@@NorffMericaquite possibly @kdean8129 watches this expert to gain knowledge of hand loading and improving his rifle and hunting skills and yet still uses a bow to take game at 6’ and 10’ and enjoys the real thrill of a hunt by stalking his game to those distances. Most dedicated hunters have enough respect for the game to close the gap for a humane kill. A rifle shot at 6’ on a elk deer or moose will at most penetrate the .308 diameter hole maybe skin deep, burn some hair. If you’ve ever actually taken game you should know you cut the wound channel off of edible meat. We are not interested in taking pot shots at these majestic animals hoping to drop one so we can get that perfect video of us high fiving and hootin on a RUclips video just to boost our egos. It’s the love and passion of ethical hunting that drives dedicated hunters. Give it a try it’s a feeling you’ll never forget.

I enjoy hunting, but at the end of the day, I am there to fill the freezer. I DO kill big bucks, not as a trophy, as much as a Large mule buck has 3X the meat of a little mule buck.

What’s with the new concept that the 6.5 CM is superior to the 260 Rem because it encroaches less into powder space, when the .11” greater powder space of the 260 Rem. makes it a wash? For 140 gr. bullets, it’s a matter of using slightly faster powders in less case volume or slower powders compressed. The defense of the 260 Rem. isn’t really for retail shooters though, but it’s great for hand loaders who want to stay in the 308 Win. case family for supply security.

The safety on the Remington 660 could be moved to the “fire” position even when the bolt was not fully locked, resulting in potential accidental discharges. Remington initiated a recall for its Model 600, 660, and 700 rifles due to safety concerns, including the issues with bolt-locking mechanisms. You can contact Remington directly or visit their website to verify if your Remington 660 rifle has undergone the retrofitting process to address the safety concerns.

    • @Eggomania86
      @Eggomania86 8 месяцев назад

To me, Eld-x and SST bullets are essentially rebranded match bullets. They are meh to mediocre for a thin-skinned game such as deer and antelope. Said bullets dump their energy too quickly, in my opinion. The result is core and jacket separation they tend to fragment. If you go for a heart shot, frontal or quarter shot, or high shoulder shot and you hit bone, forget about it! Plan on tracking! Plan on going for a long hike! Mind you, I hunt Whitetails mainly. If you are patient, wait for that broad side behind the shoulder shot, said bullets will turn their internals into mush. If you are patient and you have good shot placement, said bullets can be effective on deer sized game. There is no exit wound. ELD-x and SST bullets are excellent for Varmints and predators. They are accurate bullets. I give them that. I wouldn't even attempt to use SST'S or Eld-x bullets on anything bigger than deer. We have wild boar and Black Bear, I prefer something that's tougher. I personally like Barnes and Nosler Partitions, For Bear and Hogs. With Elk, it's the same deal, usually with an elk sized game you want to roll with a heavier tough bullet. Our state of VA just started allowing hunters to hunt elk via a limited lottery system. For eastern woodlands, terrain long range for us isn't a thing. A hunter will have no problem killing an elk with a 30-06, which for woodlands range hunting is more than adequate. In the woods of VA, you can't see more than 150 yards. If you are hunting in a type of environment like me, you're 30-06 with a good 180gr Barnes TSX or Nosler Accubond or Partition is hard to beat for elk. Most folk hunt elk in western states. Ranges are longer. Don't shoot further than you are comfortable shooting. Know your limits. I can't emphasize that enough. I've worked with Hornady bullets before both SST and Eld-x. For game bullets, if you can call them that.. they are limited in what you can do with them. I've stopped using them because you don't always get that ideal broadside shot. I run mainly Partitions along with Federal fusion bullets for Whitetails these days. I still use the Eld-x for banging gongs and shooting whistle pigs and coyotes. Take it from me, choose a better bullet. There's nothing worse than having game getting away from you because of the bullet you choose to run. Don't believe the hype. Randy does an excellent job of telling the truth!

I was playing this on my phone without my ear buds in and my wife commented about how little this guy knows.
Ballistics and bullets have come a long ways in 40 year's, Randys grasp of ballistics is weak at best and obviously does not have actual experience. I test bullets for multiple companies specifically on elk. My 28 Nosler and 195 Berger hit 1000 yards with 2100 ft lbs of energy, not that its what killing them but one minute their grazzing and in 1.1 second flight time the lights are shut off, no elk running a round just one drops and the others feed off and we slip in and recover them. Thee ideal range to take elk calmly and efficently is in the 600-800 yard range. Ya, you do need to shoot a bullet that is not a ballistic brick.
I shoot how I do because its the cleanest way to kill and elk, no running around pushing elk all over the county just one clean shot and their cleanly killed, a clean ethical kill is why I don't care about the range just the best shot.
Huge Randy fan when it comes to wolves and grizz but killing elk, not so much.

I don't think anyone is buying a 6.5 PRC to shoot game at 1000 yards. Hunters know that theres hype and truth and its somewhere in the middle. I have 2 6.5 PRCs now havent shot the newest one yet, or hunted with the one I'm breaking in. By the numbers a factory 130 grain 6.5 mm at 3150, thats not a laughing matter at all. Thats the factory terminal ascent in my Bergara. Some rounds are close to 3200 fps. If the .264 win mag is sufficient for the range and the game...the 6.5 PRC is also. They are nearly identical.

