I almost never leave comments…I just wanted to say that I also grew up under an oppressive legalistic Christian doctrine that twisted elements of scriptural truth with one pastor’s need for domination and control. In another video, Jinger used the word “disentanglement” rather than “deconstruction” to describe what she has done with her faith and it is a perfect word. She is a beautiful example of finding freedom in Christ. I have walked this same journey and disentangling the lies and indoctrination from the Truth without losing your faith is difficult but possible. I watched Shiny Happy People and while I was glad that it shed light on the evils of some legalistic religions, I was disappointed that at times, it painted all Christians, all homeschoolers, all large families, etc, in a bad light. There was no message of hope in Christ. Jinger made the right decision.

I watched your podcast on the “unplanned podcast” and I was really blown away at how lucky I was as a young child. Many people that I know and were close to, followed Bill Gother’s teachings. After my brother attend one of his seminars, my parents decided that it was far to captivating and controlling, and did not let us pursue it any further. So many of the things I was taught as a young girl are the same principles and really I struggle with so many of the same issues as you do. Like obedience and submission in the family and worrying that God is going to strike you dead if you step out of line, I’m so grateful that I have been able to grow into the Christian woman that I am, trusting God that he will lead me and that I don’t have to follow like a blind sheep because God doesn’t call us to be a blind sheep he calls us to follow the Shepherd. A true Shepherd never leaves his flock of stray. It’s always the wolf who comes in with the appearance of being a shepherd that leads the flock of stray and we need to be wise enough to recognize which one is which. Bless you in your journey to freedom.

Jesus Christ Himself said that false teachers, "wolves in sheep's clothing", would subvert the truth of God's Holy Word, and would lead many people astray. I am so glad that Jinger and Jill and their families are out from under the thumb of this false teacher, ablnd are figuring out what true Christianity really is. I pray that the rest of the young Duggars see it, too, and renounce this false teacher as heretical to The Bible.

Jinger, We’re so happy to see you thriving and walking with the Lord Jesus! ❤ We saw the dangers of the teachings and left the home fellowship after only 6 months or so. We loved your family and continued to remain in contact for a short time. But also felt the teachings were off and we exercised caution. Please pray for our oldest son, Aaron. (I don’t know if you remember him). He is so very lost and holds the short time we fellowshiped with your home church family as “ammunition” against us as “patriarchal, colonialist” haters. (even though we were only there for less than a year and left to find better theological teaching to protect our children!) He’s so very hard hearted and lost. I have hope in the Lord that He can save…!! But it is a long and painful road seeing your child stray. I’m so glad you have Dr. John MacArthur as a pastor/mentor. He’s so spot on!! Praise the Lord for all HE has done!! -❤Cathy Lemay

Loved the show when my boys were young; it changed our life and gave me the encouragement I needed to raise my sons in Truth, discuss and live our faith. Yet as teens and nearly young adults, having a bigger theological discussion and watching the process. The hardship, the familial struggles, and the reality of life. It's hard to watch believers having to walk some of the darkest roads. Yet all things.
Will always be thankful for the Duggars. Thanks Ginger; super appreciate you. While your parents did their best, and did many things right, thank you for bringing clarity to the Gothard teachings.

And this matters because I live in Wheaton and I’ve spoken with local people who now think Wheaton hates women! And they also used my friend’s picture, without her knowledge, a few times in association with Gothard! She was homeschooled but was never associated with him and does not support him.

Its sad to even think hed answer what he thought of his parenting now with an honest answer. We sadly know he'd blame yhe kids that it was their fault. And if he didnt "love them enough " it was on them.

Jinger, your parents and their tv show made you famous and propelled you into prosperity. Stop bashing your family. Without them you wouldn't have this amazing start

Jinger, a lot of these places they're not interacting in teaching the word of the Lord .....its all about money. So they twist words to their own convincing

I believe Jinger is awesome to come through the other side a functioning adult. I just don't understand why she can't speak her truth without it being controlled by her current religion. There are many forms of Christianity some good some bad. Is Jinger trying to push her own beliefs as the only way to worship or is she afraid something will be taken out of context? Sometimes Jinger comes across as being like Gothard. I'm not trying to put her down, I think she's a lovely woman. I just worry that she's traded one absolute belief system for another.

Very wise Jinger. You were correct & discerning. It was sad to see Jill possibly get taken advantage of using her story to make Christianity in general look bad. There is a separation for sure-Bill Gothards teaching were not Biblical. Once I saw DuMez in the documentary I knew they were using Jill to make your family look bad in general sadly. But I think most real Christians could definitely see the difference ❤

Yes, I watched the documentary and I felt that it basically criticized anyone who had conservative Christian views, when not all conservative Christians held those Bill Gothard or fundamentalist views and beliefs. I was turned off by that when I realized that was the opinion that I felt they were pushing. She was very wise not to be associated with the film for that reason.
