Thanks for the slight detour about being nice. I was feeling a little self-conscious because someone recently approached me and ask for advice about starting a small embroidery business. I embroidery, but not as a business. She's young enough to be my child and just starting out. I talked her through several things, helped her source supplies, gave her tips, and then insisted she share her address. I sent her a little starter box of organizing supplies, a display for getting good photos, and a few other things. She was grateful. But, I worried that I was pushing too much. You have eased my mind and my heart. Your words were like a confirmation that I did the right thing.
You 100% did the right thing!! Even if she doesn’t realize it right now, that gesture could also have a bigger impact on her than either of you think. In my book, it’s always best to help if you are able! 💖
@@Costuming_Drama Thank you. I told her that I consider it an investment in her as a person (mental health). I don't care if it ends up being a career change, a temporary business, or no business at all/just the enjoyment of the crafting. There is joy in nurturing the spirit of others.
The conflict of ethically sourced is so universal in the art/creative community. This is something I end up talking with friends a LOT about. I'm an oil painter, my soul sister is primarily a watercolourist, and there's emotional conflict that just. Comes with using paper, or paints, or anything. We use them so much more as creatives than the average joe will, so it just. ...Ends up weighing on you, when you're emotionally conscious. I'm so glad you got a win with the fabric dilemma.
You mentioned Lithuania and I was like "Yeah. Yeah, we do make the best linen you can get. Damn, I'm so proud of my country right now, even though you overpaid for the fabric" :D The usual price per metre is about 8 to10 euros. You can find so many options of linen you wouldn't believe. But, boy oh boy, good luck finding normal silk fabric for historical costuming here...
I tasked my sister in law with sourcing me some natural fiber Moomin fabric the other week after I realized a Moomi Muumuu could be a thing and that I absolutely need one in my life (so does she).
I’m glad to find that other people take a while to cut out their fabric. I cut out 3 pairs of kids undies and a pair of shorts for one of my girls and was bummed that I didn’t actually get anything sewn because it took so long to get those small items cut out. Also, while fabric production is definitely hard on the environment and big companies don’t always pay their workers well, I’m currently living in Bangladesh, and the garment district and RMG (as they call it here, ready made garments) has been shut down for a long time and is slowly getting back to production. The whole country takes a huge hit when the RMG companies are out of production. They help support the whole country. So, if you’re buying fabric made here, it actually helps support workers. Given the local salaries in general are quite low, garment industry work is actually one of the better paying respectable jobs a young woman can get. The salaries seem horribly low to us, but for here, they’re considered not too bad. My personal opinion is that putting pressure on the companies we buy from to sustainably source and ethically pay the workers who make their garments, by inspecting factories and collaborating with the manufacturer on fair treatment, and, this is the big key, being willing to pay more for clothing that is produced by the companies that do those things can help. I think the more we are all willing to have less, better made clothing and to pay more for that quality, the better for the workers and the environment. Your Caftan is beautiful. That color is beautiful on you.
I started to sew just 2 months ago and was shocked by how much fabric costs (I though making my own clothes would be cheaper than buying). It was a huge eyeopener to how cheap(not in a good sense) fast fashion is, because if just one yard of cotton costs more than a finished garment from let`s say H&M, just how cheap and low quality must the fabric they use be, and how cheap must the labour be, if the companies still make a profit? it`s insane!
Ethical fabric is hard. I was asked to speak about sustainable fashion and I was shunned from the circle of people who organized the event because I said that even "sustainable" fabrics have problems. sustainable materials can be treated with hazardous chemicals. Transport. Sourcing of materials. There are so many way that things can go bad, its nearly impossible to be 100%. So I talked about re-use and up-cycling. Apparently that was not the message I was supposed to tell.
I tend to get fabric from thrift shops - sheets, actual fabric pieces, old clothing :D I admit I sew mainly doll clothes (BJDs mostly) so it's easier to get enough! I still spend tooo much on remnants at fabric stores tho :( Plus, my daughter is getting married, so that's the Mother of the Bride dress, the Rehearsal Dinner dress, and her (pure silk tulle) veil that I am making. Bought most of it at Mood Fabrics. Once in a lifetime so shoot me :( LOL
As a POC who's really nervous about getting started in historical costuming this was so motivational. And I'm totally making this caftan! I think this video was the inspiration I needed to start!!
