For almost 20 years, iv been waiting for giftpia to get translated. There have been multiple times people have tried to mod the game for a proper translation but from what im told, it is incredibly hard to translate and mod the engine. It takes days to a week to even get a whole scene translated and for a text heavy game like that, no one had the time to fully dedicate to the project. I wish i could contribute to someones patron for a translation project. But giftpia in japan is kinda considered a spiritual successor to the old ps1 game called Moon. That one got translated a year ago and a lot of its mechanics and ideas got carried over to Giftpia. Skip was made of members of the old development of Moon so you can see a lot of soul in it. I did ask a member of the onion games translation team on twitter if they where ever willing to translate giftpia and he said their not aginst the idea if Nintendo allows it somehow. Maybe one day, we will finally be able to play this wonderful game.
SKIP was one of the few studios came out from a former studio called Love De Lic (who also made weird heartfelt games). One other other studios that came out made Chulip, Rule of Rose and Little King's Story. They are now known as Onion Games, who also made great heartfelt games, including the English translation for moon rpg remix, the game that partially inspired Undertale.
I'm still incredibly sad that Giftpia and Nintendo Puzzle Collection never got localized....both were among my most wanted Gamecube games. Similarly, it bugs me that the 3rd Chibi-Robo never got localized...it's one of my favorite Nintendo IPs and it feels wrong to only get 4/5 of the series released outside Japan...EDIT: almost forgot to mention, I LOVE Giftpia's soundtrack....Dig That Beat is a favorite song from it also, for years now I've really wanted to get & play the Japanese version of Donkey Konga 2 for 1 specific song....the theme to Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger! The Japanese version of the 1st game actually has the ending theme from Abaranger. As a Sentai & Kamen Rider fan, that's just epic.
Back off, I'm Donkey Kong Headstrong I'll take you on~~ NAVEEEEEEEED! What a treat! Wasn't expecting such a fun video today. I've really come to enjoy learning about games we missed out on in the west. Great stuff, dude!
What an excellent video, I sure hope you'll make more of them! My favourite Japanese exclusives so far have been Kururin Squash and Mr. Driller Drill Land; I always just assumed there was no way for me to ever play Giftpia, so thanks for making me aware of the translation guide, will be shopping for the game pretty soon! Btw, since you're enjoying Kururin Squash so much, please make sure to check out the Japanese exclusive second GBA game, Kururin Paradise - no luck for us Europeans this time, either. I think it might be the pinnacle of the series in terms of level design, although the Gamecube one takes the lead in pure gameplay thanks to the insanely fun attack moves.
For some reason I remember getting the trophy for the Kururin ship in Smash Melee very vividly, always wondered what kind of game it came from. You also reminded me I own Donkey Kong Jungle Beat with the bongos and I still haven't played it... should probably get around to that... Thanks for the dope vidya!
That was a really good video to wake up to, I'd never heard of Giftpia before and I found that super interesting. Somehow I never saw that puzzle collection either, and well done on creating such a well produced video
God, I love this video so much. Your dedication to documenting and sharing these obscure releases makes me so happy. This company’s games means so much to me, and every single time I get to watch these sorts of videos, I get so sucked into the topics covered. Even though each game got covered for a few minutes, it felt like each one was discussed for hours. Thank you for this video, and thank you for being the one to convince me to take the plunge on Giftpia and play an imported copy on my modded Wii (now I just have to wait until I have enough money to buy a copy since they’re so expensive now).
Thanks so much for watching! I wish I could dedicate more time to making videos because I'd love to cover more obscure stuff but I'm glad you enjoyed this!
Its really interesting how Giftpia felt so much like a spiritual successor to Moon, more then any other game by Love-De-Lic's successor. The licensed indie tracks, the coming of age story, even the gameplay.
What a great selection of Japanese classics! Japanese games are sort of my favorite and I’m glad there’s a bunch of good ones! BUT WHY DID DONKEY KONGA HAVE RIPOFF ALL STAR????
Looking as fresh as ever King, welcome back and thanks for the video! I seriously didn't even known a Donkey Konga 3 existed and Nintendo Puzzle Collection sounds like my JAM!
Kururin is such a great series. Great to see the US get the GBA game on switch online. Think there's another GBA titles that never came over too even here to Europe.
I'm curious how one would go about playing some of these games. I thought the Gamecube was a region locked system, though I suppose I could be wrong. (I suppose unless we're talking about the obvious method of course)
I honestly should have mentioned that in the video so that's my oversight. Obviously you could get a Japanese GameCube but I modded my Wii U so I could play GameCube .iso's on it. You can also soft-mod a Wii to bypass region locking there. You can also do something similar on a GC itself. So yeah there are a few ways without the obvious... unethical method.
@@NaveedMohebbi ok that makes sense. Personally I don't feel too bad about that. Nintendo isn't actually selling these products, and haven't even provided the opportunity to sell them. Can't really support the official release. Thanks for the recommendations, I might have to check them out.
I believe Nintendo Puzzle Collection actually got localized and released in Europe, as well. Also, it is a CRIME we never got DreamMix TV Fighters in the West. I wanna beat up Megatron as Tyson from Beyblade, damnit!
@@NaveedMohebbi it’s all good. @@internets6501 Thanks for understanding 🙏. I've got more ideas than ever but just don't put enough time into it. Appreciate you watching and sticking around!
@@lordrenzo No patch but there is a translation guide on the site kirameki which I mentioned in the video. Doesn't give a FULL translation but it translates all the story bits and you can follow along with that.
I have no idea why I said a "Zelda quiz thing" at the end of this video. It's just a regular quiz/trivia game. My b.
Not getting Giftpia was a huge kick in the teeth just because of how much I've loved so many of Skips other games like Chibi-Robo and Snowpack Park.
First. (don’t scroll down they’re lying)

Bro Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is legitimately amazing. For a platformer to work that well... with bongos... is incredible.
I beat kururin squash during the beginning of quarantine. Oh my god. Very fun. Very hard. The use of analogue triggers was great
Awesome to see a new video from you Naveed! All these games look interesting, specially Kururin Squash!

glad you're still making videos
Nice video, if I hadn't seen the number of views I would've guessed it had few hundred thousands instead.

Amazing video! Love your editing and content, man
As strange and unique as Kururin was, there was one more recent game inspired by it: Roundabout.
Somebody mentioned that to me privately and I had never heard of it! Definitely will have to check it out now though!
WOW... I need Giftpia :/ Nintendo is like Disney now, nothing off the beaten path can be released.
I'm so glad I found your channel! You're making the exact content I love and strive to make myself. Keep it up :)
Thanks!! I'll try! Gonna give your channel a look too!
