Really well-made video and wonderful scenery. I live near the old Somerset and Dorset, the line for which these 7Fs were built, and often walk along the disused trackbed across the Mendips. It is easy to imagine the engines working hard up the 1 in 50. These engines were designed by the Midland Railway at Derby, which during its' independent existence never built anything larger than a 4F 0-6-0 for general goods traffic on its' own lines. Did I see a Super D just past the 19 minute mark? The Midland's loco crews must have passed many an envious glimpse at the S&D 2-8-0s and even the Super Ds built by the Midland's greatest rivals from Crewe.
Nice video. This lovely loco belongs on the s&d. I recently visited Midsommer norton south and this loco would look great going through chilcompton tunnel😍we all can dream I guess
Most graceful and purposeful looking freight loco ever. Sure footed S&D stalwart. Be great to see her and no8 back on the S&D one day.
I like 7Fs they are my favourite locomotives!

One day,808 and 809 will both be back home on the S&D.
I know this loco from the WSR , it has to work hard there but not as much as that climb to Goathland from Grosmont . Thanks for shareing .
I should of said Grosmont to Goathland . Sorry .
And nowhere near as hard as she did on the S&D! One day she'll blast through Midsomer Norton again.
Brilliant.Well filmed as well.

Very good video, Thank you. Something I can never do. :(
Good video! She sounds great!
Does anyone know what the water coming from the coal chute was for? Was it for fire prevention, or just rainwater?
My guess would be damping the dust
Roger Adams Thanks
Its just to keep the coal dust down Jonathon.
