    Well done Matt, that's dedication for you, fishing in sub-zero temperatures! It paid off though, you had some nice dabs, and you took some beautiful atmospheric footage, great stuff, and thanks for putting the effort in.

    Genius move with the mylar strip on the barb, you're onto something! Fun part about fishing are the little discoveries with changing bait/rigs.

      @@SaltwaterAngler I'm on the West Coast of the US but we have a pretty good flounder/halibut/flounder fishery here so any tips or advice I can glean are appreciated. Nice to see you had a good day and thanks!

    Nice presentation mr saltwater, good to see you dabbling with a few ideas, always interesting .🧐 played around myself ( with rigs that is ) in the past and my personal conclusion’s are this . Gone off beads except when drifting for plaice in a boat. Bite misses deffo increased with bling, not so important when pleasure fishing but not good in matches. Rig length depended on tide strength. Best bait sticky black or very old ragworm often tipped with strip of herring or pilchard or dare I mention a strip of kipper 🎣🤷 all presented as naturally as possible . Enjoy them tasty dabs they are a treat 😋 and I thank them for turning up at a time when all we are left with is pins and slugs till the plaice show. Thanks for sharing . Happy new year

    I love a bit of dab fishing, so really enjoyed this video! Thanks. Sadly we don't get them where I fish mostly, but thinking of a roadtrip soon to find some. It's hard to explain to some people why catching tiny little flatties is so satisfying. There's just something wonderfully simple about them that reminds me of when I was young and learning how to fish!

    Lovely stuff. We'll done on getting in the cold! I've got a pair of Berghaus Deluge overtrousers to keep me dry. I learned by accident they're very good at keeping out a strong cold winter wind.

    Great vid again Matt, interesting what you said about the beads being more popular than the bait, Ive been experimenting with beads and its showing interesting results, Large white beads around 10mm seem very sucsessful used singally also something I learned from international match anglers was to increase the neutral boyuncy of the baited hook compensating for the weight of the hook, I do this by using a short length of white foam put on the hook before the bait. I usually use a smaller length of worm tipped off with a small piece of squid.

    Great video Matt relaxing as always. I like to put half a worm on with a small squid tip for Dab, it does attract the Whiting though !

    I used to be very much into putting beads on my snoods. Until couple of years ago, Catching many more fish which I never got when using them. I only ever use beads in summer when using popups now.

    Bassman did the same thing with a camera, and whitting and bass would frequently attack the beads. Try using crystal or red clear beads for the rigs if you make them.

    Looks like you got plenty of dabs to eat, they're delicious, aren't they. What really suprised me was how big they were. I used to fish off Herne Bay back in the mid 1950s, it was a great place for them but they were a lot smaller, no size limits then. Talking of size limits our approach to conservation then was completely different to what is practised nowadays. For example the ideal keeper eating sized bass was about 30cm, pan sized. Anything over 40cm would be put back, we never kept the larger fish.

    Nice video......again, thank you for the content. Further to your fish tail & foil bait. Have you heard the one about kippers ? I shit you not ! I wouldn't repeat this at the start of April, but a sliver of kipper will have dabs crawling up the beach. Try it & thank me later, tight lines. love your channel

    I don’t know if it has anything to do with the colour of the beads you use for shore fishing but when i was fishing the wrecks for cod they were really attracted to deep blue lures

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  День назад

    • @stealthy1328
      @stealthy1328 15 часов назад

      @SaltwaterAngler Yep and I have caught a dab in huge swells at dark before from a pier. It seems like they don't care about the conditions much, as long as there's something there for them to eat. Needed to use a 7oz grip lead to make sure it held bottom. Unusual for sure, I couldn't beleive it myself when I caught it, but I'm glad I had a scratching rig out for that occasion.

    Personally i think all those fluo stuff is a load of ..... because it is bloody dark down there . The only thing i saw i would change is that you use to much bait for dabs , try pieces of 4cm withhook size nr. 6 and you will get less rattles and catch more , i'm doing this for 35 years now in dab season . 😁👍👍

  • @pietjepuk9575
    @pietjepuk9575 18 часов назад +1

    So they need to make tasty fluo beads so we can fish with no bait and much cheaper . 🤣😂👍👍👍👍
