We did this interview a year ago and it was actually specified to the topic: raising half Thai kids in Thailand. And finally I didn't manage to make that video but when I watched her interview again, I thought it was too interesting to just waste it. That's why the information is quite limited. I would definitely be interested to talk more to Caron about other topics too.
There is always so much to learn from these videos Mayaan. Karon gave us a very interesting look at "both worlds" so to speak. Thank-you Mayaan, I always appreciate and enjoy these interviews. Much love to you, Mon & family.❤️🇨🇦
Great video. I have a half Thai daughter and am from the UK. I'm constantly wrestling with the choice of what to do about education for her. We are in north Thailand now but craving island life...its a difficult choice as a single mum. I work in an international school and in 2 years my kid has learned zero Thai and only how to be materialistic because of their behaviour management system of rewarding behaviour with gifts. It isn't working for us but I don't know what else to do in life for work and providing education...its so hard. I wish I was strong and brave like this lady!
Yeah we are all struggling with the same things. Also us down south.... we chose to send the kids to Thai school so to instill a little thainess in them before they grow up but the first two years were extremely difficult. I have struggled a lot if I was doing the right thing. All the international school kids seemed so happy while mine didn't want to go to school... I'm sure Caron was also struggling a lot in that time, but now she can look back and be happy with the result. We want to expose our kids to as much as possible of course; both cultures, both languages, but sometimes our choices and capacities are limited. Especially if you're a single western lady living in Thailand. You can't do it all...
Try living in the UK where illegal undocumented criminal gangs bring the same to our shores numerous upon numerous times a day, crime is rife, poverty is high, huge taxes, crap health and education, limited job opportunities, zero affordable housing, piss poor joke - you work out why
What a nice down to earth lady with a boho life style, she is lucky to be able to enjoy this kind of life and her children must be the coolest people to be around❤
Wow, I'm thrilled by this woman, her life story is extremely moving and remarkable❣️the painted portraits of her four children show that she has an artist's soul. I would really like to know more about her... Great story about Caren, an extraordinary woman, thank you very much Maayan for your interview with her❤🙏
Karen! I was on Koh Lanta in 1999 at the Sanctuary. You and your family are the best. I opened Chocolate Bar with you guys and worked in your restaurant. The best food!!! I miss you! And so great to see you here. Crazy. I’m still here in Thailand but now in the northeast. If you read these comments….hi this is Jordan. Lots of great memories there on beautiful Koh Lanta. Peace
Very lucky and privileged to count Caron as a friend. Been more than 20'years now and I can only agree what a wonderful, inspirational lady she is. Lovely kids, living their lives as they choose. Hope to see you soon Caron xx
What a gorgeous woman - so calm and warm. She exudes a beautiful light and what a joy to be so proud about her "job well done" as a mother raising her babies. It's all we really want to achieve in life (as mothers) happy, healthy connected children/adults. I would love for you to do like a part 2 perhaps about her life married to a Thai man and the dynamics of that union and ultimately the end of their marriage (just a thought) xx As always, thank you Mayan for your delightful content - it brings me calm ..
Wonderful invite to share this interview, Maayan ❣️. Through the video, thought provocative with regards to her kids & schooling/teachings. You let her in to describe her living/life - past marriage & current present day. Mostly a biography of her telling as an expat without much interrupt, Kudos! ✌️☮️
Awesome! She looks happily retired having passed motherhood w/ flying colors! Love her potraits & home deco! Cool & airy yet warm altogether! Very rustic & I'm especilly diggin the 3-toned windows by the bed!
Very great video and so interesting for me too , even Caron is a friend of mine. We never spoke about the old times , just about the present. So I really enjoyed to hear about the days without electricity and things like that on our beautiful island. 🏝️
@@SweetLifeLanta I actually think, she could fill even 2 videos with her story's. One about herself and the past and present or future....and one about the kinds. 😉
@@gabrieleuwira9731 totally agree, I think we could do a whole minidoc series about her and her life, haha... But I thought the interview was so good that I didn't want it to go to waste. That's why it's more about the kids than about Caron herself. But I totally agree that this video makes you want even more ❤
Being an Englishman in Thailand, i agree with most of what she says. There's always pros and cons, but its a very safe space to raise kids. One thing i would say is the police are bad in both countries.
I was adopted from Bangkok by Swedish parents when I was 6 weeks old, and I grew up in Sweden and my husband is English and our kids are luk kreungs as well. Love your house and the scenery
My kids only speak English, I should really teach them more Swedish. My oldest was born in Sweden, but upon moving to England she got bullied so he to choose to only speak English and I'm trying to learn Thai, which seems daunting
@@evadarkangel5399it’s not, it’s important to connect with that part of yourself otherwise your children may suffer from your disconnect. Caron is such an interesting woman !! ( and i also apreciate her canvas, portraing her kids 💖💖💖💖). Thanks Maayan !!! It would be great to get to know her adult children.

What an amazing woman! A pioneer in her own right. After being married to a Thai woman for almost 10 years with an 8 year old son living in Thailand now for for almost 7 years I feel she just demystified the educational system so succinctly for me, that I'm truly grateful for having watched this. Thanks Maayan for your continued efforts to tell people's stories. You're a star! And Karen, my hat goes off to you. You're an inspiration, truly authentic and no doubt, an incredible strong force in the world. Cheers!
Life is life no matter where you live nothing is easy or stress free it’s just that we have a way of coping and getting through it even if we lived in Timbuktu
Thanks for another great interview, Maayan. This woman sort of interviewed herself, though. These stories give us further insight into a farang's life in Thailand. I like the simplicity of her home. Reminds me of life in California in the 60's. So natural and cool. Unlike the capitalistic phony cr*p we've descended into. Good job..
What an incredible woman/mother. I have lived in Thailand (Bangkok) for 23 years. My Thai wife of 20 years see our son growing up the same way. At home in two cultures. That's just so amazing. And we will always stay in this wonderful country. That's thanks to the ordinary citizens, not the government.
Could you please make a video one day about what long term expats do in old age when they may not qualify to get a pension from their home country? It would be super helpful.
You mean people like me for example who lived abroad for so long so they don't have any income from their home countries? And then what they do in old age? Let's see if I can find someone like that. Or otherwise you can wait a few years until I have reached an old age. 🤣🤣🤣
The fact the her adult children still want to hang around her is a big accomplishment
I would love to hear more from this woman & it would be cool if one of her kids was there too.
When you go from west to east, you are an expat, and when you go from east to west, you are an immigrant
Go figure, western attitude towards third world.
Beautiful ‘kids’. There is an aura of calm peace about this lady ! Great interview ! Thank you 🙏❤️🙏
Oh how I would to hear more about her story. Please do a follow up. She sounds like she has more to say if there was time. ❤
I would like to see her and her children too. Their life and experiences can help not only expats but many other people who live in different culture.
I totally agree. I am wondering if she herself can speak thai. So fascinating
