Thanks, Steve! I appeciate your comments. I'm still working on my flugelhorn sound (mouthpieces, leadpipes, etc.). Change a little there and a whole lot happens on the bell end of the instrument! It's a fun instrument to play and I've only recently rediscovered it. Thanks again and thanks for listening!!! Dave
Hi Michael, Thanks for the kind words! Glad you liked it! It's just the regular R-122 I have, into a PreSonus pre with an old, vintage Telefunken 12AX7. It gives it a little added warmth.
Thanks for listening. Stress? Maybe something was lost in translating your comment. That is as absolutely 'stress free' as I can, or want, to play, while still maintaining a loose, jazz sound and still having good intonation.
Hi Regan! Thank you for your service to our country!!!! Thanks for your kind words. Sure, I'll send you my lead sheets. Thanks again and take care, Dave
Hi Steve! Thanks so much! Despite not being able to control the slides on this horn when I play, it really does seem to have a superior sound when compared to my Kanstul. Best wishes for the new year! I'm looking forward to hearing you!
Hey Dave... I love the sound... so mello!! Makes me want to trade in my cornet , trumpet, banjo and guitar to get a flug.... I could listen to this all day Steve
Thank you so much! That's about the highest compliment a musician can receive. I do appreciate it and wish you the very best with your musical endeavors! Dave
Thank you, Skyler, for your very kind words. I truly appreciate them! I may be recording with this particular horn again soon. Stay tuned! Take care and thanks for listening, Dave
Hi Beth! Thank you SO MUCH for your kind words! That was very kind! Isn't playing the trumpet fun? I still enjoy it as much as I did when I first started many years ago! That's great you are in both concert band and marching band! Too cool! Best wishes on your musical pursuits! Take care, Dave
Hey, Dave! Man, that tone is awesome! I'm working on getting my corners and embouchure working right before I get back to playing tunes. Thanks for the magic, Frank
Hey, thanks man, I appreciate it! Glad you liked it!! Hah, I just watched your triple high C video with wife in the background. That's pretty danged cool! You've got some seriously powerful chops, man! I don't know what this guy means about too much stress. I play low C I look like this! LOL! Maybe he's listening with his eyes. I dunno. Anyway, thanks for the kind words. Dave
I just subbed today after watching your blurred lines cover and your playing is THE. MOST. AMAZING. SOUND. EVER!!!! (And this is coming from a tuba player XD)
Hi Dave, Just came across this one. Super tone and a great job. I am thinking about jumping into a flug... and you have got me envious.. What does the Mouthpiece feellike? Bigger than trumprt???? Thanks
+sehightower Hi Steve. Thanks for your kind words!!! The mouthpiece feels the same as a trumpet. It is generally deeper and often with more of a "V" shape. But you can usually find one with a rim that is similar to your trumpet. Some of them, like the deeper V cup of the Wick, take a little more effort to get the sound going. It's a little different approach from the trumpet but basically the same. I'd personally suggest staying away from flugelhorn mouthpieces that are too shallow because you'll end up sounding like a trumpet on those pieces. I tend to play Curry, Wick and Laskey flugelhorn mouthpieces.
+DavesTrumpet Thanks for the quick reply Dave. And for the info... I play a dw 4 on my cornet and the deep cup does make all the difference. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you and family
what mics and pre's did you use? i've been looking for the right mics and pre's to record my trumpet, love your sound, not much vids on this topic i've noticed
Thanks Dionte! Man, I didn't know it at the time, but for some reason, this particular track really has taken off and been popular. Thank you for listening!
Thanks for the kind words! Sure, I have my transcription I can send you. (Flugelhorn and trumpet read the same notes, etc.). Anyway, send me a message through youtube with your email and I'll send you a PDF scan. Take care and thanks for watching, Dave
Hey, thanks! Glad you liked it. I'm playing a 1977 Olds Clark Terry model flugelhorn with a Laskey 65FL mouthpiece. Take care and thanks for listening!
I'm a comeback player from 20 years off and have been working on this one for a few days. For those of you asking for the note, just google when I was your man trumpet sheet music. Voila
Hi Madelyne, Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed my playing! I think the best way to get 'good' is just keep practicing the right things. It takes a while, but you'll save time in the long run if you practice the right things like long tones, scales, etudes, flexibility studies, things like this. Work on your sound. Really LISTEN to what you're playing. Try not to compare yourself with others too much, only to yourself so you know you're making progress. That's the key: making progress. Playing better today than you were a week ago. Good luck and thanks again for listening! Dave
DavesTrumpet thank you so much for the advice if there is anymore you could spare that would be GREAT and thanks again and you are a wonderful flugelhorn player. I will practice and use your wonderful advice I will use it so I can get better at playing my trumpet you should hear me play I really good when o am up to it but anyways my band teacher says that I am do very well and I am making great progress and another thing how can I better at doing the hard scales because I cannot hit the high notes in the scale can u help me out?

Rosendo Garcia Thanks, Rosendo! Sure I can send you my transcription. Just send me a message with your email address and I'll send you a pdf scan. Thanks for listening! Dave
Hi Carina! You are too kind! I'm glad you liked my cover version of this song! No, I'm no god, but I've been playing a while. Just keep practicing and keep encouraged with your music! Best wishes, David
Ammar Nehlawi Hello! It would be impossible to give all the notes by their names but it's an easy tune to learn by ear. Yes, there are F-sharps, Es, Bs, Gs, etc.
+Preston Branham Hey, that's cool! The flugelhorn is a lot of fun. It's mellow and has its own sound. Let me know if you do a cover. I can't remember where I got the backing track but you can probably find one here on youtube. Good luck with your trumpet playing!
Hi Ashley, please send me a message through youtube with your email address and I'll send you the music. I have the backing track somewhere too on a hard drive. Thanks, Dave. Oh, and yes I'm on Facebook. If you go to my main channel here, there is a link to my Facebook. Thanks for listening!!!!
Yes, I have the transcription I wrote out. If you're interested in a scan, just send me a message with your email so I can send it. Thanks for listening. Dave
;-) thanks for your comment! It takes a while before phrasing and dynamics become automatic, but even then you sometimes have to work out ahead of time how you're going to do a certain thing. Just keep practicing and working on being better each day and be sure to make time for listening to good music and performers you admire.
Hello! I don't quite understand what you mean. Would you like the sheet music? If you are asking about the sheet music, please check the description. I have links to two different PDF versions of the music. Enjoy!!! Hopefully that is what you are asking about, if not, just let me know. :-)
