So the title 'Like a Weed Naturally as a Matter of Course' refers to Testament being like weeds on a garden. They are naturally occurring, but are unwanted by people, yet they have to right to exist like every other living thing.
Easily my favorite song in the game, and I’m definitely not at all biased by the fact that Testament is my main and favorite character Testament is agender, which is why the song uses he she and they pronouns interchangeably. The harsh differences between the “guttural” sections and the “wholesome” sections are (I think, my interpretation) meant to represent the two different versions of Testament we know. Early in the series, Testament was a kind and gentle soul who had been turned into a Gear (basically an android) against their will and controlled by the big bad of the series, forced to do a lot of very bad things including killing their own adoptive father. Once freed from that control, Testament hated… pretty much everyone. They hated the people who had turned them into a Gear, the Big Bad that had forced them to do everything, they hated everyone who hadn’t been able to stop what was happening, they hated themself for being unable to prevent it, etc. They were in a very bad place mentally, which is what I think the harsher parts of the song represent: the old Testament that hates everyone including themself and is disillusioned with life. Luckily they met pretty much the most unequivocally good person in all of Guilty Gear, Dizzy, who really helped change their world view and get them to allow all those old wounds to heal. They stepped out of the story for many years as they “went for a stroll,” traveling the world to find themself and hopefully return in a healthier state of mind. In Strive, they finally did so, and now they’re mostly back to being the kind, thoughtful, empathetic person they were before everything went wrong. This is what I think the happier-sounding portions represent: the new Testament, who has a lot more hope for the world and generally thinks better of people than they did before. With this context, a lot of the meaning of the individual lyrics becomes clearer, but I’ve already written way too much about something probably no one cares about lol. Sorry, Testament is just my favorite fictional character out there so I really like to talk about them.
As a person who'd like to buy and play Strive just for Testament and Happy Chaos, I really appreciate your comment! I probably wont be able to play Chaos (skill issue + heard its hard on your hands to play him), so I'm just happy to learn more about Testament and deepen my appreciation for them. @@NeIIy As a testament main in-game, I can promise you they won't break your hands! All their inputs are comfortable quarter-circle motions (no Z-inputs or half-circles, which are the awkward ones most characters have) and, while you can certainly sauce pretty hard with their moveset, you can also kinda flowchart your game pretty easily when you're still trying to get used to them. Very solid first character choice, but still very fun to keep playing for hundreds of hours like I have 👍

The franchise has a 3 seasona nime with multiple movies and also a very popular rhythm game. Because that’s how it works, it’s never just a simple “I was born assigned male but I identify female,” there’s almost always a really rough and confusing transition period. She struggles for a long time with letting outside influences (namely, her village’s superstitions and her parents’ feelings) have an impact on her gender identity, until eventually, after a lot of thinking and experimenting and getting help and advice from caring role models (Ky and Goldlewis in her Strive arcade mode), she finally finds something that feels comfortable. I like her story a lot as far as transition stories go.