I love the way you talk about how you've skipped a few days, or had a tough time, or got distracted. It makes me feel less guilty when I do it and helps me to believe that I can get things done as well
I completely understand the feeling of needing a win. There’s so much horror being brought to light, and everything “simple” like wearing a mask seems to be political when it’s anything but...on top of the imminent loss of one parent while the other parent is losing a battle with Alzheimer’s...I feel like I’m drowning. There are no words for how grateful I am for this connection to community. I’m so happy to see your beautiful face and to have a few minutes of escape. Sometimes you just need to take a breath, and your vlogs help me do that. Thank you so much for all you do; you are deeply appreciated! May the next week bring you joy, comfort, and accomplishment, my friend. Be well. Edit: I ADORE the colors you chose for your Bougie Mumu (omg, best name ever!). I’m gonna have to break down and get the pattern and some decent linen because I need some bougie goodness in my life. Oh! You’re so right that the “I did it! Go me!” feeling never goes away... I’ve been knitting for 40 years, and I still feel bulletproof when I finish something well. Much love, and thank you again.
Same here. Mama was admitted to hospital with a leg issue that became a heart issue. She's coming back now but I had to completely zone out not to break down. I went for a very long walk and then bought some very cool earrings my bestie suggested.
Okay this just may convince me to make a caftan. That is cute and I want more loungewear because real clothes are kind of a no right now. Yeah, LA fashion district is mostly huge piles of remnants. Back when Michael Levine was still there, that stuff wasn't always leftovers, but places like Home Fabrics and stuff are. It's how you can get designer silks for $16/yard. A lot of it is high end last season interior decor textiles so, fun fact, I'm making a francaise out of a blue and gold striped silk that I saw in "Vice" on one of the DC sets. Super tempted to make a tiny Cheney doll to have ride on my hoops but no one would get it. (And I'd be too tempted to stick it full of pins). A bunch of the stuff Mood has is "remnants" too; all the stuff that is marked CL is bolts and bolts of 'rescued' fabric.
I’ve appreciated your instagram stories the last week or so. Like nigh on everyone, I’ve had it to the ceiling with the world in general. I’m not sure why they’ve been as reassuring as they have, but it’s been nice. So thank you. ♥️
Love that Peacock blue on you! DEFINITELY your color! European chocolate has cocoa butter instead of the waxy stuff, much better. I have a purchased caftan made of a milk jersey (a rayon fabric made from milk that would go to waste in the dairy industry) and I want to make another if I can find some of this amazing fabric. It is amazingly soft. Worth looking for. Oh yes, and congratulations 🎈 on getting every penny’s worth out of those shoes!
Thank you SOOO much for your talk today about being nice. As a new person to this sport I can't tell you how much a comment makes my day. I just started posting on IG and was so afraid to post/share there because of the poo-poo heads out there, it has taken me 6 months to get the guts to post. Luckily I haven't gotten any negative comments, but have decided to just keep posting regardless. If only your attitude was as catchy as other things out there the world would be so much better off. Thank you again!!
Awww that was nice of you to say! Tag me when you finish stuff and I’ll try and post some of your work in my stories and help you get nice people to follow you! 💖
I'm just nodding along to your rants... "Yep... yep... yep..." It's weird about not going out to stores, well not really. I mean, I've just been my entire family's designated errands person. Slap on a mask and let's go! Honestly, I'm amazed I haven't gotten it yet. Dallas is a hot spot, frighteningly high numbers, but we need more puppy pads for the baby goose we're raising in our library? I'm in the car off to Petsmart!
Seriously swooning over that blue fabric 😍 I already loved the kaftan watching Abby make it...now even more tempted to get the pattern.. best last line of instructions... Yes Queen do it! Sewing is a weird sport LOL and recording the process is the best broadcasting activity... thanks so much for being a companion to us.
PENDELTON! I bought my dad a t-shirt from Pendelton, it cost over $30 it is SOOOOOO worth it! Also they work WITH Native Artists to create their patterns they don't just steal the patterns so that's amazing. Other "ethical" places to get fabric. Second-hand stores like Goodwill, eBay, Freecycle, Facebook Marketplace. None of these are ideal because you mightn't find the fabric you need and it probably wasn't sourced ethically in the first place BUT you can prevent the fabric from going to landfill and that's a good thing.
