Hi Joel, there was a lot of context to this one you weren't aware of. Ren recently wrote down the story of his years of illness and his road back from that, then sat down in front of a camera to read one chapter daily for 8 days. Each chapter ends with one of his songs, and the last chapter ended with this new release that summed up his story. May is M.E./CFS/Lyme Awareness month, this is part of Ren's contribution to that cause. He has been performing the Vera Hall song for years and a random phone clip of him singing it was his first viral video with over a million views. (Personally, I never catch all of a song's lyrics on first listen, so that doesn't effect my feel for it.) Thank you for supporting Ren!
The sample is Vera Hall credit to the orogional ☺️ Moby sampled Vera. But it is catchy

Vera Hall was an American folk singer. The sample was from her most well known song that Moby also sampled, but I don’t think he cleared the sample and probably made lots of money on the back of this and the play album. I seem to remember some cultural appropriation stigma at the time. Ren took the time to clear the sample, explained what it means to him, and this track also marks the end to the Sick Boi album etc. It is worth having a listen to the audio videos he put out in the run up to this release over the last week or so. He just wants to help people in a similar predicament. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen another artist do this before.
I believe Moby donated money to Vera Hall's estate. I feel sure you can look up those details if interested.

Disco doc does a full breakdown on the appropriation conflict with moby -
He paid for the licensing rights but put copyrights on his song natural blues. Since he changed her sample very little, people paid licensing back to moby for Vera hall essentially, and it made him millions overnight.
