I think that might be a bess beetle. I keep them as pets. They are social beetles that form colonies in rotting logs. They form tunnels in the logs and eat the rotting wood and fungus in the logs. The parents communally raise and feed the young grubs. They also communicate with each other by sqeaking. They are pretty cool and they get quite large :-).