Aldi chocolate imported to the UK is so much better than Cadbury. Especially as I can't have dairy milk. They have a creamy dark one that doesn't have dairy in it and it's amazing!
@@blisles7626 Nothing - NOTHING beats Cadbury's Flakes!!!!!!!!! Ok, it's dairy in it but .... *iz ded*. But yeah ALDI has very high quality non-brand products, and the secret is: Very early on, ALDI persuaded famous brands to produce ALDI specific products. It is the same product just with different wrapping. If you look up the production number/place you can see that it is produced in the same famous brand plant just that the famous name is not mentioned. This way producers could keep their more pricey high street production stable and all surplus went to ALDI. I do not know how they are doing abroad, but it is still a practice here in Germany.
@@sc0ttishlass Oh cool. I would be with you on the Flakes but I raise you a Galaxy Ripple. Still can't have it but I have chocolate opinions from pre-veganism.
@@Costuming_Drama I try. There is too much negativity in the world if someone is truly interested in sewing I want to encourage them not to discourage. :D
You are such a beautiful person. Listening to you speak about how we should all help on another and not say ugly things is amazing. You do it without being judgmental. I’ve got the pattern for the bougie mumu, but I’ve little if any sewing experience so I’m having anxiety. Your video has helped!
I fell down an internet rabbit hole learning about Harris tweed a couple of weeks ago. That's an ethical fabric, at least in my opinion. But EXPENSIVE.
Yes for sure, and absolutely cost prohibitive for most costumers and sewists... also, I live in California... that stuff is way too hot to wear here. But yes, there are some small and very focused options, but not enough to make your whole wardrobe out of. I’m glad that the fabric district seems like a decent compromise!
@@Costuming_Drama the trick with Harris tweed is to haunt charity shops (outside Edinburgh and Glasgow) in Scotland I have found 5 lengths of Harris tweed over the last couple of years when holidaying.
I love that you seem to be a night owl like me and you just get to embrace that. I have struggled my whole life trying to keep a "normal" schedule. Very frustrating. A lot of people judge me and take it as some kind of laziness, but that is just how my body has always functioned. I'm new to your channel and really enjoying it.
You are the most awesome "Fairy Godmother" person. It is so nice to see someone in your age group being so kind and understanding of the world around you. Your tutorials are easy to follow and interesting. Your gowns are amazing and I love that you are fluffy and not self disparaging like so many other less self actualized persons. Keep being amazing and Much love to you especially when you have your tougher days.
You're amazing! I love and appreciate your spirit, and kindness. I want to make a shift dress, now I want to make a caftan. This costume community is very addictive. Thank you for all the inspiration!
Love brittish chocolate! Also I am convinced narnian dresses are calftans. cause lewis several times comments how comfortable narnian clothes are. Also that jedi aesthetic goes well with art neuvou and Arthur Rackham styles which I imagine Narnian art basically ln.
Thanks so much for your small rant! It’s great to have kind people like you in the community. I’m a new costumer, and social media scares me so much that I just never post. I lurk in the corner of this party, and people only ever saw what I make when they saw me irl, and that isn’t a thing anymore. So I’m trying to muster the courage to put myself out there, and that helped a lot. You stay safe and give yourself a hug from me!
Awww hugs right back and I like Instagram a lot. It’s easy to just look at pretty pictures if you want and not get too bogged down in the social media part of it!
Everyone needs the love right now. That's why I love watching you. Because you show life as it is in that things are not always going according to plan but beautiful things can come out of the crazy mess anyway. Keep it up and love that you share your self love and your love for others. 💝
You are such an awesome human! I love when you talk about caring for people and the environment and anything else you're concerned about ❤️ it also makes my heart happy to compliment and encourage others 😊
Aww thank you 💖. I mostly think people need to hear encouragement to be positive more in their lives so I try to lead by example when possible. Some days I am cranky AF though, too... 😂
Omg yes, I totally agree with whoever said you look like a Jedi. This project looks like so much fun!! I saw Abby's video and I'm so happy to see other people jumping on the caftan train :)
Your caftan has a nice 1970s-Ravenclaw-Jedi vibe, I love it ! I just finished readign the last book of Robin Hobb's Teh Fitz and the Fool trilogy, and I feel a bit empty, don't know what to start next...
