This is definitely gonna be a fun build to follow along with. I’ve had my blue 26” for a little more than 5 years now and I still love it. Mine is original color, but only the bottom bracket and cranks are left from the stock setup. Looking forward to seeing how you build yours out. So cool 👊

WHEELS - In all my 'big bike' (26er and 29er) builds I've always relied upon Sun/Rhyno Lite wheels. My current (smaller) build is a 20-inch Haro Freestyler 40th anniversary, in which I picked up a set up the Haro Lineage 48 spoke chrome wheels. If you remember these mimic the old-school Perigrine Super Pro HP 48's. This being said I believe Sun Ringle/Rhyno Lite/Sun Rhyno (whatever they are) make a 48-spoke hoop. This GT you're building would look awesome in a set of 48-spoke wheels!! ...whether you get them in polished, or have them powder-coated white.. I do understand the yellow Eddie Fiola did have mags on it... ether way I'm excited for you to build this! Please try to stick to the GT roots; don't add a bunch of Technique/Bullseye/Paul stuff to it. Keep it old-school best you can, bro!! 👍😎
Totally trying to keep this build more old school! Appreciate the info on the Sun Ryno Lites. I love the look of the GT hubs! I ended up getting some alloy mags in white to try and get as close as I can to the Skyways that he had on his bike. They arenʻt going to match totally but I hope itʻll look close enough. I also picked up some old school Dia Compe brakes for the front and both brake levers are Dia Compe too! Also got some pedals that look like the Shimano DX pedals that were on that bike. Last year, I bought the 29" GT Heritage Pro Performer in Maui blue. I made only a few esthetic modifications on it to make it looks even better than the stock one. I am completely satisfied by my purchase, and it is my favorite bike so far ! The GT hubs looks awesome, so I think you should keep these wheels instead of putting mags on it. Now, I would love to get a 26" Pro Performer but I am waiting for GT to make it in a great colorway again … Can’t wait to see the result of your built ! 👀

Hi I have been watching your videos for a while and love the banter between you two, make it very relatable. When it comes to replacing the crown race, make sure to get the same otherwise the headset may not work as it should, there are many different shapes of crown races so it's important to get the right one for this bike. The wrong crown race could damage your headset bearings and cause it not to preload properly. looking forward to your new build and will be watching! Keep it up.

At the beginning I was guessing you were going to go blue. I was going "NO! Gotta be Fiola yellow!" 😂 Good choice. Ive got the 2018 Pro Performer 29 yellow. Came with the decals you're doing too. I love my 29 and fits me well, but kinda wish it was a 26 so as to feel more like a BMX should. Enjoy your 26.

@cruisinginthe808 I've previously checked out BMX Museum discussions for a Ral number for the paint and couldn't find a definitive answer to what Ral paint number they used. As decals are repro maybe best bet is to get them first. The yellow inside lettering on original is same as rest of frame so if repros decals have yellow already match that yellow used.
I just bought this same bike like 5 days ago. I've never owned a real bike before. I grew up on huffy. Lol. My cousins tho who had a lot more money than we did. Were sponsored and rode for teams. They always had awesome bikes. Now at 42 I have one. I ride everyday. I love this bike because it's pretty nimble but will also cruise. I live in Dallas Georgia. We have what's called the silver comet trail. It use to be railroad tracks. Now it's paved with parks every couple of miles. It's like 80 miles long I think. I rode 27 miles Saturday morning. This bike is so awesome.

Even the high end bike comes with the wheels in the crank arms. The color way was the old classic colors tossed on one frame. Run some 27.5 wheels the 29er make the bike so tall

Depends on what shape the frame is in. If it’s naked without any coatings it’s cheaper. If they have to remove old paint then it’ll be more expensive. Could run you anywhere from $80 to $300. Just depends. Hope this helps!! Thanks for watching! 🤙🏼

I have a 2021 gt world tour 29 in Maui blue I got it at a great price I’m in Australia it came with a freewheel the bike lives in my Lounge room anyways when I work out how to make videos I will post them up for you and Bernie I’m 41 so my stunt days are over so I’m a cruiser these days

Fiola yellow is cool too. I had a 2010 Quad in tennis ball yellow, once. I wanted to love it but we grew apart, and I traded it. Next video, show a pic of what it’ll look like! Cheers!

