Absolutely! I felt as if I was at a live seminar or therapeutic session where someone was going on a long description about their life experiences with a captive audience. It's almost like The Breakfast Club had no choice but to forgo their usual interview approach because of the power that she brought into that room.

I want to thank Mother Jenifer Lewis for helping me get help due to her previous interview. I've been diagnosed as bipolar and since getting help, I feel better. We must stop the mental health stigmas in the black community. As a mental health teacher, I teach my community about knowing the signs of mental illnesses and learning how to take the step forward to overcome it.

That statement I would have taken better care of myself if I knew I would live this long…. Mmm mmm. I had the same psyche as you. But when you take care of yourself what follows that. Someone may not have loved you when you are going down. But when you are doing the work to make yourself up…. How powerful is that and how attractive is that. When I did the work I met a man who saw the work. I looked in the mirror and saw a man who did the work. Gay men of the 90s and before didn’t have a reality of hope. It was a realization of shadows. And now we are able to live in the light. You can do it baby.
I love when she said, "that wasn't nothing but shit I was going through." WHEW! Just her saying that made ME realize I can have permission to CHANGE my mind about things AND admit when I just am having a hard time. Like it's ok to just have that moment. Love this woman!