Really wanting to make this and I also want to send you chocolate from Norway. It is absolutely to die for. I was a chocolatier and pastry chef, so I've worked with some amazing chocolate and truly, nothing beats out Norwegian chocolate. When the weather cools and sending chocolate is smart, I promise I will. Also, you are the sweetest and I love your realness.
Marketing idea, while waiting for weather to cool, make a little 'presentation' package with your email or website & place to order that chocolate ! Because if she loves it, I am sure she would share links ! ;) And if you're not making it yourself, now might be the time ! ;)
I would like to try all the chocolates from all over the world! When I was a little girl, there was one small shop in town that had small balls of individually wrapped German chocolate and it was so delicious! I’ve had other chocolate from Germany since, and it was never as good. I’ve had chocolate in Mexico, which is different, but still amazing, and the origin of chocolate. And pretty much every country I go to, I try to find chocolate. So, one day perhaps I will get a chance or get chocolate from Norway. Is there a source for this chocolate in the US, that you know of? We’ll be heading back for a few months whenever this Covid business has lightened up a bit.
@@merindymorgenson3184 Yes! There is a website called scaninavianfoodstore(dot)com and I would get the Freia Melkskjokolade (milk chocolate) and the Nidar Stratos to start with. They are both milk chocolates but the Stratos has air pumped into it so it has a magical texture. The Kremtopper and Krokanrull are also very good.
Great video today, Noelle! Thanks for showing us how you made the caftan. That color looks GORGEOUS on you! And thanks for your words on being nice. It really can make a huge difference. Be blessed, my friend! ❤️
That does look comfy! I love the colors. Normally I need extra layers like that in the summer because of the A/C, but today the A/C can’t keep up. Thanks for the info about fashion districts. I’ve been moving over to that because my gut just said it was better, but I didn’t have any actual reason why. Now I have a great reason. Listening/reading: A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin; Working on: my son’s pirate outfit for his online camp
I just found you and I love you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your kindness. Love your kaftan -- you did such a wonderful job and you look beautiful in it.
All of you who show how nice this dress is, make me really want to make it as well!!! And I was laughing when I noticed familiar books in your shelf that I also have :) 'Dressing A Galaxy' was my first Costume Book ever I think. Cheers
The color of your fabric is awesome. Your words of encouragement and positivity are better. Your “poorly sewn house” is not poorly sewn, it’s a salt box cottage.
One of the things I learned, it's that some fashion's house (like Dior or Well's) would not take a bold of fabric if it contains a flaw and you can find them on Wholesale shop or fabric district. If I don't like something, I don't comment as I don't want people to comment on my stuff. Sewtine and others received nasty comments because they are not European., I wonder how much it's jealousy or should I say stupidly. I should make a Kaftan one day. Enjoy your week
I’m binging your videos while working on my quilt - thank you for the ethical fabric speech, because that was something I had been thinking about for a while. Also, your videos contain so much information, I did not know about decades of style (and just found out they’re down the street from me to add to my list to visit in the future!)
I don't sew, I dream to and one day will, but Noelle I follow you BECAUSE of your TedTalks. Your struggles are real (I'm a spoonie too) and the way you look at the world is so inspiring. Your views are real, your heart is pure, and your spirit is inspiring. So so much love from New Zealand, and happy swanning!!! xoxo
As always a great job! I am not an expert sewer but I always try to help the new sewers when they come in...just basic tips about scissors, washing fabric and ironing. I have had several thank me later. It does feel great.
Really love that caftan on you! I'm a jeans and tshirt girl too, but may have to give it a try. Right now, I am working my way through a pile of unfinished quilts. I keep saying I won't start a new one until at least a couple of them are done, but it's so hard to resist the fun of new patterns and all the pretty fabrics!
