I've long been of the opinion that East Fife and Clyde are two clubs that were probably the most heavily affected by league reconstruction in the 1970s that led to the creation of the 10 team Premier League. That happened at the end of the 74/75 season and Clyde were one of the clubs relegated and have never played top flight football in Scotland since then. East Fife were relegated from the top League the previous season having been there for three years and finishing 9th in 72/73. Again they have never played top flight football since. In fact, out of all of the clubs in the top league over the course of seasons 73/74 and 74/75 only Clyde, East Fife and Arbroath have never played top flight football since. Would be really sad if a club of the historic stature of Clyde were relegated to the Lowland League.
It ruined a lot of clubs and the old first division was the most competitive league in Scotland as 8 - 10 teams fought to try and get back top flight football unfortunately some of them could not and found themselves at the bottom of the leagues ie Falkirk and Dunfermline. The sad thing is these were all our provincial clubs where young Scottish players started their careers and the loss of these clubs from top flight football was felt for years internationally.
So nice to see my local team! Can't wait to move back to the UK and go watch them, thank you Sam for showing the lower league teams, making me fall back in love with football 😊
I'll be honest, the most I know this club for is "East Fife 5: Forfar 4". I didn't realise they were such a historically successful club, so this video did it's job! Keep up the good work!
Best East Fife game I saw was when they knocked Hibs out of the cup in 1984. Course they had Gordon Marshall, Steve Kirk and Juke box Durie in the team so it wasn’t that surprising. It was probably the only time I’ve seen a lower league side completely outplay their higher league opponents. They deserved it that night.
I’m a Leyton Orient guy but have family roots in Methil and was introduced to The Fifers by my uncle Jackie as a bairn when at original and wonderful Bayview, next door to now closed hippie that sold incredible fritters. Always followed them from a distance. Last there couple of years back and was due to see them play Montrose - the opponents I first saw East Fife play. 2-1. Down with 12 minutes to go and won 4-2! All set but COVID reared and all footed cancelled. Hope to be back this season and hopefully get the train into Leven again!
Good to see a good support for both clubs. Well played the young lads on the drum bringing a good atmosphere to these smaller stadiums especially when it's easier to be drawn to supporting some of the bigger clubs
atmosphere could be a LOT better tbh, we used to have older lads a few years back bringing decent support but unfortunately they no longer attend games
Great video! Have spent a lot of time around East Fife because of my previous job working for the local paper there. They're a terrific club with great people behind the scenes.
That is extremely so fantastic from you and East Fife is one of my favourite footballing clubs ever that is a massive club to have won several titles in their history despite being in the lower league, good friend Sam!!!LONG LIVES RESPECTIVELY TO EAST FIFE,YOU AND THE RESPECTIVE PEOPLE IN THE VIDEO,GOOD FRIEND!!!🏋️♂️
I visited the old Bayview in 1991. It was falling to bits, but the place reeked of history. I was also lucky enough to see games at Falkirk, East Stirling, Hamilton, St Mirren, Dumbarton, Stirling Albion and Inverness Thistle before their grounds were lost to us. I'm not a fan of any stadium where fans are this exposed to the elements, particularly when they have to stay seated. You'd think people familiar with winters on the east coast of Scotland would have a bit more sense.
A great video Sam . But these clubs are the victims of the greed in Scottish football back in the 70’s. The introduction of the priemer league killed Scottish football as we older people remember. Up to then it was a better league system
I really appreciate all the hard work you put into these videos. I hope you have fun doing them too. It would be a dream come true for me to do what you do.
As you have almost concluded your tour of the SPFL, seeing how one of the traditionally more successful clubs adjust to modern circumstances. East Fife seems to be making a better go of it than some of the other teams you’ve covered, especially with the expansion of the community outreach and teams that will help feed into hopefully future promotion and better competition.
Back to the future from June 24 - New Bayview is about 250 metres from the new Leven station where services resume this year after a 55 year gap. Direct twice hourly services to Edinburgh Waverley.
the council better open up the old power station bridge and use it to build a pathway connecting the station to the ground, that would be amazing for away fans
That's good news, my girlfriend and I often have day trips to watch Scottish League games on the train from Crewe. The new station will make East Fife another one we can do.
I can't lie Ave been going to the east fife games for a while now but the ultras are very good but I wish the club can let us actually do something to make the atmosphere even better like pyro and flags and everything but all we can do is bang a drum I feel like if we were aloud a megaphone flags pyro and all that it will spur the team on to victory
the club needs to do what stirling, spartans, peterhead and dunfermline done and give the ultras their own section of the ground at the sea wall end, that’ll seriously improve the atmosphere up to another level and encourage all the older lads to come back with loud vocal support
@just_some_guy_innit yeah that's true cause am 14 and most of the boys are young like we need that and then get all the older boys to help the younger ones and then we will get a better atmosphere
Do go Nairn county someday for a match.☺️💕 Who are the two teams remaining for you to complete the forty two?😮 East Fife home shirts this season is unique i heard They have fan names in design.😅 i don’t have this :) Does anyone have their home shirt to confirm this more?😊 East fife have good history.💜 They could go down this season.🤷♀️ Edit update My answer is in the wee end 15:00
unfortunately here, its hard to attract support when it costs £18 to get in, which is the highest price in league 2, and the club has been struggling for the last 3-4 years 😢 hoping times are better soon once the fans can acquire a majority stake
Raith supporter. I miss the old bayview and find the new one a bit soulless. Having lived through that way a few years back I know East Fife suffer in the same way many of the lower league clubs do, 90% of the locals support Celtic/Rangers who they barely if ever see live, have East Fife as their ‘wee’ team but would rather watch watch the bigot brothers on TV on a weekend than get down to watch their local side. It’s sad as you would like to think, with the catchment area that East Fife could/should be playing in front of at least double the 500 odd that head along each game…
15:17 The 10 club premier was a disaster, and they took too long to admit it.The present setup couldnt be much worse. They just never learn. These small leagues are beyond stupidity. Clubs can't plan for the future. The Championship serves no purpose. The top league should be of 20 clubs. Some people come on and say 16 or 14 off the top of their head without thinking it t 15:17 hrough. The next league should be 22 or 24 clubs. Games would be competitive. Less frantic and more entertaining.
It is absolutely criminal that Kelty let Nathan Austin go, especially to a league 2 side, he scored 49 goals 34 games last season so he's obviously too good for that league anyway, he should've stayed at Kelty or atleast went to a bigger club at a higher level, maybe back to Falkirk or Inverness.
He was coming back to us because he loved us he started and he's ending his career with us he is a decent player he was top goal scorer when he was at us plus his family stay near
I hope you've enjoyed this No Rest For The Wicked campaign. If you have, please let me know what you thought! Thanks for the unrivalled support 🙌
Keep up the great work, your definitely One step beyond ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿⚽️
Very good Sam I was there at the game got a photo wi you
Always like your videos but “football’s sleeping giant” is a bit of a push?!? Football? As in the the world? 🤦🏻♂️
I hope Clyde don’t go down, but they have got a good manager so I think Clyde can turn that round
NO DOUBT YOUR CHOKING TO GET BACK TO SHITBROX SAM YOU MUST BE WAITING OUTSIDE FOR THEM LETTING YOU IN 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Without the smaller clubs in Scotland the big clubs would be nothing, great wee video!

