Im actually looking at both right now. Been saving up for boots to where outside of work. I own the moc with a safety toe at work. I just cant get over how timeless the iron rangers look
Completely agree, truly apples and oranges. I’m lucky, in addition to other trivial stuff, I get to decide which Moc Toes and which IR’s I’ll wear that day. Again, thanks for the review! 🤓
I have to disagree with many of the points you make in your video. The vibram mini lug is not the reason many people have issues with the iron ranger, it’s a lack of a leather midsole. The moc-toe does not have a crepe sole, it’s the vibram cristy wedge sole. Red wing only used a crepe sole on the red wing rovers and a few other variants. Lastly, it seems like you have only worn those boots like some two dozen times. It’s hard to review something with very little wear.
@@StrayReviewsis just that i have the RT3 Arizona captains and i enjoy the comforting of the width. So i wonder if the iron rangers are similar. But thanks for the reply!
I don't like the clownish toe cap on the Iron Ranger, so I got Blacksmiths. Same boot, no toe cap. Also have a pair of 1907s. I prefer the smiths. Oh, protip for breaking them in - duct tape around your leg where the boot rubs it, and I use some on the tops of my toes until the leather softens up a bit. Really helps.
My next boots are either the Mac Toe or Work Chukkas, I have a pair of Thursday Captins which seem a lot like teh Iron Ranger (at least in looks) I was in MN last week and made the obligatory trip to Mall of America and I was shocked there was not a RedWing or Duluth Trading at teh Mall. Seems like two iconic MN brands would be set up in the Mall. Although I did visit the LL Bean store which was very cool
The moc toe pricing seems to be more inconsistent the iron ranger depending on the colour. Having the 8111 & 8849 the iron ranger you get more in terms of versatility, you can pass it off with chinos slightly. But the moc is more comfortable in all day on your feet. Both are great boots & recommend them.
Thanks for the video. I see it as impossible to narrow this decision down to only one winner, regardless of the metrics used. Both great boots, but with the colors, looks, a tough tough call. IMO, you’ve given yourself an really hard task.
Own both... will give the slightest and slimmest advantage to the IRs if I had to choose 1. You can dress up/dress down an IR. Hard to pull off a dressed up look on the MTs.
‘Comfort’ is such a weird thing. With sneakers it’s the squish, padding, and shock absorption. With boots usually it’s how do they mold and conform to your feet with none of the sneaker criteria. My iron rangers fit and conformed and felt like nothing else yet hurt my knees and feet to the point i got rid of them. Just an odd subjective thing i guess.
@@StrayReviews Sorry for my rude attitude. Crepe is what you find on shoes like desert boots. The wedge sole that Red Wing uses isn't that, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't. Anyway, I was rude. Sorry.
Do you own both? Which one is your favorite?
@@Coleone139 Those sound awesome! “Goldy Mocs” 😂

I’d say the Iron Rangers are more versatile too. Both are great boots.

Thanks William! Never hurts to have multiples. 🥾🥾🥾

Do you know if the iron rangers are wide as the RT3 Thursday boots?
Great question. I'd say they're similar in width but don't hold me to that. 👍

It’s like choosing which of your kids you like better. lol. I have multiple pairs of both and love them all.
Very nice! Both great boots.

Duct tape = great idea! I haven’t heard that one before.
I like my Blacksmith boots too. Glad I chose them over the IR's.

No Red Wing store at Mall of America? I’m surprised by that.
I had 4-5 captains, iron rangers- once footbed molds is way more comfortable than Thursday boots. I sold them all after getting iron rangers.
@@ravishdubey8829 Nice. It's hard to beat a nice slab of veg-tanned leather.

It’s much easier to just own both. 😂

The good thing about owning both is that we don't have to decide. 😁

Stop saying crepe sole. This is not a crepe sole. Buy a dictionary.
Apparently the Classic Moc sole was made from crepe rubber at some point but no longer is. My info was old.