Full confession. Jedi robe was totally my first thought. It’s like a Robe and a Kimono mix but either way it looks super comfy and flowy. I just finished The Man On The Mountain which was an Audible original a few months ago I think and really enjoyed it and am still listening to the Love to Sew podcasts and working on seaming together the pieces for a hand sewn petticoat from what’s left of a white cotton sheet. I may consider coffee dying it though because I’ve already spilt coffee on both this and the Shift before it 🤷♀️. Thank you as always for putting your self out here and for well being you ❤️🌻 I hope you your hubs and your kitty’s are safe and well!
What a wonderful video!! Loved it. Like I said on Instagram, I love the finished garment. It's amazing! I had no idea that there were hidden groups where people talk bad about others. That is very disappointing. I will never understand why people do that. What they should do, if they don't like someone, is block and move one with their lives. Not spread more hate. Though, to be honest, whenever I come across people hating on those I like and/or respect...well, I am the first one to jump in feet first swinging. I have gotten better at not doing that. But, sometimes I can't help it. Anyway, again, I love your new garment. 👍🏼😊
I'm a weaver and I work with linen a lot. It fluffs, even the good quality linen. In Finland where I live it is used a lot on sauna textiles and usually the guide is to wash new linen stuff alone because otherwise you end up having full load of items covered with the fluff when it comes out from the washer. The fluff can actually also clog your washer so you want to check your lint filter specially after the first wash. For those who are new to linen you also want to soak it before washing. That helps the washing process and makes the fabric come out less wrinkled, because linen needs a lot of water. The soaking makes the linen absorbs less water from the washer so there is more water during the washing process. Because of it's need of water it is not recommended to wash linen in full load either. And you want skip the pre-washing program from your washer also with linen. Slower washing speed and higher water level will decrease the amount of lint coming off during the first washes. You will want to avoid long spin-drying cycles as long spin times might cause permanent wrinkles to the fabric. You should iron it when it is damp after washing it. The wrinkles comes out easier in that point. If you let it dry when it is wrinkled you are in a lot of work to get them out. But it is absolutely wonderful material and gets better with time. With each washing the fabric will get more softer and more comfortable to wear because of that. And the plus side is that because it is antibacterial as material you don't have to wash it as often and you need your synthetic clothing. Loved your log with this by the way. From some reason I have been watching a lot of costumers lately and you guys make me want to tackle my sewing phobia lol. I have hate love relation ship with my sewing machine. I work with it because I have to do finishing touches for my weaving's, other than that I try to stay out from it. But you guys make me want to try find peace with it lol. Maybe some day.
The kaftan looks great! I love that colour and the brown accents work really well. I had to laugh because I was just thinking “kinda Jedi-style” about 10 seconds before you mentioned somebody had already told you the same thing 🤣 Also, if you don’t already have a favourite resource, Kittenish Behaviour has a tutorial for how to French seam pockets here on RUclips that I found very helpful.
I love your Vlogs. They inspire me. I've always made most of my own clothes and love to sew and knit. You look beautiful in your caftan. Also loved your comments on being kind to one another. I'd like to add ... treat others the way you want to be treated. Stay safe and healthy.
I've been working on sewing more masks for friends and family, and I've finally gotten the mock-up for my friends corset figured out! It was definitely a nice win, and a great feeling to have it finally done so I can work on the real thing. I've been sewing off and on for 17 years, and every time I finish a sewing project, it's a huge win, and a great feeling. I'm currently finishing up The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu. I would definitely recommend. It's a fantasy novel, but it's about Mozart's sister. It's really interesting, and if it continues to be this good through the end, it will probably be my favorite book. And next, I'm going to Read Rise of Kyoshi. As a huge ATLA fan, I'm so hyped. I'm also working on the idea of wearing skirts. I've never been the type, but I love the look, and even if it's only for cosplay, I want to wear them, but it's a hard idea to wrap my head around. I'm starting to warm to the idea, but I'm not quite there. Artfully, Iason
Me too on the skirt thing! When I started to consider that it’s like being able to walk around with no pants on and just a blanket, I changed my mind. I like no pants time... I should try this... 🤣😉
My favorite Fabric Store, which Abby knows as well since she is also in Reno, is Mill End, It's all remnants in the same way, lightly damaged, discontinued, dye lots that were wrong for the product line, etc. And the owner tries really hard to stock the best things he can, He's super kind and awesome.
