When I saw "Bench-warmers" in theaters, there were outtakes at the end, and Jon Lovitz randomly repeated that line, and then busted out laughing, and said, "I'm sorry, I love that line!" and someone says "What's that from?" and he replies, "The Wedding Singer!" It was easily my favorite part of the movie, but when it came out, I saw it on a movie channel and there were no outtakes. I can't help wondering if they cut it BECAUSE of the reference, for legal reasons.
I can't believe you didn't remove sins for Sandler's song about Linda. (BUT IT ALL WAS BUUULLLLLSHIT!) I'm still obsessed with that song. It's perfect.
He obviously had a problem with Sandler singing as he mentioned it constantly. I still don't know why we didn't hear a clip from any song. Were they all not cleared for copyright? I thought just a snippet fell under fair use?
@@donnalynn2 The "snippets" on music are only a few seconds due to YT algorithms (if it is monetized). Music is treated overly harsh for copyright. It causes a lot of problems for creators like this.

I loved the part where, in the bar, Sammy said he just wanted somebody to hold him and tell him that everything's going to be all right, and the old man hugs him and says "everything's going to be all right." So hilarious and sweet! Actually, all of the old man's lines were gold.
@@raydonahue1978 my point is that the sin was s saying “microphone wire” as opposed to using the correct term “microphone cable”. Wire is a single conductor and cable is multiple conductors. As mics use between 2-3 conductors this would make the length between a mic and it’s plug a cable by definition.
The Wedding Singer is the only Adam Sandler movie I enjoyed. He actually did a pretty decent job parodying the 80's. Also helped that he and Drew Barrymore had good chemistry together; her presence definitely helped.
I graduated high school in 89 so this film touched me in every way except Drew Barrymore's hair. I never saw one person with hair like that. But everything else was just spot on. Whenever I want to relive my glory days I watch it. Such a well done movie.
@@dottemar6597 I fully agree with what you're saying . I mean Stranger Things interpretation of the eighties was just sad. There was literally only 1% of my school that atually looked this way. @@COEYRN I wore mostly black in the 80's LOL. I certainly didn't wear "popular" clothes. Not to mention I was poor. I just hate when movies/tv try to brush a decade as if everyone dressed like that. Those who liked Rock/metal did not dress like that.
Didn't she immediately say "He'll be a good looking old guy" when she brought up wanting to grow old with a guy? Pretty sure that's why they didn't remove a sin; she took the wholesome statement and made it very superficial.

There are so many movies that have continuity errors and I spot a lot while watching. This and the ridiculous over the top unrealistic storylines can easily ruin a movie for me. I still watch but have to wonder why studios cannot seem to overcome these avoidable mistakes. Do they not hire anyone to check the movie for these easy to spot issues?
@@unsuckified3192 actually that's a job, usually it's listed as just "continuity" I think. But I'm guessing there's not much of a job requirement there, since most people SUCK at it...
@@DOSkywalkR I'd have an easy time with it because I notice at least one in almost all movies and shows. Easily find 4 or 5 in most. Camera quickly changes angles and a person is standing in a different spot/angle or looking a different direction. Items in the background move, ties are tighter/looser, buttons unbuttoned, etc. It is over the top some times.
I just remember being 8 or 9 years old and noticing it.. to this day no matter how this movie has aged I just think about going through my mom's closet before Christmas and seeing the wedding singer VHS and being excited for Christmas to finally watch it
This is my favorite movie, partially because after I saw this when I was 11, I got majorly obsessed with the 80s for a good 5 years or so, buying 80s mixes and things. I just have to point out one mistake you made, at the wedding he sings at after he's left at the alter, he's not singing "Celebrate", but "Holiday" by Madonna. Also I gotta say, as much as it sucks that you can't play the real music, I really liked the music you played over some of the scenes. Also also, fun fact, at the beginning when we flash back to George, and a guy yells "YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!" ... Go back and listen closely. It's actually Chris Farley. One of the last things he recorded before he passed away. Final note, about George, Alexis Arquette was Trans in real life (RIP), but no idea if they were/people knew at the time. But before they died, Adam had the charicter back for Blended, but now listed as Gorgenia. So I don't think anything was meant to be hateful, and that inclusion proves it, imo.
@@chocolatefudgebrowni3225 possibly for the same reason you misspelled " word" unless it was done on purpose... Then well played good sir Also also that person might be from a different country and that is how they spell it?
I had never known that about Alexis Arquette so I looked them up and actually saw that before dying they actually identified closer to Gender Fluid [or "Gender suspicious" as their brother said it was] due to saying something they felt male and other times female. Which I think is kind of interesting because I hadn't known that before. Also I think a lot of older movies are just a sign of their time - a lot of humor I grew up with in the 90s sure as hell doesn't fly today - but no one really called it offensive humor even if we would now. Heck sometimes I see movies I haven't since they came out and I'm like "MAJOR YIKES - this was hella offensive" ... but I remember at the time not feeling the same. So it's possible that you're right, it was not meant to be hateful, it was meant as a joke that going forward was changed [i.e for Blended]. A lot of humor that is labeled hateful and insensitive and offensive now wasn't at the time and a lot of the comedians who used it at the time [if they are/were decent people] wouldn't use it now. Also that Chris Farley line is a nice piece of Trivia I never knew.
his line is "I've never seen them perform from this perspective before" so chances are he has seen other singers perform but he's always been backstage or off to the side, never in the audience.

