2019 LAKE SONOMA 50 | The Window Seat

  • A behind the scenes look at my trip to Healdsburg, CA to have my second go at the notoriously relentless but beautiful Lake Sonoma 50-Mile run in preparation to race the Angeles Crest 100 Mile later this year. The race once again, chewed me up and spat me out on the end side. A thoroughly enjoyable trip nonetheless

Billy! Are you kidding me? You finished against all odds. Your body (and mind) were saying “QUIT”
Anyone who’s run, was cheering. Sometimes the body doesn’t cooperate. Your will and training were definitely there. Even when people pull out, getting to the starting line is a win.
    Love the inspiration.

Another amazing video Billy! I have my first 65km Ultra on June 29th here in Scotland. It’s content from you and similar people that fuel my fire, and originally got me inspired. From running the 400m in high school fairly competitively and playing rugby, you totally opened my eyes to another world and way of thinking. Huge thanks for the work you put in.

Really wel-made video Billy! Two weeks ago I ran my first marathon (in 4h19) and haven't been able to run since because of an overuse injury. Honestly it's mesmerising and know that every time you take the time to shoot from a different angle or use a different technique it's noticed and appreciated. Good job plowing on it. 50 mile aint no walk in the park. Peace out

Hey Billy. Just found out about you and your channel a few days ago. Pretty much watched everything you have on here (It's slow in the office) and your films are brilliant and you seem like a great guy. I'm a Brit, living and working in Germany and I'm training for my first Ultra in Spain in July. It's great how you document everything involved with an event, not just the good parts but also the bad, tough and painful parts. Keep up the good work mate!

Cramping ... could be due to low sodium. I’m having some success with pickle juice, during the race, as well as Rolaids (potassium & calcium) in the days leading up to the race / long run. Just some helpful ultra hacks, to try out in training. Hope to see you at San Diego 100, if you can make it. Keep up the great work, Billy.

Great video man. Good job. Could you try to get Goggins on my fine sir. He's talking about maybe Leadville this year or training up to it I think. Love to hear his mindset on embracing the suck in Ultras especially. This past month during 25k started to complain. Realized after short while no more complaining. Pity over. Get after it. That distance for me can be challenging for my stomach and muscles. Need to strength train. Thought about how if not challenging myself can't accomplish anything. Think you have some in common with desire carry the boats whether in BUD/S or Lake Sonoma 50. Thanks for great content consistently.

Thanks for taking all the time req'd to take us along, edit, and produce this! And for the candor. Much appreciated! Have you thought about changing up what you drink and supplement with? Maybe it would help you feel better to be getting something different into your body. Maybe do some label reading and see what you think about other products, compared to what ingredients are in what you currently use. You might see a lot of benefit from mixing in MRM's "BCAA+G" into your drink, and maybe adding in some magnesium pills, which will dissolve as you're running. Products like "Genius Electrolytes" and "Liquid I.V." either alternated or mixed together might make a difference for you too. You're one tough dude to gut out 50 when you're feeling like that. Best mode: ON

I hear ya on the one man pity party. Had a 50k race on Saturday where everything went wrong in the last 10k. Hyperextended my left knee because I was trying to keep up with the sponsored dudes on a downhill. Looked back after I was done and realized that I still had a great day out on the trails!
