the teamwork on your channel. I wanted to ask, can you put that sealant that Michael is working with into a caulk gun and have one person caulk the first layer in, then another person following behind to top the joints off? It looks like such a long painful process. We don't want to wear Michael out. 😘💕 Also, I am so excited for the kitchen to be done. it's going to be so gorgeous with all the lovely original tiles. The table Michael mentioned that would be closer to the future sinks and stove, could it be made counter height and maybe have stools for it that slide neatly underneath? It would be nice to have an additional work surface that could also provide extra seating. Looking forward to seeing the rooms and hallways done upstairs. The chateau is really going to sparkle this year. 💖💖💖
👌💖
me too!
That’s what I was thinking - Downton Abbey vibes! It will be stunning when it’s renovated.
I thought the same thing about Downton Abbey!
I would love to sit in front of the open fire, in a side chair, and have Carson bring me a glass of the finest red wine; after a long day of truffle hunting with that adorable pig of Michael's.. LOL..
Oh yes,, i agree!
I could listen to Michaels’ voice describing with passion and excitement the history of your chateau all day. He looks as though this kind of work brings him joy. Truthfully, I am enjoying the return to the homestead content very much. Thank you. ❤
I couldn’t agree more!
I’m pretty blown away by how much that coat of plaster refreshes the space in the chateau. It’s incredible. Also impressed with Michael’s ability to complete tedious tasks like waterproofing the courtyard. And painting a room with a brush.

Me to our wait is finally over...lol
I love watching Simon plaster up the walls with such grace of motion.
Billy did an amazing job on the convent kitchen floor tiles .

Exactly..was thinking the same thing..especially with the pastry bag..would go so much faster and easier..

What a great project the old kitchen is, Michael knows exactly how he wants it and no doubt will look fabulous!

Love the renovation idea Michael is proposing. Can’t wait to see it all come together. Thanks for sharing 😍😘
Really love Micheal's attention to detail and the way he explains things. I can see it!
A butler's pantry. Nice use of space. I can't wait to watch the work being done down there. It's so exciting.

How is Michael feeling? He looks like he feels better. I can't wait to see this kitchen transformed like the kitchen at the convent. Thank you Billy.
I've seen the amazing things you can do with kitchens, so I can't wait for this one!
I love seeing more and more of the Chateau being revealed... honestly, if walls could talk the stories, they could tell.!😊🏴

Love seeing Michaels ideas for the kitchen, can't wait until he works on it. Great vlog everyone!
Micheals such an inspiration, he has the vision and know how to push this project through, such a talented family. Thanx Hazel
Hi Michael and Billy. I have an idea for the old kitchen pantry. I think it would make a great walk-in refrigerator and freezer.
there is a company called Heritage Tile in the US they specialize in reproducing historical tile. they have some stuff that is so beautiful it could make you cry, worth looking into.
Thanks, Michael, for sharing your ideas for the kitchen .
❤.
It's going to be fantastic xxx 😊
It seems overwhelming clearing out and maintaining all the woodland you have. Simon and Yannis are such a great team!
Its gonna be amazing, following the renovation of the kitchen. Love the story behind it all.
With Michael's knowledge and talent you know it will be fantastic.
So Exciting can’t wait for the reno to begin!! When I saw your youngest in this video Gwen and Billy, I nearly dropped what was in my hands he looks so much like a child in my family 😊😊!
Yannis I think you know your very fortunate to learn from a master like Simon. It will feed you the rest of your life.
The Chateau kitchen project is exciting!! Riveting! The stairwell plaster is truly transformational!❤😊

That was so interesting. I love that little office with the window. How cozy. I bet the window was for checking on the staff.
Please consider a bedroom tour, the glemse of the bedroom in this video has me intrigued
I was thinking about a cookie press. Because it looked thick. I'm always thinking about cheats.😁
Michael, I’m soo excited about this kitchen!!
Love the Pig, the little Boys Smile is just smashing 😊!!!!!
Fabulous! I can almost smell the cooking with Michaels description. Real downton feel. I adore Michaels passion for recreating and restoring old things. I am going to love following this restoration. xx
I’m exhausted just watching the amount of effort these folks put into a job. Have a great weekend and rest
Why doesn’t Michael use something like a piping bag to get the grout between the slabs on the patio. It would be a lot easier and a lot less messy I’m sure - Just a thought. 😎
Very interesting tour of the old kitchen look forward to seeing all the ideas you have keeping it as near to the original as possible 🤗 Ann 🏴

Michael is working hard to restore the kitchen ! It’s going to be beautiful .
Billy, your family is amazingly talented!!! ❤
@ThePethricks. Billy don't forget to have a bathroom near the kitchen for staff use.
Looking forward to this marvelous transformation!!!
Quick suggestion for the tiles... just remove the tiled behind the sinks and cupboards you will be installing (since no one will see them) and use them to replace broken or missing tiles in other areas. No need for a ceramicist or someone to remake replicas.
That's a big kitchen. You have lots of work to do to it and I can't wait to see your videos of the improvements. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍
I'm so excited for this kitchen project!!! It's going to be beautiful!
Terrific kitchen plan. It'll be period perfect.

I think that would be a perfect layout for the old kitchen i like how you try to keep things old looking
