*complains that people don't follow directions on cleaners* Completely misses the "For old neglected leather, use interior cleaner prior to application" on Griots *then proceeds to complain that Griots Garage cleaner took 10 minutes to work*
Right. The Meguiars isn’t a leather conditioner/protectant. It is a dedicated cleaner and a leather conditioner/protectant will need to be used afterward.
Meguires and Lexol both make great products. Not sure about the Meguires ingredients for long term effect on leather. I definitely trust Lexol since they only do leather. With the Lexol it is recommend to use a non-cellulose sponge which eliminates the problem with cloth absorption and drag. Thanks for the comparison.
All good information. After watching the cleaning technique, I cleaned mine with diluted Dawn dish soap and a scrubbing dish rag, removing all residue quickly with little effort. Looks brand new. I plan to follow up with a leather balm to protect the finish.
I just did the exact same thing this video showed with the Meguiar's and my leather steering wheel started peeling off, so now my steering wheel looks worst. Thank you.
Lol what a jokester first of all your story is not even believable. But even if you did apply any of the cleaner and your steering wheel leather flaked off, you have nobody to blame but yourself you can't blame other people because you neglected your steering wheel and you failed to administer proper maintenance to your own car and keep it in good condition. If your steering wheel got to that point it must have been just really bad such that no cleaner is going to help.
@@carbuying thanks for the advice but I had already used the magic eraser & Meguires' a couple of weeks ago and had good results. The amount of dirt & grime on a steering wheel & shifter after 24 years was incredible even after I thought I had been meticulous over the years of keeping everything clean and good appearance. The magic eraser with a bit of Meguires' was completely black and it wasn't from the dye used in the leather. But thank you anyways for your comment. 😊
I’m just curious because I just acquired a truck with a pretty gross leather steering wheel but would using a fine brush make a difference in the cleaning process? I just bought 2 of the products you’re using so I’m going to give them go in the next few days…
For simply cleaning a filthy steering wheel use soapy water. A couple drops of dawn dish soap in some water. The Meguiars is a dedicated cleaner. It isn’t a conditioner or protectant. So you will still need to use a conditioner/protectant afterward. For filthy leather like the steering wheel it works well to use a cleaner first. If the leather isn’t filthy it’s much easier to just use a good leather 3 in 1.
10:25 - Wow, the guy's wife is choking in the background but he just keeps going on that steering wheel. 🤣 BTW, maybe try a simple mix of Dawn soap and water in a spray bottle. Very little soap is needed. I bet you'll find it cleans just as well and easily as the Meguiars. Follow of with leather conditioner of course.
I think cloth being very dry may not be helping, slightly damp might be better. some nice hot water would do a good job without damaging leather in any way
Well yes and no, because the same dry cloth worked perfectly for the Meguiars. so it appears that the Meguiar's is a wetter liquid than the other two leather cleaners.
Dude soaked the wheels and utilized multiple application in terry cloth for Meguires but utilized lexol and griots only on the cloth and not applying the applications on the steering wheel as well, just like meguires. Biased review?! .
No, it doesn’t say it anywhere but at the end of using the 3 cleaners it just shows the entire steering wheel completely BLACK and shiny almost as if was a brand new wheel, that’s the deceiving part, bet you the next morning there was a line at the Autoparts store waiting for the store to open.
nice spraying the dash lol, not following the instructions on the cleaners, meguiar has a dedicated leather cleaner and the leather balm should not be used on the steering wheel it makes it slippery and have a gross shinny look. 🤦♂Check out a proper detailing steering wheel tutorial by Pan the organizer for example or Ammo.
@@carbuying for example last second of applying griot's (7:31) wheel is still in very bad condition. Then that part of the wheel is not seen till 10:02, at that point we realize the wheel is just like new, something way more than cleaning.
@@beratsadkoglu7375 LOL another conspiracy theory troll. We mentioned in the video it took us 12 minutes to clean off that section with the Griot's garage at the bottom, so we did not make you sit through 12 minutes of us wiping it down. We showed you the Lexol section and stated it was similar to the Griot's section. If you'd like to sit back and watch a 12 minute video using Griot's Garage leather cleaner on a steering wheel we'll be happy to make that video for you. Painted steering wheel? YOU are definitely the April fool. You don't paint steering wheels. Also you never watched the video like a troll never does. If you look at the shifter at 12:20 it was in the same bad condition and there you can see us spray it with Meguiars, and wipe it down and got it nice and clean afterwards.

FYI the link takes you to a 16oz bottle for $14.99. I just pick it up at autozone for just under $8. Big difference
Going to buy meguiar’s tomorrow! Didn’t think it was possible to bring back my steering wheel but this has me optimistic!
How did it go on your steering wheel Dguti?
Did you get your steering wheel clean with the Meguiars?

Thanks for sharing!
Bottom line forst app use Maguires after that apply Groits

My whole life I've thought the gray was peeled off leather, not grime that just wipes off. 🤦♂️
Awesome, now you can make your car look showroom new again!
carbuyingtipscom For sure! Thanks so much for the video.
Same omg. I’m about to go buy some and start scrubbing
SAME!!!
bro u not alone i thought the same thing im gonna clean it up now
Thanks for the very informative video. I like to use Meguiar's products.
I've been using Meguiars since 1998!
Thank you!
Thank you! 👍 I'm going to clean a 2003 Avalon for my wife now.

Used the Meguires' cleaner with a generic brand magic eraser ( these things are awesome) that I purchased at the dollar store. Very happy!
Just be careful about the cleaners and chemicals that might be in the magic eraser.

That's make-up residue! I've been in IT for 26 years and I've seen Keyboards and Mice with that same film. And they were all from women's offices.
Does it work with white/light colored leather steering wheel?
Any material leather or color
Zymol Leather Cleaner is my choice!
The steering wheel is true?? Recocer it??
Everything you saw in the video is true, we really recovered it.

Lexol makes a spray as well.
We should try that one sometime

Tap Water leaves black dots on leather products. You won't see it because it's black. You would have to use distilled water

Seemed like it.
I love lexol, it’s my favorite and it’s the only leather cleaner I use
Yes, all 3 of these do a great job, but the Meguiars was the easiest and fastest to use in this case.
There’s also a wipe version of the meguiar! Will it work the same?
Yes, we use the Meguiars Wipes also, they are fantastic when you don't want to spray on certain areas.

I hate it when my steering wheel falls in a puddle of mud. 🙄. That car is so nasty
That’s not how you would apply lotion conditioner.
Done by the instructions, so tell the manufacturers they are wrong
Dude, you should wash your hands before you drive your Benz
