I drove up with my mother and did not think anything of it as know one knew who or what was the building being built for. The night me and my mother decided to go drive out there we were meet with a security guard and this guy had two UZI looking guns on both sides of his chest. I think that was the day we realized how important this location was. The location in, Las Vegas, Nevada is located off of Warm Springs. If you ever want to take a look.
I drive past it every day to work! It truly is beautiful. They offer tours if you ever want to go see it! I took the virtual tour, but I am looking to go inside sometime to see it. Looks gorgeous.

Data center capacity (size) hasn't been measured in area occupied in years. Power consumption is the actual measure of "how large" a data center is. So data center size is measured in MW.
That's not a valid method of measure. The servers are continually getting faster, and use less power, especially with SSDs. So measuring by megawatts gives no indication of megaflops or petaflops --or petabytes.
Very interesting. I remember back 10 years ago when virtualization was crushing the data center market and a number of providers went under or were acquired by larger providers. My how things have changed.
Most data centers require huge amounts of water for cooling and here’s switch building out in the desert. Something like water is not being added into the sustainability model.

It’s insane that we are passed the point in wireless networking that spinning hard drives are no longer fast enough to keep up. We are honestly reaching the point where sata or sas based ssds won’t be fast enough to keep up. Only gen 3-5 nvme will be able to keep up with the ever increasing level of bandwidth people are expecting. I have a feeling 16-18tb hdds will be flooding the used market in the coming year or two. Well I guess that’s if the companies who actually use drives that large in raid arrays don’t destroy them for data security. It’s insane that 3 years ago a 1pb server took up massive amounts of space and they were usually pretty slow compared to other devices. Now you can stuff 1pb of sas ssds into a 2u rack and have insane speeds. Now you can stuff 64tb of 15gbps nvme storage into the size of a low profile gpu. I can’t wait to see what manufacturers have in store for us in the near future. I’m hoping for a crazy thundertooth or bluebolt 80gbps wireless connection. I’m hoping for special usb style connectors with full pcie gen 5 x8-x16 bandwidth for insane transfer speeds. I’m hoping for optane memory to be used as a storage tier in ever nvme device. I’m hoping for tri mode u.3 connectors to replace sata connectors on consumer boards allowing you into install any type of storage you want with a single cable, and manufacturers to sell hard drives or ssds with built in nvme or m.2 slots to add your own nvme cache or tier to any drive. But really I’m just hoping rtx 3000 and ryzen 5000 actually go on sale for less than 3x msrp.

@@brodriguez11000 save up like 5,000$ and learn a bit about robotics... long range 915mhz quatcopter with a galium syringe on a x and y axis wire mechanisms so you could cut through the aluminum plating on a door or on a ventilation system without any loud sounds or smoke, then with a very skilled fpv pilot you could design some sort of mechanism (probably epoxy pad and linear actuator with a bit of 3d printed parts) to plug in a airgap bridging device (raspberry pi zero w with a Sim card somehow) into any of the access points that has exposed rj45 terminals, that way you could use any number of mitm attack vectors on the subnet like arp spoofing or Mac spoofing (or other nerd stuff you can look up on stack overflow in like 20 minutes) the objective of the mitm attack would be to somehow get root ssh access to servers on the subnet and plant kernel level rootkits. Ssh can be a bit difficult, because of the implementation of asymmetric encryption which is specifically designed to prevent mitm attacks from capturing credentials so you might want to target things like ftp or smb, or even just skip the damn mitm attack and go for server side exploits but that may me hard to find in a security oriented subnetwork and you would probably get picked up by the NIDS... Ah I'm just blabbing a little, but never suppress your emagination and tell yourself that it's impossible to hack in to something you just gotta put your emagination to work

I dont know if you are aware but the costs of renewable energy are extremely high, generally around $0.09 per KWh, then you also need to account for the fact that all renewable energy sources are intermittent and for this reason they have to have back-up power plants because the energy dips need to be replaced in a matter of seconds and these mostly are natural gas plants. Please don’t come here and tell my I don’t know what im talking about when you’re not literate on the subject.

Datacenters usually shred the harddrives baisicly destroying all the hard work that went into the the thing. Since labor in developed world is costly servers would need to be made easily interchangeable parts from generation to generation. Cases can outlast tech inside for multiple generations :) They could New & more efficient servers 24/7 and older ones on only for peak load if they are not already doing so :)