Yeah, I know it's a contrived romantic comedy that uses much the same tropes as every other romantic comedy out there, but I actually quite liked it. And it's one of Adam Sandler's best movies to boot (although it's not exactly a high bar). I think what makes it is the chemistry he has with Drew Barrymore, you get a genuine sense that they really do like each other. Plus Drew's acting chops really sell her character in places, such as the subtle changes in her facial expressions when she finds out Adam is on the plane

Turns 25! Adam Sandler in one of his better comedies This signaled a shift in Sandler's career and foretold that more interesting material was on the horizon It’s relatively lighthearted and fun, and it deals with relatable, real-world themes such as heartbreak, depression, and romantic love Sandler plays a thoroughly depressed character throughout the bulk of the film Sandler as Robbie and Barrymore as Julia exude cute, wholesome energy which is why they make such a great pair Their chemistry is adorable Sandler can do more than just cheap laughs but can be very dramatic too The music is very stellar too as we see Robbie draw from the hits of the era to reveal his emotional state throughout the film whether happy or sad or depressed ‘Wedding Singer’ is decidedly uneven and sappy but the film was a box-office hit and even spawned a Broadway musical spin-off Not to mention it reintroduced viewers to 1980s fashion From big hair to bright makeup, the film is riddled with homages to one of fashion’s most over-the-top eras Doesn’t exactly capture the 1980s but acts as a love letter to it, after all this is intended to be a nostalgic smorgasbord, not an accurate account, and much of the film’s appeal comes from picking out a favorite reference or a nostalgic bit most might be familiar with Regardless it feels comforting to turn back to a film like this that focuses on a more innocent time in pop culture where things just might work out and a nice guy and girl can finish first Still remains sweet and affecting after all this time

I love how it's only set in 1985 so they can make all sorts of jokes about those wacky 80's! It's a little like "The Goldbergs", in that way! Funnily enough, they actually paid homage to this movie in one episode. 😂
According to the dates used in the movie, it's actually set in 1984. Julia's wedding is mentioned to be on Sunday, August 5th which would be correct for 1984, but not for 1985 where August 5th fell on a Monday.

I'm giving common sense a sin here: - it's ok to play video clips from movies - it's ok to play audio clips from one movie onto a video clip of another movie - but somehow, it's not ok to play the audio of a song from any movie? 🤨
No, it’s perfectly legal and falls under fair use (if it’s short enough). The recording studios just don’t care and claim copyright infringement anyway, then RUclips strikes the channel and gives all the money to the studios, and if you want to fight it you’ll have to hire a lawyer which will cost you thousands of dollars. So the studios are just using the cost of the legal system to silence fair use
@@tomduckworth6430 Yes you're right about it being legal but yt doesn't care as you've said. it sucks! yt knows better but they don't care one bit. It's like with the DMCA- you have the right to create back-ups of your digital media (movies, audio, etc.), but you don't have the right to break the encryption the studios put on said media which prevents you from making a copy.
@@tomduckworth6430 I’m going to be pedantic and point out that the Fair Use doctrine is not a law, but rather a defense one can use if they get sued by a copyright holder. Claiming that something falls under Fair Use won’t stop a company from initially taking action on your content.
Really hoped the audio outtakes were going to include Robbie saying “i haven’t done anything since high school” and then the bit from Disney’s The Kid: “I grow up to be a loser!!” That said, so glad the outtakes are back in the video!

