I loved this highlight of Raymond Scott's works and history. For quite a while I've been trying to pin down the musical influence of Ren and stimpy. It was one of my early musical influences that I have never forgotten. Raymond Scott was a real pioneer. I had no idea. Thank you for this!
That was really interesting Mazzy. I never heard of Raymond Scott before. I remember the Hamm's Beer advertisements on tv - they had a cool cartoon bear. I'm a big fan of Modern Harmonic. I've gotten several of their records. Thanks for the introduction to Scott. ~ Randy
Big Raymond Scott fan, especially since his lab was apparently in my hometown as a kid. I remember paying a LOT of that Manhattan Research cd set when it came out. THE NAME OF THE GAME IS LIGHTWORKS!
> his lab was apparently in my hometown as a kid. his appeal is strangely regional. but so is musical eclecticism generally. i caught the bug in NY myself.
Nice quirky stuff Mazzy. I recently showed that Ohm box in a video- excellent overview. Thanks for taking us on this trip. I am feeling perfectly soothed now.
Hey Mazzy. Very serendipitous! I just watched a documentary about 'electronic' music, etc and there was a huge segment on Raymond Scott. Thanks for this. Cheers.
You played "The Toy Trumpet" three times and even announced "Powerhouse" and then played "Toy Trumpet" again. ARRGGH! I luv ya Mazzy, but sometimes.....
Well. I immediately thought of Wendy Carlos, and I suppose I was in the ballpark! Wild stuff, man! Some of this stuff touches on Zappa or Phillip Glass. Not sure it’s something I want to explore that much further, but then again, friggin’ fascinating! While I was watching this video, Mazzy, it hit me that your delivery style is sometimes like Jean Shepherd! Ever hear his old WOR radio shows from the 60’s and 70’s? YES, it’s the guy who wrote and produced A Christmas Story - a brilliant story teller! I grew up listening to his stuff, I THINK you’d love it! Peace & love! Oh, yeah, Carl Stalling! Bugs Bunny!! The best “incidental” music!! Totally Zappa!! Love that shit!
Maz, if you end up (or start out) down south in Georgetown there's a great bar called Slim's Last Chance Chili Shack. They've got a great vintage Hamm's bear--one of the big ones-- in there. The beer's cold and the chili is great. The veneer and finish on your JBLs is nicer than I'd expect--remind me, are they the new edition or vintage? They look great--always wanted a pair.
This is the kind of content that I love! Big fan of Raymond Scott, but learned a ton from this video. You are the jesus christ of the vinyl community. Now turn me some water into some wine. I'm not picky, I'm good for some Mad Dog.
Prolly cause I'm getting old now but I assumed everyone knew of Raymond Scott. Although as a musician who has studied all kinds of music from all eras and genres I might be the exception. I have always loved powerhouse.
The Carl Stalling Project CDs were new to me. I'll have to seek those out. I agree with your comment about the Reckless Nights and Turkish Twilights CD as being a good starting point.
Dude! Thank you for posting this! Wow! So much info on my favorite musician. Thank you. I'm a huge fan of Scott's. I'm a flimmaker in Knoxville, and I just started writing a pseudo biopic of Raymond Scott. I'd love for you to contact me, so we can talk.

I love him he makes good music
ren and stimpy played a lot of his music! always loved it as a kid. really added that whimsical feeling
Don Byron's "Bug Music"('96) is a wonderful exploration into the music of Raymond Scott, John Kirby and early Ellington. Fun stuff. Jolly good, Mazzy.
"...in the land of sky blue water!" 🍺

Lovely video/collection, Mazzy.

Look up War Dance for the Wooden Injun
Ummm you played toy trumpet instead of powerhouse
He was always my secret, now the worlds in on it
Well damn 🍭🤷🏻♂️
Thank you for making this video, it's good - but you misidentify "The Toy Trumpet" as "Powerhouse."
Yeah I figured that out later. 🤷🏻♂️🌸
Mr Scott has been a favorite of mine for quite some time. Nice that you have taken the time to spread the word on him.

Would "Reckless nights" be available on the vinyl format? 🎵🎹📀
Wow. Very Educational. Thank you.
I've been a fan of Raymond Scott for 30+ years. Great to see I'm not alone.
Absolutely ✌🏼
