- Ain’t She Sweet? Fox-Trot (Ager-Yellen) - Piccadilly Revels Band, Dir. by Ray Starita with Vocal Chorus, Columbia 1927 (UK)
NOTE: One of the music icons of the hot-dance era of the Roaring 20s performed by one of the best dance bands in Europe in that time. There were four American-Italian Starita brothers; the eldest Rudy Starita, born in Naples, then in America [Renato] Ray Starita, Al Starita and the youngest Julio. All of them got imported into British dance band scene of the 1920/30s. They were born in Chelsea, MA and in 1921 they formed a band in the Boston area. Two years later, Ray and Al traveled to UK where soon they were playing with the renowned dance orchestra the Savoy Orpheans. In 1925-1928 Al and Ray Starita recorded with Jack Hylton's Kit-Cat Band. In this time the prestigious Piccadilly Hotel put the floorshow staged by brother of the Dolly Sisters, called 'Dolly's Revels.' This show continued under the name of the 'Piccadilly Revels'. Jack Hylton, who was busy at that time with his own band, put 22 year old Ray in charge of the band which played for the Revels. The Revels Band soon renamed as The Piccadilly Revels Band became a sensation and a serious rival to the bands at other West End clubs. Its recordings struck a neat balance between the up-to-date ballroom dance of the day and 'advanced ' jazz influenced arrangements, which was very much enjoyed by demanding London audience. In 1928 Ray transformed his band into the Ray Starita And His Ambassadors Band while Al formed equally successful Piccadilly Players orchestra, and two remaining Starita brothers sailed from USA to join them. Wow all these people came back to life, if only for a brief 2.57 minutes. Love those times!!

:-) I'm glad to hear that :-)
Didn't know that this song goes back that far
Wonderful performance and a nicely restored recording. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I also liked the history lesson about the Starita brothers who were significant contributors to the 1920s music scene. Your GIFs are priceless.
Those Staritas were outstanting guys, indeed. However, their bandleading career was rather short. Ray Starita ended up in USA in 1932 as an amusement park owner. Al Starita died quite young in 1960 in Florida. What happened to the orthers? Rudy was still bandleading with a minor success in the 1930s, in the big band era. In later decades, their names disappear from the music scene.
Many good versions available of this famous song (even The Beatles recorded it...) but this one is outstanding! Great. As for the film fragments, they were stunning!
Hi Patrick! Ofcourse, during yours and mine looong history of activity in 78s promotion on You Tube, each of us had uploaded dozens times this or that version of "Ain't She Sweet" - on of the nicest dance hits the hot dance era. And I share your point of view - that each time something new is presented in this regard, we sigh with delight. :-) Thank you! :-)
@@240252 So welcome Grzegorz; a sheer delight it is for sure :-) Most appreciated.
I love this song, and the animated gifs were a treat! Thank you!
Hello and thanks :-)
It is extremely odd. For some reason, I walked into my kitchen and suddenly this song popped up in my head. This song came out decades before I was even born
I have no idea why this song popped in my head, but I did a search and finally found the song. I enjoyed every single second. Thank you
It is A song that is extremely well-known and even more versioned, that is found in the collective unconscious ruclips.net/video/v5k-OE0-fWs/видео.html
annroda2868 I don't know how old you are but I'm wondering if you remember it because there used to be a cartoon on TV back in the 70's I'm figuring that would play this song and others but there was a ball that would bounce under the words as the song played. I'm 57 years old. If you're around that age I might think it could've been that 🤷🏻♂️ What a time, things seemed to be so much simpler than today
Yep.
That's it!
Gorgeous girls sure were sweet - love your video with this great song.
That kind of framing of their faces by the edges of their haircut and their cloche hats was very beneficial to their beauty, indeed.
@@240252 Yes, I love the cutie with the cloche hat at 107 or 108. Adorable!
Merveilleux!
Beautyful
I like these girls the best they don't have tattoos all over them.

Very happy, peppy rendition of a wonderfully happy and peppy flapper anthem, so thank you VERY much!!! I have to ask, who is the absolutely gorgeous flapper at 1:04, do we have any idea? Quickly, I was wondering if I might presume to refer to yourself by something OTHER than "you"; I've seen other commentators address you as Gregor -- may I be so bold? BTW, my username is Louis Panico, but my real name is Jon, which you may use if you like, or not (up to you). I hope I have not been too familiar by asking this. :^D 🎺
Hello Jon, let's toast the friendship :-))) I'll be glad if you call me Grzegorz, Greg or Gregor. Polish spelling is not easy to write nor to pronounce: the blend or "r" and "z" is pronounced in POlish just as the French "G" for example "George" (Dzhordsh). According to it, Grzegorz" sounds in Polish "Dzhegodzh". Or, to some extent like it. Therefore, I recommend you just to say Gregor (like in German) or a simple English diminutive Greg. By the way: should I spell your name Jon like "Ian" - or "Dzhon", like John?
That's Josephine Baker in the bathtub.
George Harrison sounds a little different in this one.
Also, where do you get the stock footage?
Josephine baker !!!
Has anyone ever known anyone or has actually drunk champagne out of a lady's slipper? LOL
