Thanks for the coverage. The wind in Snoqualmie and North Bend was intense and would have raised a signal 10 in Hong Kong. The wind through the trees was so powerful I felt like a sailor going around the horn. I worked outside and it nearly blew me over a number of times. Some of the gusts forced me to my knees. It was 15 hours of constant roar. I been through many storms here and a few in eastern washington, this was up there for sure but we always get these in November one can say. Amazing picture of the Beast offshore dominating the northern Pacific ocean. We should name it. how about Baby Godzilla lol
Congrats on all the subs you're getting. I think I got in around 3-4 K so it's nice to see your channel growing. Keep up the good and informative work. Part of my daily routine to get your weather nuggets for the day and then-some extra goodies.
Hey, I saw your car in Enumclaw on Tuesday!!! You were aimed into the wind and a beautiful mountain backdrop with a lowering gray sky above. Was on my way toward Mt. Rainier and a few minutes after I passed you I had to stop and lift a fallen tree out of the road !!! I love your show!!!
As a veteran of numerous week long power outages in the WV, sending sympathy to those without power. But you probably can’t read this. This is when neighbors help each other.
Oh my gosh ... lived Seattle 80's & 90's so know how it can be ... and how this one is huge! Thankfully have been back home in the islands .... so sending you folks so much Aloha!
Coming back from Thailand around Japan November 20th, flying back to the USA there was a 138 mile an hour tailwind. Ground speed was a little over 700 miles an hour. Crazy!,,,,,,,,,,,,
Passed a for tree down on I405 across 3 lanes of traffic - then up I90 trees down onto the carpool lane- Hwy 18 closed. - counted 31 trees down from I90 home on snoqualmie ridge 4 across the roadways. It was wild
I drove from Issaquah back to Seattle. and the fact that Issaquah, Sammamish, Factoria, & Mercer Island were ALL DARK was super spooky. The tree damage along Front St. in Issaquah was extensive and crazy! I had a friend told me that is snowed in Spokane a day or two before out windstorm and then realized, were gonna get a rare windstorm. Worse that i can remember since 2006. At least were not getting more deaths like we had in 2006.
Digging out here in Jordan River, no power still. Hopefully the next system m is mellower and not so destructive. Thanks for the forecasting Amigo. Very much appreciated.
If you’re driving through Oregon on I5 you can check TripCheck weather cameras and closures on their maps California has their own version of that aswell.
Trip check is great. I've been using it for years to watch the weather on highway 58 between Eugene and Klamath falls. They finally got the ice down so you can see the pavement. I'm supposed to travel it Monday.
We got nailed in Bandon oregon on Tuesday and the coquille river is flooding into the pastures and getting higher by the hour so it'll be interesting to see how this next system affects us here on the southern oregon coast
Thanks 4 the update Michael. Seems my old weather machine is no longe working. Will be ordering one of these tempest stations using you're discount code here soon. I'm over the wind. BRING. ON. THE. SNOWWWWW
I'm glad the second storm gave us a miss. I really didn't need another day of power outages! SnoPUD did a fantastic job on Camano this year for both the storms, there's still people out north and south of me but they've gotten much of the island back. Really feel for the people who are in a second day of outage, it's cold!
I noticed how that bomb cyclone literally tore the Jetstream in two! I looked at the 500mb image when the cyclone was just offshore the Oregon coast as it was tracking its way North to cause all the damage it did. You feel helpless to help anyone out besides to warn them. I took your forecast seriously and prepped even though im inland 90 miles. If that cyclone had gotten any closer to Lincoln City, im sure those of us in Parkrose would've felt it!! I did watch my weather station closely but the barometer never dropped below 994mb. That was the final dip i saw before it started to slowly climb back up as the low moved up north. It was an interesting and learning experience to me!!
Good morning Michael! Good too know you didn't let the nay say'rs dent your up beat attitude! Good too see the winds dye out. Now,, I got about 14"- 20"'s of snow digging too do, and 9 trees dropped too cord up on this side of my 17.88 acre Southern Oregon property. Thee other side,, will have too wait till spring.
Michael, The Federal Way, Auburn area had it's power go out about 8pm Tuesday evening. It came back on about 9am Wednesday morning. Yep, 13 hours approx. It was little more than a nuisance. All I can say is that in this day and age it pays well to be prepared for virtually anything that can or will come our way. A dual fuel generator {Propane/Gas} is much more desirable and practical than a single fuel Gas generator. Think shortages. My best wishes to all who were or are still affected by the latest Big Blow/ Bomb Cyclone.
Amazingly, I was expecting strong winds to blow from the storm, but it was pretty calm in the Mid-Willamette Valley. I still remember the Columbus Day Storm in 1962. I'm not sure anything will break that record any time soon in the way of windstorms.
Jefferson, Mason, and Thurston on the eastern side seem calm. Nothing major over the last few days I think the direction just keeps us sheltered, just some gusts and heavy rain but just in small spats.
At least Portland will see a break in the rain this afternoon to deal with all the leaves, that CinnaBOMB stripped my trees! 300+ still without power around Portland area, mostly in the hills.
The flash comes from when the wires cross each other, not a transformer blowing. Hope the crews can get power back to everyone soon, I know they are getting tired and may not have power on at their homes yet. Thanks for giving us an accurate weather forecast so we can be prepared.
It does look like that 1st storm is on track to get sucked back on track in the weather current for either a second hit on the coast or get sucked into the second storm and restrengthen either way.
Michael, the rain is more than welcome, but not the high winds. losing power and being without power at home for long, long hours is a real pain in the neck.
7:32 this storm dropped 8 inches in 2 days up here in the mountain area, oregon. Today? Dumping rain. There's little towns on both sides of this mountain. We're high desert. They, are flooding right now.
Michael, I have tried to understand the charts you show, but that is frustrated by the charts not having units on the "key". I am happy to gloss over or ignore the ECMWF/ NAM details, but they do seem to communicate systems of wind/rain/snow/wave height to some extent. But only with a "waving hand" type of detail. It is probably way beyond your ability to edit these works to make them comprehensible as they are probably originate far away by people who have decades of experience encrypting them and just "know" what they mean by decades of compressed/inferred/whatever!
Tropical Systems in the WESTERN Pacific Ocean are Typhoons, in the Eastern and Central Pacific Ocean they are Hurricanes. This storm is a Mid-Latitude Cyclone, or an extratropical system.
@ . I guess you can call them what you want . I spent 28 years of a very long career dealing with them in the western pacific . They are exactly the same animal what ever you like to call them and can be killers if not taken seriously.
Btw, your tree-on-fire shot made ABC Evening News last night
Start collecting his merch now, pretty soon we won't be able to afford it.

More likely a branch causing a dead short or arcing between phases due to the wind.

Just a general question really for you Michael regarding this storm and how it tracked and didn't make landfall. I'm wondering if you can explain why?
Hi Michael, I'm wondering what your favorite tools are for short term forecast data in the US? Does it depend on the region, season, etc?
Interesting that there's nick names for hurricanes 🌀 but none for cold cyclones 🌀
I am right there, no rain, or wind for days. Try Washington, southern Oregon coast not so much.
