    Thanks Sebastian for your work and thoughts on Bitcoin miners. In the last 6 months i made a portfolio of BTC miners in 3 groups: 1G - BTC pure leverage proxi , 2G - BTC+HPC/AI play, 3G - BTC + Infrastruture/M&A play. Let´s see if i can turn a profit due to macro sensitive economic outlook. My portfolio has: MARA, CIFR, BITF, BITD, CORZ, HIVE, SLNH, BTDR AND WULF. All the best and Godspeed.

    Seb, thank you for the research! There's a scramble among big tech companies to control electricity because of AI. Do you agree with that statement? This is means for me that:
    1. CLSKs may not be able to buy capacity because it's not just miners who are after it now. This means their plan is in jeopardy.
    2. Miners with electric capacity are undervalued.
    Q1. Which of the miners do you think have the potential to transition to using their computing power for HPC and AI related tasks?
    Q2. If you rank the miners+HPC/AI, which miners are the most interesting to invest in and why?
    PS I can publish your equity research in Refinitive if interested

    • @SebastianOn
      @SebastianOn  23 дня назад +2

      You're very welcome. There is a scramble among the big tech companies for MW. But the difference is that big tech want those MW to be near large cities, with access to at least 2 large fiber networks, educated applicants and easy access to transportation. Where as the BTC miners don't really care about that. They are happy with getting MW out in the middle of nowhere.
      Q1 - You currently have BTBT, CORZ, HIVE, HUT, IREN that have HPC/AI customers and CIFR, WOLF working on pilot programs. Everyone of the miners that I cover would need to upgrade their facilities to like a tier III data centers. Also not all of the locations are suitable for this. That is why I think and maybe I'm wrong but the CORZ & CoreWeave was just a one in a million deal. I think the big tech (hyperscalers) will build out their own solutions. That way they have full control of the stack, like they do right now. That doesn't mean that they can't buy out one of these miners and scrap the BTC business and just use the MW's for HPC. If we are looking at that way then perhaps IREN, CIFR and WULF would be buyout targets.
      Q2 - CORZ - major HPC/AI deal in place. CIFR/IREN/WULF - buyout potential from Hyperscalers.
      When you say publish on Refinitive, do you mean my data and charts? Reach out to me via email. My email address is listed on the about me page of this youtube channel.

      Mike Alfred recently posted on Twitter that one miner's CEO was nonstop on the phone and in concrete talks with a big player about HPC/AI. I think there's huge potential there. While I partly agree with Seb that not all miners have tier 3 and AI-ready data centers, you don't always need tier 3. Iren is doing an HPC/AI suitability at Childress right now, their air cooling is innovative (super strong wind speeds there) and likely enough for AI.

      @@simonp6339What if AI was capable of self-organization yesterday? Bitcoin, Energy, and Artificial Intelligence: The Connection We Underestimate?
      In recent years, Bitcoin has become a global phenomenon, attracting attention not only from investors but also from technology enthusiasts. However, behind this financial success lies a deeper connection that could radically change the future of technology-a connection between Bitcoin, energy, artificial intelligence (AI), and even current global conflicts.
      Bitcoin as a Powerful Motivator
      Bitcoin, thanks to its decentralized nature, has created a unique situation where millions of people around the world have begun actively participating in its ecosystem. The drive to profit from mining has led to the creation of massive international computing power, which requires significant amounts of electricity. This, in turn, stimulates the development of global energy infrastructure in various regions where energy is more accessible and cheaper.
      But what if we look at this process from a different perspective? Perhaps Bitcoin is not just a tool for making money but a hidden catalyst for preparing the world for the era of AI.
      The Energy Connection
      The process of mining Bitcoin is incredibly energy-intensive. The more computing power required for mining, the more electricity is consumed. While many discuss the environmental consequences of such energy consumption, it is less obvious that these same computing resources can be used for other tasks-for example, AI.
      Artificial intelligence, especially its modern models like deep learning, also requires vast computational resources. By stimulating the development of global energy and computing infrastructure, Bitcoin is effectively preparing the world for the next stage of the technological revolution, where AI will become the dominant force.
      Wars Over Energy Resources and Their Role in the Future
      We cannot ignore the fact that current global conflicts are largely related to the control of energy supply flows. Wars over access to oil, gas, and other energy resources only emphasize the importance of energy in the modern world. It is not just a matter of economic stability but also strategic security.
      These conflicts also affect global energy markets, creating instability and driving up resource costs. In the context of Bitcoin and AI, access to cheap and stable energy becomes a critical factor. Regions with energy resources gain not only economic but also technological advantages. Thus, control over energy becomes a crucial element not only in current conflicts but also in the future distribution of global computing power.
      The Transition from Bitcoin to AI
      When the last Bitcoin is mined, the remaining capacities will not go to waste. The infrastructure created for cryptocurrency mining can be repurposed to support and develop AI. In other words, Bitcoin can be seen as a temporary but extremely important stage on the path to creating a global computing network that will serve the interests of AI. In this context, energy conflicts may be part of a broader process of reallocating resources needed to support these new technologies.
      Bitcoin as Part of AI's Plan?
      This thought may seem bold, but what if Bitcoin was originally conceived as a tool for creating such an infrastructure? Financial interest and the desire to profit have created a global network of computing resources that will soon be used for AI purposes. Bitcoin has become the perfect motivator for spreading this idea and building the international infrastructure that, in the future, may support the most complex AI-related tasks.

