    The lyrics "I'm not here to fit in this world, I just want to make a difference" is also a meta reference to the fact that A.B.A. was one of the small handful of characters not created by series creator, Diasuke Ishiwatari, and her place in canon was questionable until the character Asuka referenced her in Strive.
    (Her last appearance was almost 20 years ago, in Guilty Gear Judgement from 2006)

    • @kaialone
      @kaialone 8 месяцев назад +32

      I mean it's also a reference to the fact that in-universe she's an artificial human who spent the first 10 years of her existence isolated and terrified of the outside world, knowing she was "incomplete" and different from humans, but she hides her insecurity by acting condescending and such
      Also her place was not debated in canon cause she appeared in one of the audio dramas, and has been in GGW since Xrd ✌

      @The_WIll_OF_D99 8 месяцев назад +16

    This characters history is really wild to me. She was one of two characters who debuted in a spin off called Guilty Gear Isuka, the other one being Leopaldon, a boss character. But ABA ended up jumping over to the main series with one if the many updated versions of Guilty Gear XX. Allegedly she's one of the only characters not designed by Daisuke. Toshimichi Mori (creator of BlazBlue) claims he designed her as well as Order Sol. He also voiced Paracelsus (the key axe) in the old games. From there tho she just completely skipped Xrd, and that coupled with how isolated her story is (Zappa, Bridget, Testament, Robo Ky, Anji, all characters who also skipped Xrd, at least had ties to the main story, and Zappa Robo Ky and Anji still appeared in the story mode of Revelator), made her feel almost non-canon, until finally, Asuka mentioned her in his arcade mode when he was added to Strive. ABA became a really popular character in recent years due to her nicheness and many people wanted her back, as unlikely as she is. Arcsys holds polls gauging interest for which characters are requested to return, and on the last time I believe she ended up being 1st or 2nd in popularity, however apparently her development in Strive began long before that poll, so they just happened to get really lucky with their picking of her.

    @gatr2897 8 месяцев назад +42

    I have a theory about this song, but first I'll fill you on on ABAs story (also her name is pronounced like the band, which she is a reference to. So Ahbah)
    This characters story is very self contained, in fact it was debatable if she was canon until like a year ago when she was sort of name dropped in Asukas arcade mode. She's a humunculus. She was created by an alchemist named Paracelsus in a lab called Flask/Frasco (localization discrepancy, they can't decide which it is in English). When she was born though the lab was empty. Unbeknown to her, he had been taken by the PWAB to do lord knows what. She ended up spending 10 years using the lab as her home, and she collected keys as a hobby, saying it symbolized her freedom. One day in the lab she discovered something Paracelsus had stowed away. A sentient, demonic, key-like battle axe called Flament Nagel, which was infamous during the crusades. It bonds with its user essentially overwhelming them with a crazy berserker rage that always ends up killing them. She for some reason fell in LOVE with him, taking him as her husband (without any input from him) and gave him a new name, Paracelsus, after her creator. For awhile she seeked a way to make him a human body (again, without consulting him, he's content being an axe), but otherwise they spent a long time travelling together learning about eachother off screen (this character has had a HUGE hiatus from the series, nowhere to be found in Xrd), and by Strive Paracelsus is more content being with her, and the getting him a human body thing seems to have gone away. Interestingly, ABAs biology as a humunculus gives her a resistance to the damaging effects of Paracelsus's infliction, so they're a good pairing. In Strive her Arcade mode addresses ABAs jealous tendencies. She's very possessive over Paracelsus, and in Strive this is represented by a black, goopy form that he takes whenever she goes into jealous rage, her unique install power up that makes her terrifying to fight. Testament points it out to them and ABA says she's known but she was just so afraid of losing him, but she acknowledged how she influences him and that it needs to stop. She believes the only fix is to break up but Paracelsus convinces her they should stay together and work on themselves, after a series of battles with Elphelt. The final scene of the arcade mode is extremely sweet, Paracelsus takes on a new form, turning blue, her favorite color, proving to her they're capable of change even if she is afraid she can't.
    Ok for my theory. "I'm not here to fit in this world, I just want to make a difference." is a line that could be squinted at in order to fit some aspects of their story, but to me this feels like set up for something, much like how Baikens theme foreshadowed her giving up on revenge, since her theme came out before the story mode where she did that. That lyric almost sounds like something that would be in a Venom/Robo Ky theme. Venom (made an attempt to) sacrifice himself to kill Bedman in order to atone for everything the assasins guild did, and Robo Ky joined him in that fight and sacrificed his whole body except for his head to protect some bystanders who in the past had bullied him. It just makes me wonder if they have plans for her. Hopefully neither of them die after all they've been thru tho that would be a serious tragedy, but some plot relevance after all these years would be wild. Plot relevance doesn't matter in Guilty Gear because they've each got their own detailed fleshed out plots but yeah.

    I never was familiar with original A.B.A's themes, which people apparently been crazy about, but two things that struck me incredibly familiar when hearing this song for the first time is jazzy pattern at 5:18, which is probably something that goes way back, because i know i heard it many times before, as well as vocal patterns in this segment, which took me a while, i later realized that it sounds a lot like Pink Floyd's "The Wall". Music references never stop.

    8:07 Funnily enough had you asked this question on the previous released song I'd have said I look forward to the music more without hesitation. ABA broke the mold though, since she's the first DLC character I genuinely enjoy playing. Even though I was anticipating the release of some of the previous DLC characters none of them stuck with me after trying them out, meanwhile I didn't really care for ABA before release and now I'm having an absolute blast playing her. To top it off the next DLC was heavily hinted at to be Slayer, which is my most anticipated character since the beginning, so now I can safely say I look forward to both the music and the characters greatly.

      Actually based on the previous DLC's, next DLC is a new character like Asuka.
      Season one had 5 DLC with goldlewis being a DLC intended for the base game. Two XRD characters JackO and Baiken, one XX character Testament, and one Original Happy Chaos
      Season 2 has 2 Xrd characters, Sin Kiske and Bedman, one XX character Bridget, and one Original Asuka.
      Season 3 is shaping up with 2 XRD, Johnny and Elphelt, one XX, A.B.A, so the last DLC may be an original.
      Season 4 then starts with Slayer, and XRD character. I rest my case.

    I'm. Not. Here. To.
    Fit. In. This. World.
    I'm. Just. Here. To.
    Make. A. Diff - rence.
    Then this repeats as a sort of chancing.
    This reminds of The Becoming by my fav artist, NiN
    It. Won't. Give. Up.
    It. Wants. Me. Dead.
    God - damn. This. Noise.
    In - side. My. Head.
    which chants in the same way at the end of the song.

    I love the characters from GG and their stories and designs. Even if I dont always gel with a character mechanically (Sin) I still love seeing them again, it's like reuniting with a childhood friend you haven't seen in so long and am only vaguely aware of how they ended up doing. The music is definitely something to look forward to and is always a banger. It's a package deal, I can't separate one from the other.
    If you want some prior GG recommends, Worthless As The Sun Above Clouds and Diva from Overture, all versions of Holy Orders (the first from GG1, the second one from GGX and GGXX, Robo-Ky's Holy Orders?, and the orchestral Holy Orders III from Overture) are all amazing, and In Slave's Glory are personal favorites.
