  • Here is how to fix a sticky lock. If your lock is hard to open and feels sticky when you put the key in, you can lubricate it with graphite powder. This will make the lock open easily like it did when it was new. If you have a lock that is hard to open, this is how to fix it.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if I should use sewing machine oil or graphite powder. You answered it for me.

I've just sprayed my shed padlock with WD40, not knowing not to use that but to use a dry lubricant. What should I do now to get it out of there, before I put in graphite?

I don’t know. I’m not sure what removes WD-40. Maybe rubbing alcohol? At least it dries clean.

@@hoohoohoblin They said at Frontenac Cycle and Sport that WD40 evaporates, so I don't need to do anything to remove it.

@@alanclark7325part of the WD solution evaporates, but it always leaves a residue.

Another locksmith youtuber says never use graphite as it will wear out your lock.

Oddly many videos show using WD40ty. If the lock is cheap & U just want to get it to one to get it off.I would think using WD40tys shouldn't matter on a cheap lock U just want off.
What about using matches to get the lock to open? I see people doing that & it pops right open & seems to B still o.k.
And what about the metal flat piece with a slanted corner? I see people using that to unlock locks that won't open with a key.
I ahve tried & tried to get the lock to open with a key after someone tried to tear the bracket off the door. They got it halfway off & just left it hanging with the screws hanging & the lock still locked.
Why they did that I ahve no idea. There is nothing in there worth anything.
it appears that nothing was taken from the garages they did get the brakes off without getting the locks open.
Why they did that I have no idea since nothing seems to b taken from the garages.
I would still like to get the lock off the bracket so there is no lock on the garages anymore.
I tried to gt the rest of the bracket off but couldn't get it to come off. The screws turn around & around but don't come forward.
How can I get them to come out?
I tried to grab them with plies to turn them that way as I could pull as I turned the screw, but can't get a grip on the screw head so it won't come out.
Any ideas how to get the screws out of the bracket so I can work on the lock off the garage door?
The key just isn't turning the lock even though there is movement when I push on the round loop. Yet the key will not unlock it.
I used WD40ty so can't use graphite. maybe some rubbing alcohol might help?
    Your thoughts?