Energy is not everything. A 2,500 pound car moving 5 mph has 2090 ft lbs kinetic energy. If that car could be elevated high enough to strike a large bull elk broad side at that velocity it might break some ribs but it’s not going to kill that elk. The average energy of a cross bow bolt could be anywhere from 100 to 150 ft lbs. Plenty energy for elk at appropriate range. 170 grain 30-30 Winchester or 200 grain 35 Remington has plenty of velocity and energy to take elk cleanly out to 200 yards. If you believe Randy those cartridges barely have enough energy to take an elk at 10 feet from the muscle. The only amount of energy required is enough to push the projectile through tissue and cause damage, hemorrhaging etc to vital organs. It’s putting a well constructed bullet at a reasonable velocity in the right spot that counts. Most folks probably can’t keep their shots in the kill zone at over 300 yards under real world hunting conditions. Cold, wind, rain, uncomfortable or awkward shooting positions, nerves (aka buck fever) all take their toll. Stop with the long range BS. Stop with the unscientific, non replicated studies BS about minimum energy requirements by two or three people over 60 years ago. Just talk to the thousands of hunters who’ve been doing it for decades at ethical distances with old cartridges that don’t have that magical minimum energy.

i like how Randy is better than anyone and just knows how to do everything , im not a fan of long range hunting , but rifles , bullets , powder and optics have evolved so very much , plus a nosler partition bullet is so out dated , lead tips and exposed lead base and they never weight the same . CNC copper bullets do what they say and are very uniformed , and by the way velocity KILLS not energy , if that were the case a 223 couldnt kill past a foot from your muzzle , I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE .

I watch your videos and love the wealth of knowledge you bring to the table, but think sometimes your videos come off like you are just hating on any cartridge that has been introduced in the last couple decades and doesn’t have at least 100gr of case capacity. However, can’t we agree that some of the newer cartridges that you frequently reference in your videos ARE suitable for big game hunting as long as standards and ethics are taken into account (aka using proper bullets at proper ranges

“1000 yards out of the box” is a company slogan like a million other companies have a slogan. It doesn’t mean you can effectively kill game at 1000yds because that’s caliber dependent, and requires a lot of practice and skill. Still most hunters are not even going to try at 1000yds regardless of who built their rifle. The slogan means you can ring a steel target at 1000yds right out of the box with custom ammo already tuned for that rifle. Other than that, I agree with you on inferior bullets, calibers with insufficient energy at certain distances, and people “pull n pray” shooting at a distance they have no business even attempting. There will always be fools in any hobby. Nothing we can do about that. However, there are a small percentage of shooters, with the right caliber, the right bullet, who know how to read wind, who can make those very long shots you complain about.

Alabama Ballistics has video of shooting a clay pigeon at a mile with a 300 prc, that's about the same size as a moose heart. That's like threading a needle at a mile. Anyone can find people shooting 375 cheytec and 416 Barrett at 3 and 4 miles. Technology in rifles, ammunition, scopes, and shooter skill is so far beyond this 1960s stuff it's unreal. Like cashis clay said about boxing "propeller was good for it's time, but it's the jet age". Just look at the changes in long range shooting since the turn of the century.

Out of all the rants and raves about long range and all the stories about how ethical you are and all the long range shots you have taken! Now you come out with a story about a 825yd shot on a big bull elk with a 12x scope and a guessed distance using sub tension reticle!! Hahaha come on old fella keep it real. The stories you tell about what you guys done back in the day are cool, but that was 60 years ago, all this talk about ballistics and shit it’s 2024 now mate you can literally find all the information you need for any circumstances with the simple press of a button, what you say about these companies that are selling long range rifles is 100% correct and unfortunately people buy into this shit and think they can go out and shoot long range is really unethical, I have a lot of mates that shouldn’t shoot past 300yds, the biggest problem is people don’t practice enough with there equipment and get real world data, that is the biggest problem!

    • @TheRealGunsmith

How many people put their mistakes, and admit them, out for the public to hiss on?
And gadgetry doesn't make a hunter. Even when used a person should know how to, literally, hunt. Not snipe, not rely on "just" gadgets, but on skill to hunt.

I believe alot of what keeps most people from using the nosler bullets is the price of there bullets!! There ABLR Accubond partiton and Etip are all over a dollar a bullet even for the small .22 cal bullets in the partiton!! You can buy the Hornady SST GMX now CX and there interlock for less than a dollar a bullet closer to 60 cents for some of those bullets Barnes bullets can be bought for less than a dollar a bullet Sierra and speer also offer bullets that are affordable!! If you going to be trying to shoot game at 4 or 500 yards you need to shoot your gun a lot to get good enough with that rifle to take those shots and if your going to shoot a lot with a hunting bullet to get ready for those shots no one wants to pay nosler prices to do all that shooting when they can buy a cheaper game bullet!! This is why Hornady ELD-X is so popular you can get 100 .30 cal eldx for less than you would pay for 50 partitions in the same .30 cal!! Look at any store sells reloading components 90% of the Hornady line of bullets is on the shelf in stock Barnes are on the shelf the rest of the brands are hit and miss. It makes it hard to shoot a rifle you can only find the bullets your shooting one or two times a year like you would if you were shooting nosler bullets!! I used to shoot noting but nosler bullets in all my rifles but they can’t keep up with demand. I like to shoot all year round and I have to shoot a bullet I can get any time I need them and are affordable enough to shoot and practice with so I don’t use nosler anymore!! I shoot barnes and Hornady interlock now!!
