  • Living in Canada lots of my vanlife is spent during the very cold winter - since I began my nomadic journey I have relied on Flooded Batteries to power my tiny home. LiTime (formerly know as Amperetime) reached out to me and offered me a 200Ah LiFePo4 Lithium Battery - how will it hold up to the harsh weather conditions? #LiTime #LiTimepower #PowerUpWithLiTime

My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!
Be Happy, Be Creative, Be Yourself and BE POSITIVE!

It doesn't hurt to keep the flooded batteries and the new battery. Redundancy is a good thing when you are trying to live off grid. Also I was thinking a bit of heat tape wrapped around the exhaust for the diesel heater to keep it from getting covered in ice and freezing closed.

I just got a Keurig for Christmas. It's been my favorite thing ever. I get the store brand coffee in 100% biodegradable pods. There is no cup to it. But all the parts can be thrown in a mulch pile. Those pods are easier on the machine. Not as much pressure to close the lid. It is suggested that with the cups, to push the cup into the machine and pierce the cup. Then it takes less pressure on the handle. The only part that gets thrown out is the wrapper.

Nice final spot with the drone 😉 Good overview with the LiTime battery. I love my LiFePO4 battery - although I wish I did start with a 200Ah instead of the 100Ah I have. Have you gotten it to 100% yet? Does your BT-1 give you battery temp vs. controller temp? Is the ducting working at keeping it above 0C? Could I ask any more questions? I guess a great product review would lead to a gaggle of questions...I'm just glad it can handle your large, yet brief, power requirements for your morning cup-a-joe. Have you tried charging your Vitoman with just solar through the LiFePO4 battery? So many tests...
I think you will really find the benefits with the LiFePO4 but be ready for those "fun educational times" when your charge controller alarm goes off because the settings are off...yeah, I made my own profile too🤦‍♀ nice to get those learning experiences though and the confidence you get when you can solve the issue on your own. Good job!

So happy to see you got LiFePO4. These batteries will last you way longer than the Flooded lead acid will. You will actually only get about 30% of the flooded battery that will take you down to 12.2 vdc, especially in cold weather. I have two 100ah heated Battleborn batteries in my van.... let me tell you, you can run what ever you want, depending on the inverter of course. I run a 1500 watt inverter and I run a microwave, toaster oven, truckfridge, propex heater, I charge my Jackeries, like you mentioned you charge your power station. I have a 50 amp DC to DC charger and have 400 watts of portable solar panels that I can deploy.....and I don't think I've ever been down to even 60%, even after 3 days camping with no input of any kind.....

Not a lithium expert by any means but the max discharge rate that Ampire Time rates that battey at is 100A or 1,280 W. I hope you don't have issues running your 2,000 wat inverter but it could trip the BMS. During your Keurig test your shunt was showing almost 1,900 wats which is +50% above the battery discharge rate. The max discharge rate is for sustained use and the Keurig only runs for a short time so you might be fine, but checking in with Ampere Time might be a good idea. Cheers on the channel I only recently subscribed and have just caught up by binge watching. I hope your back/leg is feeling better soon, I have had intermittent sciatica for years, it aint fun.

We have 2 x 100 AH Ampere Time for almost a year. They are great. They store them at 60 to 80% capacity. This is the temperature range. Charge: 0℃ to 50℃; Discharge: -20℃ to 60℃ so you only really need to worry about charging when it's cold, below 0 degrees. So add a cutoff to the charge circuit, solar, DC to DC etc.

Drilling some drain holes in the heater exhaust, may help, drill a hole in muffler, and before the muffler in a not so steep area👌

Matt that is a 200ah, 2.56kwh battery, meaning 200amps for 1 hour or 1 amp for 200 hours or any math between. what you want to check right away is the cables from the battery to the inverter for heat/temperature. Your meter showed 156 amp draw at 12v which is 12v x 156amp = 1884 watts +/- depending on battery voltage. Make sure the wire from the Battery to the Inverter is large enough to handle the current flow. You probably need a 1/0 or preferably a 2/0 size wire to handle that much heat. The ampacity charts show a 2/0 wire will handle up to 175 amps at 75*C. lithium-ion and lithium iron phosphate or lifepo4 are different battery chemistry.

Just letting you know and trying to improve your You Tube sharing stuff. I still find you interesting to watch. You are different than most that do van life videos. It might be your or the cats {I love cats}. I found this one to be interesting because of the lithium batteries. You still remind me of Jim Cary. I live in the south and the snow is fun to see. Keep up the good work!

Love my lithiums! They are good for people like me, not used to maintaining things like batteries. Glad you were asked to test one as always good when a nice guy gets a freebie.

Matt - make sure that you never charge it when it is below its minimum temperature. It will kill the battery. Hopefully it has built in protection otherwise you should consider adding external protection. Maybe the vendor can advise on this. Good news about the batterh though. It is the type of lithium chemistry that does not explode. 😊

When the review RUclipsrs get these batteries they crack them apart and test the BMS for overcharge temp and low temp cut off. As well the rated Wh vs the true capacity of the battery. Very interesting information

My 2 cents: the heater throwing an error code on the lowest setting could mean you have a compromised seal at one of your fuel line connections. Also, the soft fuel hose that comes with the CDH's isn't ideal. Hard nylon fuel hose is better, especially upstream of the fuel pump.

I use straight up lithium ion cells welded together lol. the entire system is makeshift, something I've never heard of but its what i did dual buck converters gets me 30 amps charging to a 3s 11.1 nominal, 12.6 fully charged. 65 amp hour pack, i have a temperature controlled relay that turns on a heating pad and the battery is fully insolated, when the van is in storage it maintains 2 celcius, when I head out I set it to 20 and works like a charm. its just a minivan powering a diesel heater and some other things for weekend adventures. I've been holding off making a walkthrough of the van because its beta but I have been uploading my current adventures, I kinda regret not getting an astrovan or express. Oh im from calgary too. hmm, my battery is about 800 watt hours and it only weighs about 8 pounds. and my ebike battery has an adaptor that bumps that up to 1900 watt hour in 20 pounds of battery when i bring my bike that battery seem heavy! lol
