Oh bless his heart.. he is really trying to be positive about the only remaining Chrysler vehicle that they sell. Let's be honest. Chrysler is in some real trouble.. I don't think they're going to be here much longer..
We had one of these for 4 years starting in 2017. We LOVED it. It’s the vehicle that convinced us to go full electric. If this came out as a full electric it would be back in our stable.
Rented a top-trim Pacifica (Non-hybrid) moving my kid back from college last May and was absolutely surprised at how enjoyable it was to drive a total of 6h. Although I’ve driven minivans on occasion in the past, I now see why they’ve been so popular, especially with its space and innovative ergonomics. Chrysler not producing an SUV, CUV, or something else (similarly) in the past decade was more than likely an unfortunate miss imo.
In 2019 I traded my 2015 Durango rt for a premium plus s after finding out I was going to be having twins (with a 4 yr old already). It was probably the best vehicle buying decision in my life. It has been the PERFECT family vehicle. I recommend anyone with a family of 5 or more, please please consider a minivan before an SUV. Aside from towing, they're the better family hauler in every possible way. I would also mention that I have a fwd model and the need for awd has never been an issue for me, even in New England with simple Michelin all seasons. And if you really need the boost and don't want the AWD model, dedicated winter tires go a loooooong way.
I own a 2023 Pacifica Pinnacle Hybrid, which I got in March 2023. It now has 36,000 km on it. We love this car; it was the greatest choice we made. In the summer, we barely use any gas and run entirely on electric. Our kids love the entertainment system, which is Amazon Fire TV and basically its a smart TV. It has everything we need, and so far, we’ve had no issues. I highly recommend it for families with kids
Roman, In regard to the CR low rating of the van, let me just add that as a CR subscriber for many years, I take it with a grain of salt. I have owned several Dodge, Plymouth, and 3 Jeeps over many years, and found them all to be very reliable. They have historically been wrong on the cars I’ve owned. Our 2019 Wrangler S is very reliable, no death wobble, nothing. My 2015.5 Volvo S60 is great, best car I’ve ever owned, and very underrated. I look at TFL reviews and other online extensive reviews being more accurate. Thanks for the review here.
You really have to read the individual write ups on each vehicle with CR. They seem to measure all recalls the same. This one has 3 recalls for software updates that didn’t affect drivability and that one has one recall for the transmission falling out of 70% of cars. I have rented a Pacifica 11 times now. Rented everything from the basic touring to the plug-in hybrid model. What I liked the most was the basic FWD touring model with the 17” wheels. It’s well-equipped, rides well and the best value. Upper trims have more bells and whistles, but I can do without the panoramic roof, lower profile tires, park assist, etc..
We own a 2022 Pac Hy and overall it’s been a great van. I don’t care about the “stigma” with vans, to each their own. It’s been a supremely comfortable van. We live in FL and have driven it to Montana/Colorado/Utah/Wyoming/Idaho and all over the mountains of NC with zero problems at all. It fits our family of 5 comfortably and has room for everything we need. It’s so easy to flip the seats down, throw our huge beach wagon and paddle board into, and we’re off. When at home most of my driving is 100% electric, I average 38 EV miles, and if not on a road trip, only get gas once every 3 months or so. We’ve estimated the electric cost of ownership per month is about $50 depending how often I charge. I don’t charge it every day. My only complaint is I really am concerned about the long term reliability of Chryslers. I have a friend that has the same van but 2 years older and 66k miles and she’s about to trade hers for a Sienna. Hers has had total power loss on the freeway multiple times, and Chrysler just issued a recall for 2017-2021 Pac Hybrids that they should not be charged or parked in the garage due to fire risks! While so far this isn’t affecting my vehicle, it does make me very concerned. The depreciation in value has also been shocking. I know Chryslers are not a Toyota or Honda in terms of reliability, but we paid $47k for our Pacifica 15 months ago and right now with 22k miles, KBB value is approximately $28k for excellent condition! That’s really abysmal IMO. I’m hoping it lasts us 2 more years, and we will probably trade it for a used EV9 or what I’d really love is a Sienna Prime!!