There were non-stop flights from Newark(which is most likely where Robbie/Julia/Glenn would fly from if they're from Ridgefield, NJ) to Vegas in the 80's. And the exterior shots don't show a 747. L-1011 or DC-10 maybe but not a 747. There are only 2 engines on the plane so that rules out 747.

acutely liviticus 28:19 is about how you should not harm your self. the verse is "You shall not make gashes in your flesh for the dead, or incise any marks on yourselves"
@8:00 No, the Miami Vice influence did not last until 1989. Not past 1986, really. A huge problem with The Wedding Singer is that it tries to cram every early 80s pop-culture reference into that one week of .... 1985 (I think that's what it is supposed to be). A rubik's cube? In 1985? No. Rubik's cubes were done in 1981. And it talks about Who Shot JR. Which was 1980, for pete's sake. And the Miami Vice soundtrack wasn't released until later (Glen is listening to the Miami Vice theme in the car at the club and it wasn't released until later). Der Kommisar is really more like 1982, and wouldn't be on the radio in 1985. The only good actual pop culture reference was the New Coke controversy, which was in the summer. But all they have is like a Johnny Carson joke about it on the radio. There is a whole analysis of the timing of the pop culture references in the movie here ruclips.net/video/L5EYz4tN1VA/видео.html
Look, I know that this movie doesn't make any sense at all, but also, it makes perfect sense. This was a really good movie, imo. I feel lucky that I was able to enjoy it growing up. I'm happy that cinemasins reviewed it.
At least it's better than "50 First Dates" where Sandler makes jokes about a serious physical and mental health disorder and makes the woman feel guilty about having it in the first place. People get mad at John Hughes, but Adam Sandler is the king of making films that do not age well.
@@StephenLeGresley what? when does he try to make her feel guilty for having her problem? there's a point when he doesn't fully understand and wishful thinking that things were different, but the movie was about him learning it was what it was and hik accepting that and dealing with it because he loved her and HOPING every day she would love him every single day...
@@agonleed3841 he breaks up with her because she won't remember him as if she has any say in the matter whatsoever. The whole movie paints her condition as a burden for Sandler and everyone else around her and when it's not doing that ti;'s using her condition as comedy.

I love how you not only made up a scripture but checked the Bible to make sure there was no Leviticus 28 (it ends at 27) I knew it was a made-up verse but was curious if there was a scripture there and if you had just added your own. Cute As far as the dancing, that guy appeared to be doing a breakdancing move or something kinda like it. I am no breakdancing expert, but I was a teenager in the 80s and yes, when you got on the floor to do moves, people would step aside to watch. I know this is not a normal place for breakdancing, but it moved from urban areas to the upper society kids. It really caught on back then.
3:45 I remember those "REAL" instant mashed potato mix boxes. I'm sinning myself for recognizing that box, and the movie for having a box of instant mashed potato mix sitting out on the counter with the wedding cake.
I never realized this movie was so lame lol. Thanks for ruining one of my favorite movies. I'm totally kidding. I always knew it was lame, but I liked it the first few times I watched it.😂 Billy Madison was probably my favorite Adam Sandler movie. Now I want to watch Everything Wrong with Billy Madison.😂 I liked Billy Madison so much, because it brings me to my "Happy Place".
"I Wanna Grow Old With You" is my pick for the greatest love song ever written. It doesn't focus on sex, beauty, or attraction, things that fade with time, but instead focuses on the mundane, everyday occurrences that a married couple shares and puts value in all of them. THAT is true love. And the song was written by Adam Sandler. What reality do we even live in?
Yes. That is how weddings work. Pew decorations are at the aisle. Guests are seated on the sides. The only people going down the aisle is the wedding party. This should be 1000 sins for a “Jeremy talks like he knows something, but is completely clueless” cliche.
Then it's a sin that it makes it hard for people to get to their seats during the wedding. And no weddings ive been to (even the ones in churches) have done that.
@@RBGolbat well sorry to say three sins on you. One for thinking it would be hard to get to your seat. One for whomever u know that doesn’t know how to wedding properly. One for trying defend and clearly failing. Since the original sin was that he doesn’t know what he is talking and I explained proper wedding etiquette already.

@@kylekennedy3299 What's your point? Microphones with a wire/cable were pretty common in the '80s.
@@raydonahue1978 my point is that the sin was s saying “microphone wire” as opposed to using the correct term “microphone cable”. Wire is a single conductor and cable is multiple conductors.