Pleasure to meet you Sam at the game. I was the supporters bus driver for Clyde. Gutted that you never had a Steak pie though lol
Haha yeah they ran out! Good to chat mate and thanks for watching 🎬

Superb Sam as always - we need to get you a job with the SFA to promote Scottish Football and be involved in the next tv contracts pal

East fife stadium announcer is really funny and often worth going to the match just to hear.

Great few videos and great to see you work with the SPFL. Well deserved 👏
Love the work and effort you put in. True life and ardent, passionate football fans of smaller clubs
Sam finally got to a game at East Fife!
Great short series Sam! Cheers from Canada.
A great video Sam . But these clubs are the victims of the greed in Scottish football back in the 70’s. The introduction of the priemer league killed Scottish football as we older people remember. Up to then it was a better league system
Good lad for doing my home team...Mon the Fife!🎉

great club and amazing support in a football-daft part of the world!
Excellent as always Sam 👏👏👏

❤ great work again mate
Always liked the East Fife, when they came to Montrose, got a good crack with the Fifers.
I was a Fife fan in the 90's when they were better. Like the kids and the drum ❤
Bayview was a cracking ground. What a mistake it was to leave it.
Like watching your videos, wonder if you will be covering the Scotland vs Northern Ireland friendly in March?
Great video as always

Wondering if you'd be up to coming back to Blantyre Victoria at home to see the new Ultras at work.
Love the content keep it up lad❤️

Edit update
My answer is in the wee end
15:00
The poor wee drummer looked Knackered
i dont blame him, its bloody freezing in that corner 😂
Wait, this isn’t ibrox? Your favourite place
The highlight of the game was the Steak Bake 😂
East Fife part of the famous score East Fife 5 Forfar 4!!!!
The sleeping Giant in Germany is Munich 1860
Nuremburg maybe too?
Had a 1860 top in the 90s it was a belter
Nathan austin is wrong, rangers were not demoted
Prefer the lower league coverage in particular the west prem stuff. Good video but feel like higher leagues are saturated with videos
I wish smaller clubs received more support, that there weren't so many glory hunters. (I mean around the world, not just in Scotland.)
unfortunately here, its hard to attract support when it costs £18 to get in, which is the highest price in league 2, and the club has been struggling for the last 3-4 years 😢 hoping times are better soon once the fans can acquire a majority stake
@@just_some_guy_innit That's a good point about the ticket price. Honestly, in my opinion, ticket prices are way too high for all clubs at this level.
Will you be at Clyde v aberdeen?
U should come to Hamilton accies game

Not anymore getting beat by dunbar 😂
