  • Jet Engine Igniter Change | GE90-90B | Part 1
    The GE90-90B engine has two igniters. The igniter is the spark plug for a jet engine. Its purpose is to ignite the fuel. Each igniter costs $700.00. To change the igniters on both engines is $2800.00 just for the igniters and another $200.00 for additional costs.

    Not gonna lie, that looks more like an oversized O2 sensor from a car 😂.

    Looks like the FOD catcher fell out of your pliers, too! It seems to be a pretty frequent issue with those.

      Yeah, what's the deal with that? Thanks for watching.

      My guess is the rubber just doesn't have a very good adhesive. I've seen someone mention using RTV silicone and a piece of tape between the jaws while it cures overnight to make a replacement FOD catcher. They said it lasts a few months and then they do it again. It might be worth trying out. I've thought of doing that, or using rubber cement.

    When/how often do you need to change them?

      I am a flight mechanic. I travel with the plane wherever is goes and keep it repaired. So I make the flying videos too while the pilots are flying.

      BigIronTV is this the only plane that you work on? I'm assuming it's a private plane? How many flights a year do you take on that beaut?

    • @BigIronTV
      @BigIronTV  7 лет назад +3

      It is private. It is the only plane I work on. I go where it goes around the world and keep it ready. About 30-50 flights per year.

      BigIronTV That's awesome! I watched some of your other videos and figured you had to travel with the plane. You've been to some really cool places! You're also a pretty damn good bladesmith!
      Is the knife making and everything else a hobby then? Never talked to a private plane mechanic before. How often do you check out your baby in between flights?

      The knife making started as something I wanted to do as a gift for my kids a bit over two years ago. I liked it and started to learn more. Now it is an actual business at www.belnapcustomknives.com. In the process of learning knife making I came up with some tools and methods that are unique and very beneficial. Once I launched the website there has only been time to make and sell the tools. Hoping to get back on knife making in the next few months. The tool making is pretty fun too though.

    Is turbofan no jet engine

    • @christopher4636
      @christopher4636 4 года назад

      You're confusing 'Jet engine' with 'turbo jet'. Jet engine is a general term and covers turbo fan and turbo jet engines.

      No its not. That's the APU you hear. They would not be having engines running while working on them.