Sandler's version of 'You spin me right round' is a really good cover

All your sins are valid, but this movie is solid gold. Gen X is grateful for this spoof.
I'm sorry but how is "character" the only world you misspelled ?
You would be excellent with boring people at Cinema Sins!
@@chocolatefudgebrowni3225 also wrote "alter" instead of "altar."
@@chocolatefudgebrowni3225 possibly for the same reason you misspelled " word" unless it was done on purpose... Then well played good sir
Also also that person might be from a different country and that is how they spell it?
6:26 glorious use of references. NO ONE ever talks about Bulletproof!
14:26 Speaking of happily ever after and Drew Barrymore... you should do Ever After!
That move is without sins, but I'm sure he'll find some anyway, lol
his line is "I've never seen them perform from this perspective before" so chances are he has seen other singers perform but he's always been backstage or off to the side, never in the audience.

Turns 25!
Adam Sandler in one of his better comedies
This signaled a shift in Sandler's career and foretold that more interesting material was on the horizon
It’s relatively lighthearted and fun,
and it deals with relatable, real-world themes such as heartbreak, depression, and romantic love
Sandler plays a thoroughly depressed
character throughout the bulk of the film
Sandler as Robbie and Barrymore as Julia exude cute, wholesome energy which is why they make such a great pair
Their chemistry is adorable
Sandler can do more than just cheap laughs but can be very dramatic too
The music is very stellar too as we see Robbie draw from the hits of the era to reveal his emotional state throughout the film whether happy or sad or depressed
‘Wedding Singer’ is decidedly uneven and sappy but the film was a box-office hit and even spawned a Broadway musical spin-off
Not to mention it reintroduced viewers to 1980s fashion
From big hair to bright makeup, the film is riddled with homages to one of fashion’s most over-the-top eras
Doesn’t exactly capture the 1980s but acts as a love letter to it, after all this is intended to be a nostalgic smorgasbord, not an accurate account, and much of the film’s appeal comes from picking out a favorite reference or a nostalgic bit most might be familiar with
Regardless it feels comforting to turn back to a film like this that focuses on a more innocent time in pop culture where things just might work out and a nice guy and girl can finish first
Still remains sweet and affecting after all this time
"Linda, you a bitch"!!! It's on Netflix last time I checked. I absolutely love this movie!!!

I was coming to the comment section to post basically the same thing. Friend in college somehow always ended up with a circle of people around him while he did some wild dance moves.
You: “That’s a terrible name for a song”

I love how it's only set in 1985 so they can make all sorts of jokes about those wacky 80's! It's a little like "The Goldbergs", in that way! Funnily enough, they actually paid homage to this movie in one episode. 😂
Paid homage, inserted itself into the movie because the same studio made both. Potato, potato.
According to the dates used in the movie, it's actually set in 1984. Julia's wedding is mentioned to be on Sunday, August 5th which would be correct for 1984, but not for 1985 where August 5th fell on a Monday.
It's funny because I don't even think 90s fashion had much of an identity until the mids. Before that, it was just trying to be the warmed over 80s before windbreakers and ripped clothes became a trend.
@@jaski2346 If that is the case, it really messes up things that weren't happening then. Like Miami Vice, which didn't premiere until Sept 16, 1984. Even calling it 1985 is dicey with some things.

How could you not remove a sin for Jon Lovitz closing the curtain? That scene is just so weird and funny in a way that only classic Adam Sandler movies could do. So like, the first 2, and this one sorta had a taste of it with that scene. But it was a great scene. The way the curtain closes on its own without him seeming to move a muscle. I dunno why, it just gets me every time. You know they had to have had a little stage hand crouched under Jon with a hook to pull the curtain shut for him.

@@truthspreader1996 I think that depends on whether the ring was given to the other woman

@@truthspreader1996 well, yeah. If the other person never finds out, then no big deal. My original statement was based on personal experience, though. My wife had been engaged to someone else, but then the wedding never happened. She had already bought the dress and wasn't sure if she should use the same dress. I told her that I didn't have a problem with it. I'm giving common sense a sin here:
- it's ok to play video clips from movies
- it's ok to play audio clips from one movie onto a video clip of another movie
- but somehow, it's not ok to play the audio of a song from any movie?
🤨
Record companies suck
@@Wiccanwolf08 it’s a common law. Meaning it is made through tradition and court rulings rather than legislation. Doesn’t make anything I said wrong

No, the Miami Vice influence did not last until 1989.
There is a whole analysis of the timing of the pop culture references in the movie here