I have that exact bike and have done hundreds of miles on it, you can buy them in the UK for £375 now, and yes the bike has really good quality parts, I just don’t understand buying the bike in that colour scheme then painting it, it replicates the colour schemes available on the 1987 pro performer, everywhere I go people comment how much they like that colour scheme, it’s in the DNA of that frame, it seems like sacrilege to me, maybe pick a different bike guys, they do a GT Performer heritage 29” with that same frame shape, this one’s definitely a thumbs down for me guys sorry, I still love you tho.
Sorry man...I really donʻt like that color scheme. Iʻm going to paint it yellow and do a Eddie Fiola tribute bike and try and copy what he had on his bike. If you like yours thatʻs cool man. Thatʻs the cool thing about all of this, we can do whatever we want with our own bikes just like when we were kids. I knew friends who spray painted their bikes to get a different color. In the end, itʻs about what you want and so thatʻs what Iʻm going with. I appreciate the feedback and hope that when itʻs all said and done, that you donʻt cringe too much at the color! @@cruisinginthe808 sorry man, I might’ve gone in a bit hard on you, you know what GT fans are like, a bit die hard, I think I still have left over 80s guilt lol, getting a new bike was and still is for me a massive thing and taking a brand new bike and re-spraying it is just so unnatural, back then we’d probably be thinking of a paint job by about year 3 of ownership, 3 summers and winters of hard falls and it was ready for it, I know that’s not the modern way of thinking, you turn out some amazing bikes and I’m sure it’ll look fantastic, but secretly I’m wincing thinking about those stickers getting peeled and that paint blasted 🫣😱

It’s actually going to be painted yellow to mimic the bike Eddie Fiola rode for GT. I’m trying to make it look just it did when he rode it. I’m just not a fan of this multi color paint scheme and had this idea for the Fiola tribute bike awhile back. Hoping it turns out ok! Thanks for watching! 🤙🏼
These retro bikes, are over priced and nothing like the originals. A Performer should have front & rear brakes, gyro, and fork standers. Manufacturers cashing in on nostalgia. Ok, I'm a bit salty because I can't afford one 😂.

I think most of the guys riding these bikes nowadays either are fine without ʻem or will end up putting it on themselves if they really want to. I use a Park Tool CRP-2 crown race puller to remove the crown race on the forks.

Interesting that the mallet stem on this bike comes with black bolts, the one on my dyno came with stainless.

I have that exact bike and have done hundreds of miles on it, you can buy them in the UK for £375 now, and yes the bike has really good quality parts, I just don’t understand buying the bike in that colour scheme then painting it, it replicates the colour schemes available on the 1987 pro performer, everywhere I go people comment how much they like that colour scheme, it’s in the DNA of that frame, it seems like sacrilege to me, maybe pick a different bike guys, they do a GT Performer heritage 29” with that same frame shape, this one’s definitely a thumbs down for me guys sorry, I still love you tho.
Sorry man...I really donʻt like that color scheme. Iʻm going to paint it yellow and do a Eddie Fiola tribute bike and try and copy what he had on his bike. If you like yours thatʻs cool man. Thatʻs the cool thing about all of this, we can do whatever we want with our own bikes just like when we were kids. I knew friends who spray painted their bikes to get a different color. In the end, itʻs about what you want and so thatʻs what Iʻm going with. I appreciate the feedback and hope that when itʻs all said and done, that you donʻt cringe too much at the color! @@cruisinginthe808 sorry man, I might’ve gone in a bit hard on you, you know what GT fans are like, a bit die hard, I think I still have left over 80s guilt lol, getting a new bike was and still is for me a massive thing and taking a brand new bike and re-spraying it is just so unnatural, back then we’d probably be thinking of a paint job by about year 3 of ownership, 3 summers and winters of hard falls and it was ready for it, I know that’s not the modern way of thinking, you turn out some amazing bikes and I’m sure it’ll look fantastic, but secretly I’m wincing thinking about those stickers getting peeled and that paint blasted 🫣😱

It’s actually going to be painted yellow to mimic the bike Eddie Fiola rode for GT. I’m trying to make it look just it did when he rode it. I’m just not a fan of this multi color paint scheme and had this idea for the Fiola tribute bike awhile back. Hoping it turns out ok! Thanks for watching! 🤙🏼

These retro bikes, are over priced and nothing like the originals. A Performer should have front & rear brakes, gyro, and fork standers. Manufacturers cashing in on nostalgia.

😂 Itʻs all good man! I hear ya! Yeah, to truly be an old school bike you need all of those things for sure. I think most of the guys riding these bikes nowadays either are fine without ʻem or will end up putting it on themselves if they really want to. But yeah, that would cost more money and drive up the price even more. I canʻt even imagine some factory putting on gyros! That would be a nightmare! 😂 Appreciate the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