@@Costuming_DramaI will always check the linen section because if there is clothing weight 100% linen I'm likely taking some home. It's the only thing I buy without a plan since it's not always there.
I just recently found one of these kinds of shops here near me and I want so bad to go look around but with cases going up... I can’t justify going downtown to look at pretty fabrics.
Oh, I miss Mill End! They used to have one in Carson too that we went to more often, since that’s where we lived. Hadn’t thought of them for years, thanks for the memories.
This is really interesting commentary about fabrics. I am just beginning to sew (by hand - loud machinery things scare me!), but am a spinner and weaver. Currently weaving off some towels so that I can warp up some handspun (from local sheep) to weave a wool fabric for a ruana. I will have to ladder stitch it together to get it wide enough, and will likely hem it, but minimal sewing and max fabric use. We are continuing to lose mills, although the movement for sustainability etc is definitely rebuilding some of the infrastructure that may lead to reopening at least some of the small mills..for instance, some wool processors are reopening here and there....Thanks for being so awesome, Noelle!
The most ethical purchases we can make as sewists... is an interesting story. Many of us like to use recycled fabrics wherever possible. The caftan looks like such a fun thing to lounge around in. I bet it is super comfortable. Hope you are feeling better. :)
We needed a win this week too. We ended up having an awesome carrot harvest yesterday, so we got it! I bought a fund raiser cookie for St. Jude from the dollar store yesterday. The cashier was so excited to tell me that they had already raised $800.00. Her genuine excitement made me smile the whole way home. I also asked who made the cookies; it was her. It was just so very precious. We like to fairy godmother by watchibg other small CosTubers like ourselves to help get their views, watch time, and interactions up. Feels good and costs nothing. Thanks for all that you are doing. It makes a difference for sure.
yay, so cute! I have wanted to make one since I saw Abby's video, but have, like, 3 other projects that I should do first :( Some day I will have a boujee Muumuu!

Yeah, I agree! We need to find ways of getting the fabric while still keeping these people employed and hopefully getting them better wages!
I’ve come to terms with the idea that I’ll basically never get stuff cut and sewn the same day. I just don’t have the spoons most of the time.
I still spend tooo much on remnants at fabric stores tho :(
Plus, my daughter is getting married, so that's the Mother of the Bride dress, the Rehearsal Dinner dress, and her (pure silk tulle) veil that I am making. Bought most of it at Mood Fabrics. Once in a lifetime so shoot me :( LOL
I support your message!
i'm a baby costumer and i just wanted to say how welcome i feel in this community. everyone is so amazing and kind towards newbies.
Oh yay! I’m so glad to hear that!! 💖💖
As a POC who's really nervous about getting started in historical costuming this was so motivational. And I'm totally making this caftan! I think this video was the inspiration I needed to start!!
I hope you have had some good experiences xxx
Sending you a long distance germ free hug. Seems like you could use one !
Offering internet hugs if you would like them 💖 I hope you’re able to find some time to take care of yourself!
Thank you, both! Hugs are always welcome and appreciated. Sending hugs right back.
Hope your week gets better
That’s all so comforting to know! 💖 and yes! Make a caftan! They are so comfy!!
I’ve appreciated your instagram stories the last week or so. Like nigh on everyone, I’ve had it to the ceiling with the world in general. I’m not sure why they’ve been as reassuring as they have, but it’s been nice. So thank you. ♥️
Awww so glad to be so! 💖
Um. You just blew my mind. There’s rayon made of milk???? I am gonna go down a research hole now.
Also in Europe, the milk used is fresher. Its not added the acid needed to transport milk longer distances.
Fabric Möbius strip, excellent idea! Edit...I don’t eat American chocolate if I can help it either. The caftan looks so nice on you!
Thank you!! 💖
I'm just nodding along to your rants...
"Yep... yep... yep..."
It's weird about not going out to stores, well not really.
Yeah, my husband is ours so I haven’t gone much, but wear a mask and wash your hands and be safe and you have ok odds!
💖💖 you should get it if you are able. It’s a really good one!
@@Costuming_Drama will do 👍, now just to find a material that doesn't shed like crazy and won't overheat me 🤪
I'm so thankful for the Costube community. It's become my learning safe space 💜💜💜
Oh that’s wonderful to hear!
