    You should probably have included the fact that rapid is the way to go. If you're specifically talking in terms of self-improvement then fast-paced blitz and bullet are horrible as rating gain induces a lot of dopamine and that will soon be the only reason you're even playing chess. trust me I'm rapid 2100 and blitz 2000 and rapid by far is the best.

      Oh yeah I agree man, should've prefaced with that. Classical OTB is the best for this which is mostly what I mean but u are correct for sure

      @maehy 6 месяцев назад +1

      Yet online rapid is not much better in that regard. The only way to really avoid the stuff you talked about is classical over the board 90+30 chess, where there's also a much stronger mental endurance factor, as games can take up to four hours.

      @@maehy At the end of the day, chess is still a board game and not many people would probably have 2-3 hours to dedicate towards it per day.

      If you play like 1 in person classical Game a week then that's pretty reasonable

    I love Chess. You can also go on a self improved journey by playing a board game called Baduk.

      @@ChessCenturion Baduk is an abstract strategy board game for two players in which the aim is to capture more territory than the opponent by fencing off empty space. The game was invented in China more than 2,500 years ago and is believed to be the oldest board game continuously played to the present day.[1][2][3][4][5] A 2016 survey by the International Go Federation's 75 member nations found that there are over 46 million people worldwide who know how to play Go, and over 20 million current players, the majority of whom live in East Asia.[6]

    The whole video games not being conducive to personal development argument to me just sounds like they are playing the wrong games. Nobody is forcing you to play space pinball, picking that over something more complicated/stimulating is a choice that you yourself have made. It's like going to an art gallery that has all the art anybody in the world has ever made and spending all your time looking at the scratchings schoolchildren do on their desks.

      Very valid point, I guess the counterargument is that it's all virtual and therefore a waste of time but then you could extend that logic to things like football or any kind of sport which would be a bit stupid