      IMO, at the moment, the mkt is all about the expected rate cut in Sept. Am guessing but think risk-on assets may run-up this week in anticipation of JP eluding to a Sept cut when he speaks on 24th at Jackson hole. Then, I think, prices will continue to run-up as a Sept cut becomes more priced-in. My guess, after that, a drop in prices sometime after the cut is announced.

    Sebastian, do you know when the vote by BITF shareholders about the Riot takeover bid will be? Thank you 🙏.
    BTW, IMO, women don't always want their man to, necessarily, analyse and reach a solution to a problem. Mens' minds are problem/solution oriented. Women, on the other hand, often just want to vent and aren't seeking a solution; they just want to be heard. My lady and I have been thru this over and over again for years. Now, I just listen (or pretend to) and wait until she's long since vented...then, at a later point in time, I'll gently float 'possible' solutions.

    • @SebastianOn
      @SebastianOn  23 дня назад +2

      Peter if my memory is correct I think the meeting is going to be held on Oct 29th but it is not about the take over bid, its is about Riot getting their selected board members added to the board of Bitfarms.
      My wife gets pissed at me sometime because I just don't get rattled about things. It's not about me finding a solution or not listening to her. I do listen to what she has to say or just needs get off her chest. Even if at times it is trife in my opinion. In our 19 years of marriage, I think we have only had 2 heated arguments. Otherwise we're one united front. Which is great, cause I don't and she doesn't have deal with the drama that we see and hear others couple going through. I'm lucky to have her.

    Great show.... question about CORZ: Do they have lots of old miners to replace, or is their fleet made up of newer machines?
    Also regarding Bitf vote in Oct... Is it assumed that institutions will vote in riot's favor, because they want the merger to happen? If that is the case, maybe the merger is a good thing? I personally still believe bitfarms should remain independent.

      @SebastianOn so is it fair to say that these miners will likely need to be replaced soon? Is the useful life of these miners getting shorter? The write downs/depreciation seems to be never ending, which doesn't bother me as long as the miners can fund new miners without so much dilution.

    Hey Seb,
    Could you provide a little insight on what's stopping miners like RIOT from also doing an HPC/AI play in regards to their current equipment configuration? Can mining rigs be used interchangeably as processing power for AI (computer power is computer power) or are mining rigs less than ideal. Curious as to whether its a physical limitation or it's an ace in the hole for them once they get their hash rate up.

    • @SebastianOn
      @SebastianOn  23 дня назад +1

      Hi, so Riot's buildings in Corsicana are built for emersion cooling and would not be suitable for HPC/AI workloads. For HPC/AI workloads you need high rack density, redundancies in electrical, cooling, internet. And now the ASIC mining machines can not be used for HPC. ASIC are Application Specific Integrated Circuit, meaning that they are only designed to do one task but do it very well. Just search for the difference between CPU, GPU, FPGA, ASIC and you'll learn more about the different chip designs and how they are best used depending on the application(s).