The teal and the contrasting colour are beautiful on their own and superb together. Great choices.
Thank you!!
The $1.99 bog chocolate bars at Aldis are imported from Germany. Dark chocolate and hazelnut for the win
BIG not bog!
We have Pirate O’s here in Utah and they have imported candies. Imported chocolate for the win!
Louge Queen Jedi vibe! Very cool. I’m working on a mock up for vintage reproduction bra top and a muppet style puppet. Variety!
Wow! Your life is way more interesting than mine right now!
HAHA "Not awkward love, but you know love."
HAHA I do the YAY moment too and I've been sewing for over 30 years. :D
Hahahah
You are SUCH a good cheerleader!! 💖
My friend in Scotland buys me oodles of thrifted Harris tweed. Which makes me super happy.
You can also occasionally find Irish tweed which is still hand woven ethically. Again, very expensive but hand woven. Hard to find but out there.
Well yes, but that is extremely difficult to do from California 😉
Awww thank you, friend!
You're my new favourite sewing companion!! 😍
I saw Abby make hers, and now you, and oh man... that just looks so comfy and flowy. I may have to add it to my list. ^_^ Love your vids!
Do it!! It’s so good!!
I've been sewing for 50 years and still have the "Yes!" feeling when I get something right. :)
Your content and personality are wonderful. Thank you for the encouraging advice.
💖💖 thank you!
You're amazing! I love and appreciate your spirit, and kindness. I want to make a shift dress, now I want to make a caftan. This costume community is very addictive. Thank you for all the inspiration!
Best half hour of my day. Thanks.
💖💖
Love brittish chocolate! Also I am convinced narnian dresses are calftans. cause lewis several times comments how comfortable narnian clothes are. Also that jedi aesthetic goes well with art neuvou and Arthur Rackham styles which I imagine Narnian art basically ln.
I can see that!
Beautiful!! Am inspired to put this on my to-make list...HUGS!!
I love the color choice. Very pretty.
Thank you!
The caftan looks amazing and looks great on you.
I love watching you do your thing. It makes my day better and helps to get me motivated. Thank you.
Awww how kind! I’m so glad!
It's beautiful. Excellent job!
Everyone needs the love right now. That's why I love watching you. Because you show life as it is in that things are not always going according to plan but beautiful things can come out of the crazy mess anyway.
Keep it up and love that you share your self love and your love for others. 💝
💖💖💖
You are such an awesome human! I love when you talk about caring for people and the environment and anything else you're concerned about ❤️ it also makes my heart happy to compliment and encourage others 😊
Aww thank you 💖. I mostly think people need to hear encouragement to be positive more in their lives so I try to lead by example when possible. Some days I am cranky AF though, too... 😂
Hey, my favorite fabric shopping spot is a win. Thank you for sharing that information.
I love this! I like the idea of wearing this "off hours" at an SCA/ren faire event or something.
Omg yes, I totally agree with whoever said you look like a Jedi. This project looks like so much fun!! I saw Abby's video and I'm so happy to see other people jumping on the caftan train :)
"Just get one thing done"... I needed to hear that piece of wisdom today x'D
Your caftan has a nice 1970s-Ravenclaw-Jedi vibe, I love it !
I just finished readign the last book of Robin Hobb's Teh Fitz and the Fool trilogy, and I feel a bit empty, don't know what to start next...
After watching this video and Abby’s video making the same caftan, I caved and bought the pattern and fabric. Can’t wait to make myself one!
You will love it!!
Hope you enjoy the jewelry!
I am 100% obsessed with your caftan, which is also in the perfect colors. I have really got to make one like immediately!
Oh you will love it!! And apparently we will all swan around coco on Sunday in our caftans so please do join us!! 💖
Because if she loves it, I am sure she would share links ! ;)
And if you're not making it yourself, now might be the time ! ;)
Margaret MacLellan I'm retired from that career now, but it's a good idea nonetheless.
Jenn InStitches oooh! Thank you! I’ll have to write those down and order some once we’re back Stateside. Hmmm! Happy Anticipation!
this caftan is so so pretty!!!
