Is the holes for the valve screws and the holes for the trim ring different or the same, i spent all day yesterday trying to put in a shower valve when i got to the trim i tried 4 different sets of holes and nothing held it on i feel like i have done something wrong, i finally got frustrated and went to bed with no water. Thank you in advance
I’d recheck the directions, the trim and the valve to make sure they are properly aligned. The trim ring should line up over the holes. The screws are very long - and they are VERY challenging to align because they are so hidden. You kinda have to do it blind - just by feel. If you put the screw in the trim ring holes just the tiniest bit unaligned , the end of the screw will just miss the screw hole and be in midair catching nothing. Patience patience! Hope that helps.
I have a Delta 14 Multichoice tub/shower. I tried looking up a trim with shower handle for mine but I don't see any for 14 multichoice. Would you be able to point me in the right direction?
I am having a hard time with putting in the screws (holes are further back than yours @3:29 of this video) and having the plate fit with Delta being leveled on the bottom of the plate. Any suggestions?
Hey ms…, Do they reach it? If not you can go the big box store - they have sizing tool there - then just get a screw w/ more length. May take a couple tries - try to get a ball park measurement 1st. If they reach - I do remember that trying to line it up blind was difficult. I put one screw in with the plate swung to the side so I could see to line it up. The second screw was totally blind so you have put on your patience hat and go slow. It took multiple tries. It will happen. Thx for watching!
Removing a corroded handle is nearly impossible, you loosen the Allen screw to remove the handle but it will more than likely be fused to the valve cartridge. You may end up needing to replace the cartridge. The only thing I can think of preventing this is stuffing plumbers dope into the handle cavity where the set screw goes to keep the water/mineral deposits out.
I noticed that when you were all done with installing the on/off shower plate that you did not caulk around the plate. Is it necessary to caulk around it if it isn't flush to the wall? I had a new shower installed (by a plumber) with new Moen shower head and handle and the plate isn't flush to the wall. I'm afraid water will leak into the wall if it isn't sealed. Thanking you in advance. Sue
It should be flush. Maybe installed wrong. Maybe wall isn’t right. I think caulking the gap at least the top half - from 8 o’clock to 4 o’clock would help. Hope that helps.
Hey henara.., There is a (brass) ring that screws on and holds the cartridge in. If that needs to be removed to attach trim kit, then water MUST be turned off. So long as the brass ring stays screwed on, you should be good to go. Might be better safe than sorry. Thx for watching!
Hey em…, IF you are removing the cartridge -YES! But the trim kit we put on does not involve the cartridge. There is a large brass ring that holds the cartridge in. That is what you pay attention to. Do not disturb that, and you are good to go. Hope that helps. Thx for watching.
I want to replace the Delta shower trim that came with my house (2003 build) with a Delta unit like the one in the video, but don't want to deal with also replacing the valve, is there any way of knowing in advance if this is possible, and just swap the old trim with the new one?
You can get a trim kit for everything. Maybe you can drill out the set screw on the handle??? Maybe try CLR - line and scale remover… Maybe PBPOWER BLASTER? Hope you find a way!
Hey David…, No. So long as you DO NOT remove the ring I am touching at 0:04 second mark in the video. That holds the shower cartridge in. So long as your cartridge is in and that ring is on, you are good to go ( at least for delta ). The trim kit is basically decoration. Hope your project goes well! Thx for watching!
I would double check the position of all the parts. If all is right, I suppose the manufacturer could have change it. Check the full range of the handle movement -from off to on to make sure everything is functioning as expected. Thx for watching!
It's so funny that of all the videos that I looked at tonight not one plumber used any sort of anti seize on the threaded parts. It seems that they like busting their ARSS.

Out of ALL THE DARN VIDEOS I had to watch, only this one helped me do the job… thanks!
Glad it helped! And thx for watching!
Thank you so much!! My mom and I were loosing our minds trying to do this with paper instructions!
I’m glad it helped. Sometimes those instructions leave out the important parts.
What size Allen screw is this?
What size is the allen key for the handle screw?
I put some clear silicone around the collar near the wall. It seems like water could definitely get in there easily.
Thx for watching!

So do you have to use a Delta shower ate if it's a delta mixer valve?

Plumber’s grease
glad you made this video, the printed instructions aren't very good in my opinion
Hey Rays,

Well done buddy
Thanks 👍
Thanks its help a lot
Great. Thx for watching!
How do you switch between bath and shower mode?
Usually that is controlled at the tub spot - typically a handle of pull down the end of the spout.
Hope that helps. Thx for watching!
Thanks, is there anywhere to find upgraded trim kits compatible with my classic one knob shower?
Some big box stores have that. Or just buy whole set-up and use the trim. Little more expensive but … if you like the look better….
Good tutorial! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Does the water have to be turned off before installing it.
Hey henara..,
There is a (brass) ring that screws on and holds the cartridge in. If that needs to be removed to attach trim kit, then water MUST be turned off. So long as the brass ring stays screwed on, you should be good to go. Might be better safe than sorry.

You should be fine just replacing the trim - check and see if the old trim / new trim slides over the ring that holds the valve in the valve body.
@@Housebarons Thanks I'll look into it.
THANK YOU !!!!

A longer Allen wrench would make it easier 😊
my shower handle is corroded on and won't come off. can I get a trim kit to take off the whole thing?
You can get a trim kit for everything. Maybe you can drill out the set screw on the handle???

What do you do if the handle won’t go on in the 3 o’clock position? Mine goes on at like the 1 o’clock position 😡
