Hello Grzegorz and everybody who "clicks" this wonderful channel - you know which vids are perfect for the lovely, cool, sunny spring day. Joan Crawford - notwithstanding her great talents (including her skills as a dancer which I strongly admire) - not even mentioning her tremendous silver screen presence - still - her bulging out eyes got on my nerves quite a bit. At any rate - love your effervescent art work while sending you and all of us tons of spring hugs from sunny, cool, breezy vicinity of New York City!
Oh sure, she is surely the queen of flappers (despite her somewhat bulging eyes) But her role in Our Dancing Daughters will always be the pattern for all Charleston Girls, just like the Prototype platinum bar of Sevres is for the metre :-)
1928, the year before my mother was born. I wonder if her mama was listening to this while pregnant. Fun to think she was and maybe dancing in the kitchen as she cooked. :)
this is one fine version....really enjoy it. it doesn't have jack teagarden's trombone, but it certainly sparkles and gets my toes a tappin...the photos are super. thank you.
Hi Ron, Whenever I listen to these magical earlier recordings of the classical hot dance Roaring Twenties orchestras like Garber, Ben Bernie, Leo Reisman etc., I can not believe that in 1929 they were able to change instantly their style into the banal sweet.
(Lyrics) From her head to feet, she gives your eyes a treat, she's a great great girl Got a heart so big it seems to dance a jig she's a great great girl I'd give up sleeping, even give up my meals To be beside her and hear the tap tap of her heels Took a long walk and had a long talk and then a great big kiss Things are going strong the bells will ding ding dong about a month from this Can't you hear my friends and family all congratulating me, "You're makin no mistake you've got a lucky break, shes a great great girl"
I love this great, great song (have the RWK and Hal Kemp versions) -- it's a "can't miss." Super treatment here by Garber -- and the girls rate the praise!
This is surely one of Garber's best from the time of his heyday. And so fortunately, he used to make his best recordings at Columbia during its best period of gold-black label Viva Tonals.
Great Great - Thank You

Excellent song and the ladies too!!!
It was a time when the fashion was still supposed to beautify the woman, not the opposite :-)
Very sophisticated arrangement!
Two years before I was born - Conceived in the Roaring Twenties!

Those Jan Garber Columbia Viva-Tonals are all treasures, this one included!
I totally second your opinion. They must have had pure geniuses employed then as sound enginneers in their recording studios!
