That’s true, but it’s still a neat extra option to have when trying to move a document from a MacBook to an iMac/iPad. iCloud Drive works well, but I’d say that this works better. Sometimes the files can be a little tricky to maneuver through the iCloud Drive. Also photos and automatic backups can oftentimes eat up a large portion of that iCloud memory, so this adds an extra layer of convenience.

Apple will do anything to make a walled garden and they have been doing it for years. And they are successful in doing so. Users are happy because it works for them.

My question is whether I can use Airplay and Universal Control at the same time. For example, I want to mirror my iPad onto the Mac Mini’s monitor using AirPlay and then use the mouse connected to the Mac Mini to control iPad. Will Universal Control let me do this?
Question, I saw a demo setup of a MacBook Pro connected to a Studio Display using a Thunderbolt cable and I was able to drag & drop files/windows from one to another… So that was Universal Control? Not Sidecar?
It’s useful if you have an iPad-specific app that is not available on the Mac. Plus even if the app exists in both OS, it’s better to utilize iPad hardware than to share the Mac’s resources.
I'm a Teleprompter for security reasons, I normally use two mac (master & backup) at the same time with the same program open. Can I use one of the mouse wheel to change the text scrolling speed on both machines at the same time?
can you help me with some information please? I don't understand why the apple pencil doesn't work on my ipad when I connect the macbook to the tablet by mirroring the screen
this feature popped up and surprised me when I was using blender and was pulling a value to the right then all of a sudden my mouse was on the ipad. Now I am using it to shoot instagram vids of myself tracking vocals and playing guitar. Set the ipad up in selfie video mode a bit far a way and just use the mouse and keyboard I cam controlling Mac with to start the video. For simple throw away videos it simplifies things a lot. So how do you use the ipad as a sidecar type device now?
I do not yet own a macbook but I do have an ipad, and I work for a software company that is PC exclusive (for the moment). I currently use logitech devices and Flow to spread my work across three PC devices (a desktop, a laptop and a surface tablet). It's always bothered me that Logitech seemingly won't release some sort of app for the ipad that would bring Flow to the device. I'm saving up for a macbook when the M2 chips are announced. I wonder...if I were to swap out Flow on one of the devices, say the Surface tablet, for the macbook, would I then be able to use Universal Control to further extend my keyboard and mouse to my ipad? So Left to right it might be: PC Desktop -> PC Laptop -> Macbook -> iPad. Just curious. If not then no big deal but if yes then that will give me even more options for my current desktop workflow while at the office.
For some reason there is major delay when I move my cursor to my iPad. I am using a mbp M1 and iPad pro 2020 and have a very good stable wifi connection with blue tooth off? How is everyone running this with barely any input lag? Thank you

I just never use keyboard and mouse/trackpad with my iPad, so that functionality isn't of much use to me. I do, however, use multiple Macs and a PC on a multi-monitor setup; so I use a Logitech Flow setup. It's great because there is no "master" device - unlike Synergy or Universal Control on one Mac, if I turn off *ANY* of the devices, my keyboard and mouse still work on the others. If I were a 100% Mac setup, or I didn't prefer to use an external keyboard, this would be great. Although... I do have a MacBook Pro that _isn't_ one of the three devices in my Logitech Flow setup that occasionally gets used "alongside" the others on my desk - I guess I can use Universal Control to use my Logitech keyboard and mouse on that by Universal Control'ing over from the Mac Mini...
Oh wow, I literally just typed up a comment here asking if this works. Have you tested it? Does it extend your keyboard and mouse beyond the 3 device limit?
@@WilliamSteppan I have tested it with an iPad just to see if it works, and it does. Flow is so irksome for me, I rely on it to work across three devices at my office (a PC desktop, PC laptop and a surface tablet) and it has no issues switching between laptop and tablet, but going from laptop to desktop there's usually a delay, and about half the time it doesn't "bring" the keyboard with it, and usually when it does that I then can't bring the mouse back over to the laptop.
I’d rather have sidecar updated so it allows multiple screens to extend your desktop, i.e two iPads or an iPad or another Mac or MacBook. I don’t see the benefit of universal control
