Doing a repair is definable doable (no soldering is required) and would make for a fun video, however do be warned that replacing 3ds top screens are a huge pain in the ass. You have to disassemble almost the entire thing to get to the top screen, then you have to curl up 3 ribbon cables to get them trough the tiny hinge, while making sure none of them gets damaged.
If you are going to attempt it i highly recommend looking at a tutorial video for how it should be done.
It also would 100% be worth it for the monetary value, since you can get 3ds replacement screens for about 10$ on aliexpress

Top screen repair is probably one of the most simple but most annoying fixes. Can get a replacement top screen then you pretty much have to take the whole thing apart to replace it. Worst part is fishing the ribbon cables and wires through the hinge

That was a fun surprise despite the outcome, I was so invested! I’d definitely try to repair it because selling it for parts doesn’t seem worth it. Love this channel!

From looking at other RUclipsrs who do repairs and mods it seems to be an ok if tedious and annoying fix. Def worth holding onto it and seeing whether you want to try the repair or get someone with experience to do it.

That's wild to me that Value Village priced this so high withouttestingand no return policy. I probably would've risked $50-60 on it but I wouldn't have spent $100

The ribbon cables are...SO annoying cause you have to curl them and pass them through the hingesssssss. But that's the only annoying part. I could pay a service to repair the top part and keep the 3ds since it's somewhat rare

I havent repaired a 3ds before but I've fixed a ps2, opened up and cleaned all my consoles, put new save batteries in game cartridges. There is a set of tools on amazon I bought that includes all the screwdrivers and stuff you'll need for most consoles. I recommend getting that if you havent already.

You can try and reach out to Nintendo themselves and have them fix it. I recently had them fix my original 2ds xl. Wish you luck man

Risk with that is they ‘repair’ it and then send him a different model.

No such thing as untested consoles especially for expensive handhelds anymore.

No matter which model, I find a way to break them. The 3DS is one of the most fragile systems I've ever owned. The original 3DS I have is irrepairable at this state.
