    I really enjoy your reviews about cameras in general but I especially love it when you talk about nikon related topics. You always address the good and bad points about a camera or lens from a real world perspective if you know what I mean. Thank you.

      Thanks a lot! I think it is important to cover the ups and the downs and not get blinded by popular opinion or fruitless brand loyalty.

    I enjoy your videos because I like hearing your opinion on these vintage lenses. I also greatly appreciate the amount of detail you go into and how you talk about the idiosyncrasies of the lenses. There’s not much info out there on them, and you’re a great resource for these! The pics are great too and help explain what youre talking about

      Thanks a lot! Great to hear there are people taking something away from my videos. I too was frustrated at how little was out there about old Nikon and Canon gear and had to learn on my own, so I am glad to pass on some knowledge.

    I, for one, do enjoy your videos; keep them coming! I just got a Nikon S2 and am learning about it, so your RUclips channel is a great resource. There's not a ton of material out there on these fine old Nikons, so I appreciate your work. Nice photos too, by the by.

      Thanks that's exactly what I am trying to do. I still need to pick up an S2.

    Intensely interested! Want a zoom portrait lens for my S ! If such a thing exists? Or just an element or filter that allows me in close to models eye lashes pupil mole etc.. I gues what I want is a macro lens for my S nikon. My darling I rescued from the gum filled fingers of sticky bratt? I need a macro for my S. But I may not get it. Thanks for any help or not. Canyou tell me. Is the S prone to light leaks? If so what areas? Can I install black yarn or macromet cord as light seal gasquet or is S already baffled permanently for light sealage with labyrinth joints? Please help, I intend to marry this camera. She may not be as good as the S P or Nikon S3 but Ive saved her from a dusty shelf of disuse and obscurity.😅

      No zooms for range finders. S's are not prone to light leaks unless the shutter is severely damaged. No seals or the yarn fix are needed as they are built to work and work hard not to need constant maintenance lake some other brands.

    Collecting photo equipment, using photo equipment I usually find something that I am not sure of. So it is extremely helpful to find videos such as yours to give me insights as to usage and proper usage or usage of the equipment that I am considering to acquire. I am considering the acquisition of an 85 mm millimeter F2 as I have 2 S2 nikon range finders. Thanks for the video.

      Providing information on lesser know gear is exactly why I do these videos.

    Thanks for this. I recently picked up an sp in great condition in Shanghai, but have had a hard time finding information about compatible lenses.

      Yes that is the main reason behind this channel. Beyond some hard-to-find posts on sites like rangefinder forum, there is not much out there. Glad I can provide some.

    I like your Nikon-S reviews :)! Have you ever tried to get the more affordable Nikkor-P 10.5cm f2.5 or do you think it is rather too heavy for the outer Nikon mount, probably damaging it over time? Best regards from Europe, Gregor

    • @andrewsmithphoto
      @andrewsmithphoto  2 года назад +1

      I have the lens and have been meaning to review it for months. In short it produces very nice images, but I don't shoot telephoto often so rarely use it. It is a heavy lens but I doubt it could damage the mount.

      @@andrewsmithphoto Thanks Andrew for sharing you thoughts on those Nikon lenses :) I hope that I soon get the possibility to try more of them out, those are quite rare pieces in Europe, more common in the US and Japan. Best regards - Gregor

    big Nikon fan/owner and was thinking of getting a SP but opted for the Fuji x100v :/ lovely video either way

    • @andrewsmithphoto
      @andrewsmithphoto  3 года назад +1

      I had an x100s I loved and used for a long time, but it recently died out of the blue. I am considering getting a replacement, but that is one big advantage of old mechanical cameras, they rarely die and can generally be repaired.

    I Have a Zeiss Sonnar F2.0 for my Contax II & III in which a bit stiff in the focusing, But Sharp, as the contrast abit medium range, as ti is softer colors for shooting Color film, Black and white that I have to shoot 400 film to get the contrast, as 125 ISO film goes soft in the range. You said that you place this lens on a digital, and that you have a 85mm Sony lens Master G(In Which that is Really a Minolta G Rokkor AF Lens) Lens on a Sony, Question: "What's is going to look better, and Real? - Film? or a Digital Image from a card that you have to program the camera to shoot like film? Now I do have a 39mm to Fuji X Adapter, and have place my lens on the Fuji model, and even so it has Film Simulation modes on Fuji Films, but realizing that it does not have the quality image because I was not shooting Film! The Filter Ring Size is 48mm.

    Nice vid, thanks für sharing. As I don’t own this lens for my S2 I am interested in opinions. Looks like the prewar lens for the Contax (also the images). Close focus even worse at about 4f/ 1,4cm. Here the larger rangefinder base of the Contax II kicks in pretty well. Would like to see your opinion on the 28...

    • @andrewsmithphoto
      @andrewsmithphoto  3 года назад +1

      It is not a good idea to interchange Contax and Nikon gear due to the focusing mechanics.

    • @sentimental7167
      @sentimental7167 3 года назад +1

      @@andrewsmithphoto been doing that since 15 years, no complaints. You can exchange wide-angles without any problems, 50/2 mostly also ok, be careful on close range, teles don’t swap, see Dante Stella‘s page: www.dantestella.com/technical/compat.html

    Well if you want to focus closer use an ltm version on an m adapter with an M to mirrorless adapter with a built in short extension tube.

    • @andrewsmithphoto
      @andrewsmithphoto  Год назад

      I have thought of this and it would work well on the Sony a7. Buy I really don't think such a set up would natively work on the SP. I also don't have many LTM lenses.

    3 feet vs 3.5 feet on a 85mm lens? Damm, who worries about this issue for a super awesome lens?

    • @andrewsmithphoto
      @andrewsmithphoto  Год назад

      I have heard people claim a camera is totally unusable because the shutter button was on top (as opposed to the front I guess) so it is a valid point, but you have to use one to really know.

    Using lens hoods improve contrast in your photographs, by blocking out stray light. So improve your photo’s by using them …

    • @andrewsmithphoto
      @andrewsmithphoto  3 года назад

      I have had issues with aftermarket lens hoods blocking part of the view (showing up in the corners) so I am always wary. I alos shoot a lot of black and white, I feel it is not as affected by flare as color film.

    • @alberte58
      @alberte58 3 года назад +1

      @@andrewsmithphoto flare is not the issue. Stray light normally not visible on the film/sensor will light up the lens elements with result of loss of contrast on the film / sensor of the subject scene it self. I think this will also effect black/white film exposures. So using lens hoods is a easy way to improve your photographs.
