@@idkidk8278 Yeah, don't know how else the cougar would be recognized. Sometimes other animals get known by ID markers, like eagles. Follow the Decorah eagles. D1 is typically recognized as the first offspring to have gotten a tracker. Her parents were known only as Dad Decorah and Mom Decorah. Those raised by the Wildlife Center of VA got known by initials that were band letters, like the well-known NX, NV and NZ. NX was treated twice so many knew her well. Only when that facility took in an animal on a permament basis owing to health making them non-releasable did they get names, like their resident eagle Buddy who needs beak coping continually to be able to eat on his own (he'd starve if he ever escaped). As such, it was appropriate that P-22 never got a full name unless he became a resident somewhere.

He was very old ( age 12 ) for a wild coiugar and was suffering from health issues as well as injuries from being hit by a car. Due ti his compromised health and abilities he was being forced into neighborshoods to try and score an easy meal of pets. He was too old and failing to be left in the wild any longer and humane euthanasia was the highest choice oir the old soldier. Relocating him woiuld have been disasterous as well as he, miost likely, would have ended uo tangling with anither male cougar iover terrirtory and possible killed by a yunger and stronger animal. Why relocation is nt done often and usually only with females, not males.

If they saved him from misery by killing him, that is one thing; but if they killed him for convenience, that is NOT acceptable. They could have driven him back to the mountains, even if he were to take the "perilous" trip back into town. At least, he would have had a Cougar's fighting chance to survive!!! I moved here in February 2021 from Chicago and The idea of mountain lions in urban areas is the most foreign thing to me, (Even the amount of coyotes we have here is new to me) but when I learned about P22 I was fascinated and enthralled. I even got to work on a TV production that took us to the museum of natural History overnight and I got to see the P22 exhibit in the basement a couple months later we heard that he was unwell, sent to the San Diego zoo and later euthanized. I'm so sad about his death but ultimately I'm so happy to live in a place that values native wildlife.
I think it would be cool if we had another Hollywood mountain lion, but the fact that they have such a small range in Griffith Park and have to cross so many freeways to get there also breaks my heart.
I'm excited to see what California is beautiful wildlife has to offer

We've lost 69 % of wildlife globally in just 50 years. 1/3 of all marine life. Rivers are drying up all over the world. Fish kills of millions of fish are happening where its never happened before in all the large rivers and their tributaries. Huge numbers of ruminates like deer, elk, and big horn sheep are dying due to CWD and EHD. By the time it takes you to read this, about 1 minute, another area of land, the size of 27 football fields has been destroyed. P-22 had it better than most, but still, even he couldn't escape.