@@directorjustinthat’s right- I’ve owned 2 PHEV’s; a RAV4 Prime and now the Pacifica PHEV. You don’t have to charge it at all if you don’t want to, without the charging it’s simply a hybrid vehicle. Mileage regeneration is very real and definitely helps your overall mpg.
Chrysler needs to bring back the Town and Country as a cheaper van. Also, Dodge needs to bring back the Caravan because all 3 were in the top 5 of best-selling vans, and each one was different. Dodge and Chrysler always made good cars and vans. Don't know why they forgot that.
I bought a new 2017 Pacifica Touring L-Plus (leather, upgraded wheels, 8-passemger seating package, rear entertainment system) in March of 2017. The MSRP was roughly $42K and I bought it for $38,500 plus TTL. That felt like a great value. Looking at the 2024 version of Pacifica: These vans have not seen enough design/tech/engineering/performance upgrades to fetch the current prices.
Yeah I’m not sure why the price is spiking so high when they’ve done almost zero to update them other than slowly take away various options on the lower trims.
The all new 2024 Toyota Sienna is also a hybrid. In fact, it is only offered as a hybrid. Plus, it comes in AWD. It gets 42 mpg combined & has seats for 8 people. In your area of Colorado, an AWD, 8 passenger model starts at $41,080.00. The Sienna, surprisingly is an all around better deal.
@@witchdoktor69 31 miles of EV driving is 31 more miles than you get in any other minivan. It absolutely is a big deal. Could it be better? Of course. But even at 31 miles, the average American driver is going to drive more as an EV than as a hybrid.
@@witchdoktor69 Sienna does not have electric mode. Does not have stow and go middle row. Performance is worse and motor is buzzy. Sienna has some advantages but it is not "hands down" better.
I can't imagine being a Chrysler dealer with one new vehicle to sell...I assume most picked up a Jeep, Dodge and Ram as part of their franchise. Having said that, we have a 2017 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite with 104,000 miles on it. We just did the big service which includes timing belt, water pump, plugs etc...I'm curious as to the fuel capacity as the Odyssey, gets about 500 to 550 miles on a tank of gas averaging about 28 plus MPG if driven prudently on the highway.
I agree. However I don’t think there’s such thing as just a Chrysler dealership. I’ve always seen them paired with Jeep or Ram or Dodge. The Odyssey is dated and Honda needs a new generation but Honda for sure over this piece of junk.
@@user-pgchargerse71 Back in the day they were usually paired with Plymouth and Imperial when it was a stand-alone brand. Even with Jeep and Dodge, the product portfolio is getting a bit sparse.

AWD is a luxury, not a necessity. That said, the name Chrysler is fading into the past, and that is sad. I'm glad WPC is not around to witness this sad state of affairs with his company. Heck, the WPC museum is gone. 🤔
My non hybrid just completed a trip where I got just over 600mi on one tank of fuel, averaging 32mpg, I don't see the benefit of the Hybrid, given their track record of issues and lack of stow and go.
Hopefully the next gen will be a series hybrid like the upcoming Ramcharger. It will eliminate the cost of the transmission and allow them to use a 4 cylinder instead of a six.
The benefit is a large amount of your driving is clean, quiet, smooth, uses no fuel at all, and can be replenished at home on a regular 120 Volt outlet instead of going to a gas station. Some owners report having a tank of gas last months because they use so little.
@@JD-yx7be Series hybrids are less efficient than parallel hybrids. Converting potential energy (fuel) to mechanical energy (spinning shaft from engine to motor/generator) to potential energy again (battery) then back to mechanical energy again (spinning shaft from motor/generator to wheels) loses more energy to three conversion processes than with a parallel hybrid which only does one. This means the engine would have to be more powerful to make up the losses, not less.
My problem is the gear shift.Looks like the volume button and multiple times myself. And passengers in my car have accidentally touched it , which could cause a serious accident
The irony here is that minivans helped save Chrysler back in the 80's. But I would not be surprised if this minivan becomes the Chrysler brand's final product. Stellantis is in trouble with its cash cows, Ram and Jeep. And with all the other brands the holding company has to worry about in its too-diverse portfolio, it would be easy to kill the Chrysler brand. Particularly so since Carlos Tavares has announced the need to cut expenses by 30% in North America.
