The colossal wave you're referring to as the biggest ever surfed by Ken if my memory serves me right, was outside Log Cabins. I could be mistaken, but that's how I recall it.
@@izandevainmyheart1129 there's a good story about ken , ken n his room mate charlie walker ( some say he was the best sander ever n worked for jack reeves back in the day n a full on underground big wave guy ) was having a meal n an argument broke out between them n i think charlie told ken his boards were pieces of shit n they got in a full on brawl n it spilled out into kam hwy n after it was all over n done they were both bloodied n they both went back n sat down n finished their meal .........
My family stayed at a house next to Ken's at Sunset this May. He came out to talk the first morning and was super cool, talking to my kids and giving us a lay of the land. We talked a few times over the course of the week and he was great. His daughter Zoee is a shredder.
I was over on Oahu and caught a rare late season swell. I rented a 7’8” gun and paddled out at Sunset. There was only five people out and one was Bethany Hamilton and it was pumping on the sets. Being cautious I stayed wide because these freak west ones were sneaking in wide and were working fine for us mere mortals that didn’t want to risk an inside detonation. Ken was sitting wayyyyy out the north and yelling for all of us to come over. We all declined lol. I caught a freight train that day, roping. Bethany was charging with one arm and quite impressive handling the size. Ken is definitely on another level. Built like a stump. Much respect
When occy was a grom on his first trip to Hawaii him and Ken shared a wave as you would say, both surfers come unstuck and upon resurfacing Ken not being to impressed with what haf happened grabbed occys board and bites a chunk out of the rail and spits it out fibreglass and foam and sends occ to shore never to return Occ paddles in gets to the house he was staying at and some guy he has never met tells him to get straight back out there, occ is unsure and reluctant but the local guy insists and tells occ to " just do it " tell Ken I sent you, occ unsure if he's being set up asks the local "who are you" ....just tell him eddie sent you the local replies..Eddie Rothman
Something similar happened to my then roommate Rusty Moran when he was a teenager. Rusty came home super nervous that Ken yelled at him at Rockies for dropping in. I told Rusty that earlier that same day I sort of invited us to surf the outer reefs with Ken. So I drove him to Ken’s house to apologize. Ken was so happy that a teenager had the humility and balls to do that. We ended up being friends for many years at the very beginning of outer reef surfing. A few young friends with Superman surfing Mountains with no jet skis. Literally a whole exciting and mysterious world to ourselves. Best days ever. He’s a good good dude. He added so much 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

My wife and I were staying at Ken’s rental in sunset maybe 10 years ago when Ken pulled up and said he’d been in town all day taking some pro football players surfing while the pro bowl was in Hawaii. He said the guys couldn’t get past the shore break so he “daisy chained” two of these huge professional athletes behind his board and paddled them out while their teammates were on the shore were dying laughing.
Ken Is one of my most looked up surfers. He is such a great big wave North Shore hero and a good friend. More power to ken B. Much respect and Aloha.