Great video today, Noelle! Thanks for showing us how you made the caftan. That color looks GORGEOUS on you! And thanks for your words on being nice. It really can make a huge difference. Be blessed, my friend! ❤️
And you as well! 💖💖 and thank you!!
it came out looking so pretty!!! and the colors are amazing!
Thank you!!
Ohhhh that book is what got me into fantasy. It’s such a good one! 💖
I just found you and I love you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your kindness. Love your kaftan -- you did such a wonderful job and you look beautiful in it.
Oh it turned out so beautiful! That color is so complementary for you look gorgeous!
Thank you!!
All of you who show how nice this dress is, make me really want to make it as well!!!
And I was laughing when I noticed familiar books in your shelf that I also have :) 'Dressing A Galaxy' was my first Costume Book ever I think.
Cheers
Sooo now ontop of regency short stays I now need to make a caftan! Ah! Thankyou Noelle for the sewing inspo! xD another great vlog!
You won’t regret it! It’s so comfy!
The color of your fabric is awesome. Your words of encouragement and positivity are better. Your “poorly sewn house” is not poorly sewn, it’s a salt box cottage.
I really enjoy your personality. I agree with all of the things that you say. Oh and the caftan looks great. I’d love to have one!
My mother, who is 70 and has been sewing for a minimum of 40 years, has a similar reaction when she masters a difficult new project.
Hahaha that’s great to hear!!
Yeah, Christine gets so much idiocy. I really don’t get that because she is just the very nicest person. People are just really horrible sometimes...
Your topstitching and hand stitching is just exquisite. Respect!,
Thank you!! 💖💖
I’m binging your videos while working on my quilt - thank you for the ethical fabric speech, because that was something I had been thinking about for a while. Also, your videos contain so much information, I did not know about decades of style (and just found out they’re down the street from me to add to my list to visit in the future!)
Such a comfy dress and the color comes off as teal on my computer. Love your updates, Noelle.
Yep, it’s real alright!!
On my laptop it is the same color as her eyes. So pretty!
just discovered your channel yesterday. I like you conversation about being kind and supportive. Thank you. We need more kindness in the world.
💖💖
That looks so comfortable! I think I need to make one.
Yeah you do!!
Ooh this looks so lovely and comfy and I love that colour on you xx
Thank you!!
I Love the colour of that kaftan and it looks amazing.
Thanks!
Thanks so much for the info on the garment districts. It is a bit of a relief.
I don't sew, I dream to and one day will, but Noelle I follow you BECAUSE of your TedTalks. Your struggles are real (I'm a spoonie too) and the way you look at the world is so inspiring. Your views are real, your heart is pure, and your spirit is inspiring.
So so much love from New Zealand, and happy swanning!!! xoxo
Awww thank you so much!! 💖💖 love right back atcha!!
As always a great job! I am not an expert sewer but I always try to help the new sewers when they come in...just basic tips about scissors, washing fabric and ironing. I have had several thank me later. It does feel great.
I love the colour combination - it's beautiful! The sleeve wings are so dramatic and it looks amazing on you ❤
Thank you so much!!
“Squirrel” is real!
Hahah that genius! Hide the stains by staining the whole thing! 🤣👍🏻
Costuming Drama “hide all your sins” that’s the plan 😜
1 minute into this video, and mind blown over the Möbius strip advice!
I hope it serves you in good stead!
Thank you! And I really just feel sorry for them. They have to be pretty miserable to only be able to find joy though putting people down.
@@Costuming_Drama very sad.
Thank you!!
I love your Vlogs. They inspire me. I've always made most of my own clothes and love to sew and knit. You look beautiful in your caftan. Also loved your comments on being kind to one another. I'd like to add ... treat others the way you want to be treated. Stay safe and healthy.
Thank you!! And you too!
My mother made a few of these for a friend several years ago but now I think I may have to plan a liberation raid for this in her patterns box
I endorse your plan!!
MILL END IS THE BEST! I have been known to drive to Reno just to go check out what they have!
I love Mill End too, the PDX stores are so great!
The Bougie Muumuu turned out great!
Thanks!
I am, thank you!!
that linen is such a gorgeous color on you! purty.
Thank you!!
Yay awesome carrot harvest and fundraiser cookie!! And yes, that’s a wonderful way to fairy godmother!! 💖💖💖