Interesting how Carlos keeps closing perfectly good factories in an attempt to “cut costs” and “remove partially capacitated” factories when he’s the one killing the Chrysler and Dodge models one by one with no replacement in the pipeline. I’ve never ever seen such a dumb CEO in my life. He’s shooting Stellantis in the foot, yet thinks the management is flawless and the cost cutting being required from the ones that actually sustain the company. Dumb dumb.
If they could have, again COULD HAVE made a cheaper van, Chrysler may have had large sales of the van. Many who need vans are struggling for the means to purchase them due to very high prices.
They did make a cheaper version called the Voyager which still used the older styling. You can still order or get the Voyager if your dealer stocks them
The all new 2024 Sienna is hybrid only. He forgot that information. It is also offered in AWD and with seating for 8. 42 mpg combined. Starts at $41,080.00
You would think after all these years of making this van that Chrysler would have a reliable product but unfortunately that’s not the case. That’s definitely their best engine so that’s nice but all the electronic issues should have been ironed out by now.
Beware of buying the hybrid variant. LOTS of problems and resale value is horrendous for them. I personally have the non-hybrid, and it’s just fine, but I HATE the fact that it has no spare tire.
Complaining about a gear shifter is something that is kinda dumb to me. Potential owners figure it out once and are good to go. The only people who dislike new controls/shifters are car reviewers because they drive different vehicles all the time and never get used to anything
I wonder if they replace the van with a new Dodge Grand Caravan built on the new Dodge Charger EV platform a all electric minivan it be a first for sure
Give me a spare tire please! Get the non hybrid, without having second row stow and go, this choice loses its main advantage over the competition. My garage is full, I wont be storing any removed second row seats there.
I have fond memories of road trips with my parents in their Plymouth minivan in the 80's. Most comfortable vehicle on road trips that I've ever travelled in. However, I would only purchase a Toyota or Honda minivan today.
PHEVs aren't competitive with EVs. They're too little for too much money. A 2011 Chevy Volt had 35 miles of EV range. This 13 year newer vehicle has less EV range than that car did. While some EV range is still better than none, this vehicle should have more EV range or be cheaper.
I love the Pacifica, but all trims are $10K overpriced for what they are. At $60K, this car is a hard pass, a hard laugh. Chrysler needs to be an approachable brand, and once you crest $50K for one of these, the scenario is not adhering to good family values.
Love TFL!! Wish Chrysler would have borrowed more of Alfa Romero platforms. 300 did have a good run w/ its Daimler parts. Good review Roman ! Besides the upcoming Carnival hybrid … also have the Toyota Sienna hybrid and option of Awd w/ Toyota. Rented a Pacifica … ZF 8 speed and legendary 3.6 pentastar is great … but , have always worried about FCA/Stellantis products based on previous vehicles.
It's not the ZF8 speed that everyone praises, it's the ZF 9-Speed used for transverse applications. Kind of a not-great transmission in terms of reliability as mileage starts getting up there (it's not terrible with regular fluid changes)
Who's gonna buy that thing when there's so many good options in the market right now They should be ashamed of themself offering that to the public Only car rental places are Potential buyers. You going to see dealers ships Pushing those vehicles to people who doesn't have good credit And then tell them here you're approved for a Pacifica!!!!
I lived in 94 as an exchange student in upstate New York with a real hard winter and lots of snow. Nobody at my host family, their friends and neighbours had a pick up or a SUV. They all had sedans, coupès or vans with either fwd or rwd. Out here in my region in Germany the winters are not that hard but nobody with AWD neither.
Year 2000 came and went, so why do so many reviewers insist on saying “two thousand and seventeen”? Would it not be more fluid to just say “twenty seventeen “?
