- I traveled to Fountain Hills, AZ to compete in the #JavelinaJundred, a 100 mile Ultra-Trail World Tour event. The result was not what I was looking for (dropped out after 52 miles), but it was a great wake-up call--I need to start training for the trails and the distance! I was fortunate to walk away from the race injury-free and motivated for the next challenge!

ABOUT: In February I left my tech job in Silicon Valley to follow my true passion of #running.* The Mocko Show intends to chronicle my triumphs and struggles as I attempt to balance my pursuit in running and full-time employment as a product manager in tech.
*I've since returned to the tech world, but with a renewed vigor to pursue both careers at the highest level!
OMG. The question part was HILARIOUS!
Your parents are adorable, and a reminder of why my mom will never crew me. I also had a "maybe I'm not cut out for this" moment after my last 100. I think the reason we do them is because they're so hard. Keep your chin up.
Chris! You are the man! Keep your head up! Thanks for sharing your experience. Always look forward to the Mocko show.
OMG I LOVE your folks!!! All those questions! It's clear she loves you very much and cares very much!
Papa Mocko and Momma Mocko are adorable!
The Arizona desert heat destroys the dreams of even the best runners and you had a fantastic run to be honest. You might not have done the entire distance but for the distance you did complete, you did it well. Hopefully, you'll come back next year and give it another shot.
Chris thanks for being so transparent about your struggles. As a runner in an area without any other mut runners, your videos have been a huge inspiration as I've gone through my own struggles. My 2018 took a similar trajectory, this weekend I get to finish out my season at a 6 hour event. Your videos helped pull me out of rough patches in the season, so thank you for that.
You got this! Take those first couple of hours nice and easy and safe some smiles for the final 60 minutes!!
Well done for getting as far as you did. Running in the heat can be enervating. Thanks for sharing it.
You're the best, man. ❤️
It's still pretty amazing what you were able to run!
I really enjoyed the format of this episode. Sorry to hear that it didn't work out as planned. Running in heat like that is killer! Thanks so much for your honesty and fun nature. Cheers!
What a funny and honest video :) Great refreshing stuff in the bunch of ultra content.
7:22 was the most JamJam shadow I've ever seen
Bless your parents! They are hilarious and adorable!
...and that girl at the restaurant...HER loss! 😉
Congrats to you anyway! Sometimes we just can't finish what we started.
Next up North Face 50 and then Cape Town?? ✨🙏🏻✨
The hurt in the eyes is telling.
Great video and ending recap! And I love your Mom - she’s awesome!
Just imagine if the Edwards and Mockos teamed up at a race! States 2019??
I just CRIED watching the 21 questions part with your parents..!! 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm not at your level, but I can relate to and agree with your comments on desire. Any time you're talking 6, 8, 15 + out on course, you better have an overwhelming desire to keep going that blocks out everything else. Once those doubts kick in, we all lose. I relate well to that work stress and how real an impact it can have. You'll bounce back and kick its ass man. Good work runner.
Still proud of ya man’ 👍. I’ve still yet to do my 1st 50K trail race. I’ll get there though, and it won’t stop at 50k either. Javelina 100 is on my bucket list in the future.
Ay ma brother just remember, treat it as a nice good effort long run for your next race mate get your mind right and all the best!
The questions recap is the ultimate in crew parent prep. Incredible parents for the W!
Have not checked into the Mocko Show in a while ! You are looking super lean now and apparently you won some road races?! Doing great man ! The desert can kill people it is alright to drop out - you learned a lot also :) . You can finish Western States 2019 - pace yourself more, also that course is slightly less warm (more shade) but still pace yourself to have a sure finish and boost your confidence in your abilities. Have fun qualifying and keep that lean shape through the winter!
I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED that baby Javelina
So funny! Good luck
I love the 21 Questions part!!
Smart decision even it hurts. Don´t put too much pressure to yourself and let things flow, you will do better :)
Dang, missed the live chat b/c of bedtime for the big guy. Glad you got the race footage, it was great to see you in action.
Sounds like a lot of excuses, Taylor ;)
Man I miss this show
That’s what I’m talking about! Drop out! Quit throw in the towel yes! Your my idol
Gotta Love Mom’s, Awesome 💕👍🏽 And don’t forget your Awesome also.....Keep it up 👣👣👣👣👍🏽🏔 Your cut out for what ever you desire...
💯's are no joke. I suck at them. And continue to suck at them. I don't know why I keep signing up. There should be a support group for this. Also, heat is evil.
If it was easy then we wouldn't enjoy it! It's the challenge that gets us out there! (...I think)
Are you sure it isn't brain damage? 🧟♀️😁
Miss you, Mocko! Come back to youtube!
OMG YOUR MUM and DAD 😂😂😂 on the kit check bahahaha
Literally had me laugh out louding!! the questions lol
How long do you get to run it?
So we r no longer live?
The questions part.... hahahaha
Good job with the video, sorry your race didn't go as you hoped.
man, this is such a good, well made video! i loved it. i'm sorry you DNF'd but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
Thanks, Leo! Must be saving up for something special some time soon!
This is definitely one of my favorite videos from you. Looking forward to hearing a report of your UTMB experience! EDIT: hadn’t watched all the way through yet and now I’m sad. I was routing for you 😭
Going back again this year for vengeance!
It's not a failure, only a setback. If you are new to 100M, focus on just finishing a 100M at a much slower/comfortable pace and not trying to win it. Running in high temperature and very fast pace can definitely lead to a setback. I know slow runners (~14min/mile) who have completed 100M races like "BADWATER 135", so you can definitely achieve this goal if you readjust your approach and expectations.
inspirational and entertaining as always in equal measures.. you might view it as a bit of a failure but i see only positives. i wish i was the owner of CostCo.. I would sign you up in a heartbeat. in fact i would force you to combine your race calendar with store visits (pre race and post race for after race rotisserie chicken party!)
I believe they're accepting new applicants!
Your parents are adorable and awesome.
What happened to the Q&A?
how'd the nutrition feel? a lot of times lack of calories is the culprit of lack of motivation
I love your mom!
Lets do this C$
Grocery store?? You mean Costco, right?
How do you know when you’re ready for a 100 mile run?
1) You've completed at least two 50mi/100k races 2) You are excited about the particular race/course/location 3) A month out, you start having dreams about the race 4) You wake up every day excited to train!
Where are you base out of? I would love to workout with you sometime if your near LV
Boulder :( Don't think that's close enough!
You have awesome parents. :)
Can we start an instagram for Jam Jam's shadow?
Thumbs up for your Mom and Pop xD
Dr. Evil and Mini-me.
Hahahaha, You're mom is the best.
Is your race crew for hire?
I believe they've bumped up their price to $20/mile. Let me know if I should put you in touch!
Thanks for sharing, great video. I would of welcomed you to pace me when I came in much much later.
Am I the only one who didn't know that Tom Hanks was still alive, much less in a music video?
Good decision. If it hurts and you're not going to win, why bother finishing...
You like movies...
