Man you break it down better than anybody else ive seen on halibut fishing. Your channel and business flourish no doubt! I will support and puechase some merchandise. Do you carey childrens clothes too? Would be cool to have all my kids matching me lol
Thanks budddy!!! I pour my hard work into understanding these fish and sharing what I am learning with you, so it's super satisfying to read a comment like this. I don't stock youth sizes yet, but do have all the California Surf Fishing (CSF) merch in size small: www.casurffishing.com/shopall And a few youth-sized Battlestar gaiters listed on eBay, just one of each cuz they were samples, too small, so I listed them on eBay as youth sized: BLACK www.ebay.com/itm/225686371820 and BLUE www.ebay.com/itm/225686373091 and RED www.ebay.com/itm/225686375764 Once they're gone they're gone. But I'll keep the youth-sized idea in mind for future merch.
Broooo, I loved the video and your explanations of different types of water and where you have the best chances to catch were incredibly helpful. Thank you.
My pleasure! It's very satisfying to contribute my all to the community, and help the new guys, so comments like yours are feedback that I'm doing something right. THANK YOU!
I really appreciate the detailed info including your equipment. It has given me some good ideas on where to fish in my area. Thanks. I especially loved your advice on releasing the fish . It really pains me when fisherman treat the shorts roughly. I know some people can’t resist keeping shorts because they are such good eating , please don’t do that. Let’s keep the halibut fishery healthy,
I’m a novice fishing and there are many things that I still don’t know or don’t understand about fishing, but your video clarified many doubts I had about the quality of the water, thank you 👍
Your humor cracks me up… and your surf fishing stoke is infectious. Stay blessed my brother. Still on the hunt for my first legal halibut. I’ve caught many but no legals. I bought Gary’s book as well. I’m determined to get good at this
Thanks bud! That warms me right up reading that comment :) Good move, buying Gary's book! GOLD! He's been a big influence on my own learning curve, and I learn a lot from him, and enjoy fishing with him! Good luck in your hunt! Each spot tends to hold more or less big/small butts, so maybe try fishing other spots when searching for your first legal size hali. But the real secret is like I always say SLOW LOW & STEADY.. that's what gets the bigger more experienced fish to bite. Crawl it on bottom like a snail. As slow as you can go, without getting snagged ;) I'm gonna leave a link to Gary's book here in case anyone else is interested. www.californiasurffishing.net/book
Yummy. Great explanation and its nice to see an experet confirm what I have suspected for a while - a bit of churn in the water is fine for surf fishing, just not blackout chocolate milk.
It’s my goal to catch a halibut from shore this year….ever since watching the video you and Ed did last summer. Maybe to early but going to try and hit it end of month
Great video man! Thanks for sharing all this info, it's very helpful. I'm just getting into fishing for halibut from shore, starting out in SF bay and the water's been very brown like what you described the past two times I went out.
Thanks very much. It was a ton of work. I’ve become determined to produce the best quality vids I can. I’ll get one some hot bites and then crank out another one. Thanks for watching.
Great idea. I should probably do a video to focus just on planning, apps, condition forecasts… I use For waves surf-forecast.com and Surfline app .. the Surfline app also provides water temp Wind - I use windy app Tides, I have an iOS app called “Tides” you see the screenshots of it in this video. For weather I just use the standard apple weather app or sometimes weather channel app I’m gonna get into this new app that my friend Danny Ruiz is developing, you can sign up at fishnotify.com enjoy!
I love Vandenberg man. Sept is the best time to be there. I would probably join you. Will you please add me on FB so we can chat? facebook.com/VincentAChiofalo?mibextid=LQQJ4d
Your videos have been somewhat scarce. Busy or no catches? This video is super cerebral analysis of water quality and "butt" fishing. Last week I tried perch/striper/halibut fishing in Santa Cruz's super calm surf. Waters at 3 beaches were ugly chocolate dirty?? With only a few hours to fish. Not good!! Maybe I need to try AV breach or way out around the point.
I’ve been mega busy organizing a million projects. Prioritizing and planning. Not fishing as much as I was, but I’ll get back to it. Sorry to hear your Santa Cruz trip didn’t work out. Yeah plenty of halibut are being caught get out there.

You connect the lure directly to the braid, no fluoro leader?
No leader. Straight braid 100%