Chrysler is dead. Not being dramatic. It’s dead. Literally no ads, no marketing, no future products, and nothing has been teased that’s coming soon. Dodge is in bad shape but I’ve been saying it for years that Chrysler is in a really bad position. It is dated. It’s had tons of recalls and it’s not worth the price on the sticker. Plus, when people think of vans now they think Sienna, Odyssey, or the Carnival. It sucks because Chrysler has had some cool products in the past but they really just let it die. If I’m not mistaken, the plan for Stellantis was that by 2026 or just past, you had to turn a profit. Im not sure how Chrysler can do that with a minivan… lol.

@directorjustin That’s right, it's just a guess. That's not what he said though. They can always fix these errors in post production. But they don't.
Looks are subjective, but this is by far the best looking MPV! Unfortunately you can't get it in the UK 😢
You would think after all these years of making this van that Chrysler would have a reliable product but unfortunately that’s not the case. That’s definitely their best engine so that’s nice but all the electronic issues should have been ironed out by now.
I am continually amazed that reviewers call something a charger when in reality it is a glorified extension cord with no charging capability at all
Beware of buying the hybrid variant. LOTS of problems and resale value is horrendous for them. I personally have the non-hybrid, and it’s just fine, but I HATE the fact that it has no spare tire.
These are gonna marked down 20% to move them and even then at 40+k is really worth it?
The gas version is better priced and has stow in go folding middle seats. And would bet better long term reliability.
But you're giving up a big benefit of having a partial EV.
Complaining about a gear shifter is something that is kinda dumb to me. Potential owners figure it out once and are good to go. The only people who dislike new controls/shifters are car reviewers because they drive different vehicles all the time and never get used to anything
I mean, the dial makes more sense for a button. But doing a 3 point turn is a pain in the ass with the buttons over a lever.
True @@atmartens
Beautiful van, drives the best out of all the competition. 9 speed in the ICE version is super smooth. But it's totally overpriced and unreliable.
Isn’t the Sienna a hybrid??
I have fond memories of road trips with my parents in their Plymouth minivan in the 80's. Most comfortable vehicle on road trips that I've ever travelled in. However, I would only purchase a Toyota or Honda minivan today.
I am a little disappointed Chrysler never put a Hemi in it.
Only Plug-in Hybrid Minivan
I wanna see Andrey hypermile test the range.
The pacifica's been a lemon in most people's reviews
$40k is fine, but to ask $64k.😂😂😂
Price the brakes on the S....dealer only and 2800 in Canada. Nuts.
looks like minivan to me not a car
PHEVs aren't competitive with EVs. They're too little for too much money. A 2011 Chevy Volt had 35 miles of EV range. This 13 year newer vehicle has less EV range than that car did.
While some EV range is still better than none, this vehicle should have more EV range or be cheaper.
Only V6 Hybrid vs an i4 or Turbo i4
I love the Pacifica, but all trims are $10K overpriced for what they are. At $60K, this car is a hard pass, a hard laugh. Chrysler needs to be an approachable brand, and once you crest $50K for one of these, the scenario is not adhering to good family values.
Worth it when you have 5 kids and for the stow and go trim! 😎👍
You don't need AWD just because it snows in your area, that is so stupid. Winter tires have never been better.
But it's nice
@@stevekniess3665 Emotional response.
@@stefanfalldorf6573 I live in Maine. Snow tires do just fine
AWD makes it so much better.
Nope. Chrysler needs to reduce the price. Especially since the company is struggling financially.
I guess everyone has a price?😮
i just got a crew cab gmc sierra 5.3 4x4 2024 for 59k otd!
That’s nothing to brag about when dealers are offering major discounts on their full size pickups.
Toyota Sienna??
I think he meant the only plug in hybrid
CR says buy the non hybrid
Year 2000 came and went, so why do so many reviewers insist on saying “two thousand and seventeen”? Would it not be more fluid to just say “twenty seventeen “?
Who refers to grown children as kiddos?
Been seeing quite a few Pacifica adds lately.
Roman's gaining 5 lbs. per week.
1. I don’t see it.
2. I bet you’re over 300lbs.
He’s spending some of that Toyota commercial money on groceries. Chrysler probably slipped him an envelope to review this dinosaur 🦕
